I am 49 now, and had one of these when it was new back in the day. I have been into RC cars and boats since I was a kid and still am. I moved away from home 25 years ago and was home to visit my parents a couple weeks ago and went into my moms basement (or as I call it, the time capsule because she has saved everything from my childhood) and found this boat with all the components in the original box preserved as I left it over 30 years ago. It's practically brand new still. I contemplated taking it back home and upgrading all of the electronics and making it brushless. So I am so excited to see what you guys do with it. I also found my clod buster that I built back then, along with a Tamara Bigwig and an RC submarine that I used to have! Please build this one up so I can see the potential!.
Nice restoration! It's like resto-modding an old car.. no need to make it a speed runner. Just get it working right and appreciate it for what it is 👍 Good stuff guys!
When I was a kid it as the ABC Super Hawaiin that was a dream. I remember putting it on layaway while cutting lawns. I still have till this day with a modified Huey brushed Twin Drive system. It was like a rocket ship back then at 35mph stock 45mph with twin motors. I love these vintage videos. The Villian was at the top of my list, too. Thanks for another banger, boys!
I saved up grass cutting money for a year to buy one of these in 1990. It was an early kit-build version before Ready-to-runs were made. I could'nt afford an ESC, so I wired series packs through an on/off microswitch. It was ballistic!
My first boat was a Nikko Sea Hawk. I loved that thing. Now I have a Pro Boat Blackjack 24 and love it. Later on down the road I want a deep v to carve turns.
pretty cool getting that toy from your childhood you always wanted I finally got the big trak I actually had one but it disappeared on dads work bench to fix then I got my original 80s Clod Buster running led me down this rabbit hole of newer rcs and my channel good video fun to watch cant wait to see the upgrades
Awsome video guys. This is what the hobby should be all about. Tapping into your inner child and having fun. So many people take it way too seriously and take things too far. Im currently in the middle of one of my childhood dreams myself. The wife got me a black edtion Tamiya Lunchbox as an early Father's day gift and we're building it together. Keep up the awsome videos guys. 👊 Also wondered where you guys are from. Your videos look alot like Indiana where im at....lol
HOLY POOP. I just threw mine out. An old timer gave it to me years ago and i never did anything with it. The hobby shop didn't seem interested in rehabing it and I held on to it for years bouncing it from storage bin to garage and back to storage bin. It's time was up!
I just picked up one a few days ago for $50 in original box and everything - still had all the trim and tools new in bag - only the downside was the plastic was very yellow. I used Retro-brite to make it white again.
Absolutely love that boat, got one years ago in a trade, I swapped out the motors for dual speed Gem 12 turn motors and that thing ripped! Would get maybe 5 minutes of run time out of some old 5,000mah NiMH packs 🤣
When I was a kid I always wanted a Tamiya CC01 Pajero. They were so cheap then but I still couldn't afford one. I finally bought one a couple of years ago brand new in box kit. I paid way too much for it but I'm so glad I did.
I have an xray m18 and a HPI micro RS4 that I used to race years ago (I believe a but over 12 years ago.) found them maybe 2 years ago, with old electronics and motors. Would love to get a simple brushless system in them and run them at my local hobby shop that I race at. We race mini-z’s, and 1/10th scale touring indoor.
Got my age 11 on recently with a return of the actual Taiyo 4x4 Racing Pick Up (4wd Tyco Bandit) that I sold to a friend many years ago. My second ever RC the first being the Tyco Jet Hopper which I will be getting one of soon!
They did that on the Villian EX. "The Villain EX is equipped with a new propeller design. These new surface-piercing propellers are engineered to operate with speed and efficiency using full-size boat technology. The propellers are counter-rotating to prevent torque roll and eliminate the need for drag-inducing trim tabs. The dual, steerable outdrives direct the propeller's thrust for ultra-precise steering response. The trim angle of the outdrives can be adjusted to change how high the bow rides in the water." Edit: Looking at pics, it looks like the I4 did have counter-rotating blades too.
@@10thScaleGarage Cool! I couldn/t tell from the video when you swapped wires if that was what was happening, nice looking boat,be good to see what you do with it,I love your boat and snowboat vids 🙂
I owned one of the villain ex’s for a long time, it’s a great boat for what it is but if you’re going to run it much faster than its intended it’s not at all worth the time or money, the Spartan and many other rc boats that come factory with a brushless (and are 25-30 years newer) are much more worth the time. Doesn’t mean you can’t make a video and try but in the end it’s not at all worth trying to go faster, the hull is not at all capable of that.
There’s nothing on the GT3 that says it’s bound. Bush and hold the bind button while turning it on. Put the receiver in bind mode and power it on….. revive bind plug, restart tx/rx and boom.

Loved my nitro villian. Electric backup was genius
Dude! I want a nitro BAD!

Thank you so much.
This is awesome guys! Glad to see your inner child is alive and well. Can't wait to see more.🤙
Thank you brother.

Such a great boat. Love the steering too! 👍

I had one when I was a kid. Great memories
"Im on a boat!" LOL felt appropriate! Love this video and I agree. I'm buying the things I couldn't have as a kid lol!

YESS. I lusted after the lunchbox as a kid.
I had a buddy build one with a dual brushless VXL set up.
It was entirely uncontrollably.
Torque rolled very badly.
Stick with the 550 brushed cans. 💯
Nice video 😊😊😊

Heck yeah! I support this decision. That comes as a kit, right??

Just picked one of these up my self used of for 100$ I upgraded the remote to the exact same one you did! With the zees 2s

I've still got my old aquacraft Rio EP that works great 👍
A pair of 4600 kv short course truck motors (550) should make it hustle :)
When using super glue , sometimes using baking soda can help the glue keep things together.
Thanks! I think this trailer is done though. Not sure if there’s enough super glue and baking soda in the world to fix that thing….
What was your measurements for the trailer
Put your receiver in a balloon, works great for water proofing
Shouldn't one prop go clockwise and one go anticlockwise to cancel torque steer and improve steering?
They did that on the Villian EX.

Yes. The props spin in opposite directions. Port spins anti clockwise, starboard spins clockwise.

You have the first version, the Villain IV, and i have the newer version, Villain EX. Cool boats just not really meant to go fast unfortunately.
Yeah, I’m learning that. Haha.

I’ve got a Spartan. And a M41.
And a blast…. Great boats.
@@10thScaleGarage yup, nothing against the villains, they’re just not built for brushless, but for videos and views why not lol
How do u bind the gt3c with the redcat receiver I've been trying and it don't seem to work

I had one of these until last month. I traded it for a Tamiya grasshopper at a swap meet.
Oh nice! I always wanted the Tamiya Frog.
Wait..... You still beLIEve in Nasa??
My uncle had 1 when I was a kid
It seemed so fast .they had some on eBay the other day
We’ll make this one fast!
Congrats!
Some hydrogen peroxide/sunlight should brighten the hull.
yeah, this works well
Thanks for the tip!
this boat will rip with brushless
