2 years ago, I made a video where I tried these Martin SP Phosphor Bronze strings essentially for the first time. In that video I opened up a multi pack of 25 sets that I acquired as a Christmas gift from my lovely wife, and said I'd let all of you know where it took me. Well, I've burned through about 18 sets of those strings now and I have to say I think I've found a string that to me is a perfect compromise.
It's a standard phosphor bronze type, and no it's not coated, so it's nothing fancy, but with that I think it's a very nice standard string, and probably the best I've played in terms of longevity given the makeup of the strings, and how little they cost when you buy in bulk.
If you, like me are an active gigging musician, and make your living at this you'll know that saving money where you can is important. You'll also know how important tone is, and how important reliability is. After 2 years using Martin SPs' on all my acoustics, I've only broken 1 of these strings, and have found that I can get 3/4 months out of a set no problem with active gigging and a lot of weekly playing.
