I have read an article how Igor Moiseyev got his inspirations for this ballet. He went to discos and night clubs, because he was curious how young people with no dancing skills at all would move. To modern music, with no melodies, just a beat. I think it was his intention to make a bit fun if it! It’s like an ironical way to portrait „mating dances“!
The Moiseyevs are stunning, even in rehearsal; they're better in rehearsals than some troupes are in actual performance. A great treasure, Russia's gift to the world.

Their stamina 👏👏👏 Even the background dancers are so energetic!! I can’t imagine myself trying to do that (well I can but it wouldn’t be pretty 😂 ) I couldn’t tell they were getting tired even after that much dancing. Amazing 👍❤️

I've loved the Moiseyev Ballet Company since I saw them live in Los Angeles about 1958 (I was 12). Never forgot them and now with youtube I'm fortunate enough to see so many of their performances. What I particularly like about the rehearsal videos is that you get to see the PEOPLE who are performing. With all the makeup, wigs and costumes you see only characters onstage. I love their "Night On Bald Mountain" ballet and here you get to see WHO is performing. Thank you for providing these.
I understand now why people from all over the world train in Russia. It is so much more than just mastering the movement and all. It is so entertaining and keeps you wanting to see the next part coming up.

Балет Моисеева может быть самое выдающееся явление мировой хореографии. Совершенно неповторимое соединение универсальности, высочайшей техники и мастерства, универсальности и художественной зрелости. Спетакли его есть настоящие шедевры мирового танцевального искусства
Где-то в 80-х годах была на их концерте. Он состоял из двух частей. Первая часть была посвящена танго, а во второй части они показывали одноактный балет "Ночь на лысой горе", композитора Майбороды. Зрелище феерическое, особенно в той части, где веселится нечистая сила. На сцене почти нет света и они по ней скачут и танцуют в совершенно сумасшедшем темпе. У ведьм, длинные сиреневые волосы, разлитающие в разные стороны, а у ведьмаков в руках жезлы. Зрелище жутковатое и Завораживающее. Эмоции после концерта просто зашкаливали. Артистам долго аплодировали, не хотели отпускать. Уж сколько лет прошло, но не возможно забыть этот праздник красоты, гармонии, подаренный нам, замечательным ансамблем и его выдающимся руководителем.
This just blows my mind away. The dancers are so prefect at what they are doing, because of the long hard working hours. They all have the strength and capacity to move so energetically. God bless each and every one of those dancers.
The "Russian Dervish" dance in Riverdance 1995 was choreographed by Igor Moiseyev himself. So it's fun to spot choreographic elements that he transplanted from the regular repertoire for that show in Dublin. For instance, from his "Night on Bald Mountain," he (apparently) took the hip rotations preformed here at 3:57 (I call this element "the helicopter": thanks, Vera Lochmatova!) and the back flips at 4:51 and 4:54 (thanks, "Metelnitza") to use in the fabulous solo by the Blue Girl in Riverdance. Other distinctive elements appear to have come from the "Moldavian Dances" and from "At the Ice Rink." As for "Night on Bald Mountain" itself, I used to think that different dancers were used for the "village festival" first part, and for the "satanic bacchanal" second part. I was astonished when I realized that many, if not most, of them are the same dancers. One cannot help but admire their endurance and versatility. You can see in this rehearsal video that they are working hard after a long day of working hard, and (mostly) they are still smiling. Just wow!
Yes! I loved that particular dance back then and after all these years recognized it in this performance. Sweet dance, looks fun and I know it's so much hard work that goes in to making it appear so. Excellent!

Я конечно очень люблю балет Моисеева,но ансамбль Вирского то-же классно танцуют.

Где-то в 80-х годах была на их концерте. Он состоял из двух частей. Первая часть была посвящена танго, а во второй части они показывали одноактный балет "Ночь на лысой горе", композитора Майбороды. Зрелище феерическое, особенно в той части, где веселится нечистая сила. На сцене почти нет света и они по ней скачут и танцуют в совершенно сумасшедшем темпе. У ведьм, длинные сиреневые волосы, разлитающие в разные стороны, а у ведьмаков в руках жезлы. Зрелище жутковатое и Завораживающее. Эмоции после концерта просто зашкаливали. Артистам долго аплодировали, не хотели отпускать. Уж сколько лет прошло, но не возможно забыть этот праздник красоты, гармонии, подаренный нам, замечательным ансамблем и его выдающимся руководителем.

This just blows my mind away. The dancers are so prefect at what they are doing, because of the long hard working hours. They all have the strength and capacity to move so energetically. God bless each and every one of those dancers.

The "Russian Dervish" dance in Riverdance 1995 was choreographed by Igor Moiseyev himself. So it's fun to spot choreographic elements that he transplanted from the regular repertoire for that show in Dublin. For instance, from his "Night on Bald Mountain," he (apparently) took the hip rotations preformed here at 3:57 (I call this element "the helicopter": thanks, Vera Lochmatova!) and the back flips at 4:51 and 4:54 (thanks, "Metelnitza") to use in the fabulous solo by the Blue Girl in Riverdance. Other distinctive elements appear to have come from the "Moldavian Dances" and from "At the Ice Rink." As for "Night on Bald Mountain" itself, I used to think that different dancers were used for the "village festival" first part, and for the "satanic bacchanal" second part. I was astonished when I realized that many, if not most, of them are the same dancers. One cannot help but admire their endurance and versatility. You can see in this rehearsal video that they are working hard after a long day of working hard, and (mostly) they are still smiling. Just wow!
Yes! I loved that particular dance back then and after all these years recognized it in this performance. Sweet dance, looks fun and I know it's so much hard work that goes in to making it appear so. Excellent!
