My brother and i spent many evenings enjoying this awesome console from 1982-1984. Most of my classmates had the 2600 but our mom got us a 5200 instead. ❤️👍 I pretty much owned all the best titles for this system, Moon Patrol and Pole Position were my favorites.
Just hearing the music and sound effects from the games sent me into a time warp back to the 80’s! Thank you for bringing back those good memories of late night battles on the weekends with cousins and friends! ✊🏾👑🖤
I remember when my mom got this for xmas from my dad. Anyone remember Space Dungeon where it was 2 players one controlled the shooting the other the movement, otherwise it came with a plastic tray to slide both controllers into if you wanted to play solo?
It's interesting how this console had some games with voice overs...........back in 1982! Normally I think of the first 4 generations of consoles as the "silent era". No talking, just text. It's kind of like how movies started out in the silent period.
Intellivision had Intellivoice but they cheated. They couldn't fit the speech on the cartridge ROM chips themselves (and too costly) so the speech for the 1st 4 talking games they released was ON the Intellivoice expansion unit itself! This solved the space problem and covered the cost of the extra ROM chips cause you had to buy that too.
Regarding my last post about the Intellivision, I just looked it up and they released Intellivoice in the same year!! 1982! Must have been some competition going on for talking games. Atari wins though because you didn't need extra hardware....
Remember when Atari brought out Pong and everyone went wild over it? Games have gotten a little better since them...and now they are in colour too! The trade off is people getting dumber, but TV was working on that already. Not a gamer myself but when F-1 Pole Position came out I got hooked real bad, got cramped up after about 35-40 laps. There was no help, I had to kick it myself, now I'm clean and keep myself occupied with Cubase...but I don't write music for video games.
There was something really impressive about the star field in star raiders

Gyrus was so impressive! One of the few games that I can honestly say has NO terrible ports!
Arcade and NES versions are the best!

@14:00 Check out Moon Patrol with triple parallax scrolling!
Robotron 2084 Yes, that one was my favorite at the time.
Beef Drop reminds me a lot of Burgertime lol
yeah probably because Beef Drop is a HOMEBREW of BurgerTime

The game was to see how many times you could roll the score over on asteroids.
Cool, thanks again.

What about SNES?

It’s was so much better then crappy 2600
It had a lot potential to be the next great console, but alas the controllers were a wreck and other issues
I agree
@@patsfan4life there were no other issues with the system itself
Interesting to see some games that did not get released like battlezone and final legacy. Baseball was my favorite
And jungle hunt
It's a testament to the short lived nature of the Atari 5200, that some of these games aren't finished

I love the5200, I have 2 one is my original and one modded an painted up
How were you able to play these games? The AVGN couldn't, and if the AVGN can't play a game, it sucks for us fans.
Meteorites is a better Asteroids than Asteroids!
Meteorites might be a copy of asteroids. I don't want to be too controversial, just throwing it out there.

This gaming console is a piece of shit...
By my count there are only 3 or 4 Atari 5200 exclusive games, so its probably best to stay clear from this flawed console.
Richard Harris you could emulate it on Atariage
and when you say that, do you mean made ONLY for the 5200? and are you talking about only HOMEBREWS?
