My 5200 controller joysticks were always failing that's why I eventually dumped it because I couldn't get replacements at the time. Pacman was the main offender for ruining the controllers because I needed to keep making sharp turns and I suppose I used too much force, so the joystick gimbals would fail. So many fun hours spent playing on that console.
@@g3user1usa my issue with the controllers were the side fire buttons.....sometimes start and pause. I never had a stick go out though lol. I got really good at tear down and rebuilding them.
I had 7 games the one I didn't see here was super breakout. My mom and sister use to love to play that game. Thanks for sharing this..it brings back memories lol
Frogger ( and Jungle hunt lack the music. Pretty surprising given the POKEY sound chip the 5200 has. Frogger is one of those games that is basically unplayable on the 5200. They have that goofy press the button to make up for the bad joystick, but then you have to press the button constantly.
Man! Cannot remeber one game. The plot is: a magician wearing Gendalf like hat is doing his best, collecting kind of herbs and potions, and other stuff like that... Thought it's Druid game, but nay. Broke my brain tryin to recollect it in my mind. No success. Have any ideas?))) Ps. It seems that he had a staff in his hand. If it could help to identify
Always thought Galaxian was a poor conversion, definitely not the same ship count or type as the arcade. Atari 5200 was definitely capable of perfect Arcade conversion for this game. IMHO of course.
use a Jaguar controller with an adaptor ! my choices : Astrochase,Blueprint,Congo Bongo,Decathlon,Frogger,Gremlins,Gyruss,Hero,Jungle Hunt,Kangaroo,Mario Bros (hack),Meteorites,Moon Patrol (hack),Ms.Pac-man,Pac-man ARCADE,Pengo,Pole Position,Q*Bert,RS Baseball,RS Tennis,Robotron,Star Raiders,Star Trek,Zaxxon32K & Zone Rangers. Homebrews : Archon,Frisky Tom, Jr.Pac-man,Pooyan,Satan's Hollow & Sinistar. Fort Apocalypse & Scramble are too hard ?
With a WICO controller, the Atari 5200 stands with the best of of pre-Nintendo era. Lots of great picks here for the top 25, but I second the notion that Galaxian was HORRIBLE on the Atari 400/800/XL/XE and 5200. In the arcade, the aliens didn’t move horizontally on screen. Lazy programming! The Colecovision version (by Atarisoft!) was far-superior. And not because the Colecovision was a better machine. The same applies to Star Trek. The Colecovision version was better, but the Atari could have easily handled a better-programmed game. Berzerk is my favorite 5200 game. Satan’s Hollow (a finished prototype that has been long-available for the 400/800 and 5200) belongs on this list, as does 5200 Space Invaders (beats the pants off the 400/800 version). 5200 Missile Command was a HUGE let-down. There should have been three bases on the bottom of the screen and a third button on the superb 5200 trackball! The Atari ST version at least gave us two bases which were activated by the mouse buttons. A missed opportunity for the 5200.
Unfortunately the 5200 controllers are the weakest part of the console, which is a shame because the rest of the system is really good. In fact the controllers that I cleaned and got working since I got it are already having issues again.
You might want to try gluing a little piece of aluminium foil on the back of the carbon dots. I have heard people having success with that method. Also, try gently rubbing the little carbon pads across a regular sheet of paper as if it were an eraser (but very lightly).. I have had a lot of success with this method.
Kangaroo, galaxian, football, pole position, missle command, Pac-Man, super breakout and Popeye were some that I had as a kid....I got pretty far in the Pac-Man mini movies, and I got so far in galaxian the ships were disappearing and teleporting around the screen super fast. I alsoade it pretty far on Kangaroo....Sony m9nkeys in screen.
Pretty good lineup. I had - and still have Pac-Man, defender, football, galaxian, dig dug, centipede, and joust. I live in Canada and the only time I could get games were on rare trips to the US with my parents!
Montezuma's revenge is great too and Wizard of Wor is a must play.
Yo!
Wizard of War was outstanding!
You ever play Rescue on Fractalus? Another awesome game.
I loved my 5200!!! Controllers didnt hold up well though. Good list!
I never had the problem with the controllers. In fact, the only thing that went out on mine was the power supply

Moon Patrol, Montezuma’s Revenge and Bounty Bob are games that are in my top 5 Atari 5200 games.
It is interesting to see how these 25 game cartridges look and play on the Atari 5200. Sometimes I just don't want the added comments.
My dad worked for Atari in the 80s. We had many many games. Worst thing about the 5200 was it didn’t have a self centering joystick.

wow, I miss my 5200
Old school. I remember this when I was 6 yrs old.
Para mí El Mejor juego del 5200 . bueno es difícil porque hubieron varios pero para mí Es Moon Patrol .y no está aquí
😍😍🥺🥺 Beautiful memories

Unbelievable
Wizard of Wor and Space Dungeon were 2 of the best. Space Dungeon is probably the game I played the most (and I owned a bunch of the top games).

I agree 100%
galaxian has always sucked to me after Galaga was released
great content keep it up
Thanks!

These are all top games for sure, but your life will be changed if you get retrogameboyz custom 5200 joystick
That was the best version of Pac-Man ever

5200 is somewhat similar to the 400/800 series.
If you don't have an aftermarket digital stick, pitfall is just an unplayable mess.

If the 5200 wasn't a faliure, huh? All it needed was a better controller, and 2600 compatibility. And then everyone would want it.
Most of the 5200's games were way better versions of 2600 games.
top 25? what about Donkey Kong, Mr Dos Castle, Gyruss, Galaxian, Millipede, Space Invaders, the list goes on.......
The time for NES & Master System!
mario bros is the best for me ☺
One of the best systems ever made and so overlooked.
Who doesn’t shoot the lasers in Defender? This video needs redone... lol :-)

Beef Drop looks an awful lot like BurgerTime LOL
A total rip off ya mean.
@@Cinemaphile7783 thats exactly what i meant
It's basically a port.
@@SupremeNerd 🤡 it's a 2004 home-brew made by a guy from the Atari forums.
5200 was good but broke easy. Especially the controllers.
Beef Drop ??? Burger Time ? Wth
Space Dungeon.
Fucking amazing colection hahaha 🍺😎🤙🤙🤙 What a memories!!! T_T
Ok
del peor al mejor
Esto es de family no de atari
But pitfall was Atari 2600 not 5200
