    It’s odd that nobody ever came forward in the area to state that she had reservations to stay somewhere. Where was she headed & who was she headed too?? It doesn’t appear she had booked a hotel or cabin anywhere under her name so I find this odd. Nobody ever came forward to say they were suppose to meet her & she never showed up, again this is stranger. Where was she headed??? $200 isn’t a lot of money when you consider.... food, gas & shelter.

    It seems like a lost opportunity. He was willing to spend more time on it but Tim and Lance hadn't given him enough information. I don't know why they think it was a good idea to give him limited information. Do FBI profilers not know how to sift through relevant and irrelevant, likely and unlikely scenarios? Jim Clemente finished up by asking for more information. A thorough written summary might help.

    I wish the camera was face to face instead of looking down on top of their heads..I have always felt that Maura got into a car with the wrong person which sadly, ended up causing her to loose her life at just 21 years old..

      Yes on both of your statements. Who hung the camera like that ?! Ridiculous idea!
      Someone came across Maura at the wrong place, wrong time and took advantage of her vulnerability. She got into a vehicle and was gone.
      I think something happened before the accidents. Something at West Point. It caused her to steal and that set the wheels in motion for everything that happened after. I think she may have been raped and was acting out, bulimia, drinking, stealing, cheating could all be signs of trauma.

    I love this Jim Clemente interview. I've ALWAYS felt that Maura met with foul play from a man who offered to give her a ride/help her. I think if she had ran into the woods, her body surely would have been found by now. It may be rural, but it's NOT like the vast wilderness of the Pacific Northwest! It was a crime of opportunity--YES! Also, there just isn't any basis for saying that Maura was a sociopath/psychopath! If anything, a psychopath happened upon Maura when her defenses were down. She had been drinking, and didn't want to get in trouble. I also agree that there is no way that she has gone on to create a whole new life. She had some stressors, sure! Enough for a week-end away--not to leave everything and everyone she loved behind to start over. People who do that are hiding from mob hit men, or hiding from the law after committing a major crime or something. And they are almost always caught. You all have talked about what great shape Maura was in. Yes, she was. But a thin 120 lbs. woman is no match for a big/strong man, unless she's had some kind of extraordinary Special Forces training or something like that.

    Understanding the Psychology of Maura is key to knowing what happened. Based on everything I've ever heard about the case, there are only two possible explanation: She was picked up or abducted by a local and was murdered/disposed of -or- She knew the cops were coming and decided to make her way in the forest to hide out and decide what to do next. If that was the case, she likely died in the elements but where is the body?

  • @beccab7901
    @beccab7901 5 лет назад +31

    Another thing I was thinking about... I’m a nurse and would have been in nursing school at the same time as Maura. I know for me personally, nursing school was the most stressful time of my life. I was used to making A’s on tests and quickly became happy with B’s and C’s on nursing exams. I ended up in the hospital twice with dehydration and panic attacks (something I never experienced prior). I also worked 2 jobs and would sleep in my car in the hospital parking lot for a couple hours before clinicals started. I honestly felt like I was going crazy at times due to sleep deprivation and stress to retain so much information in a very short period of time.. I could see anyone getting overwhelmed... and add the other stresses she was experiencing on top of it all! Just wish we knew what happened after that point.

    Still didn’t approach the suicide option though. For me, one of the most interesting things Jim said was schizophrenia can often begin to show itself in people in their early 20’s and, without proper diagnosis, it can be very difficult for someone to understand why their mental state is failing. Pair that information with what we learned from the Supervisor the other week, where Maura presents disassociating behaviour. I am very split on the abduction/suicide theories, but I keep going back to Bradyn Fuksa and how similar his story is to Maura’s. Yes, Bradyn was eventually found, but only by pure luck, 4 years later, 70 miles from where he abandoned his car.

The dogs they brought out in the beginning were using gloves she had never worn to track her scent and if they hadn’t made that mistake, I bet she would have been found right away. She probably entered the woods down the street away from her car so they wouldn’t see her footprints.

    Excellent episode. Lots of great points and such to take away from this. I feel that the person who took Maura, was someone she may have seen before? Her family camped in the area, so this person could have been watching Maura for some time. Its hard to say. Although I still stand behind my theory that something began at West Point, and it ended at UMass. In all honesty, we do not have concrete evidence that it was Maura that went to NH that night. Given that JS our rogue wannabe PI released a statement in the past day or so, we will know hopefully soon, if they have located Maura. I have a strong hunch that JS is doing what he does best, looking for attention in anyway he can get it. One of the many things that bothers me with him. Not to mention he has said how many times he is taking a break from this case only to show back up within an hour. It would be great if you could get Kurtis or Julie to come on and clear some things up in the beginning of the year. Especially the relationship between JS and the Murray family. Glad you Had Clemente on, lots of great info and lots of new things to think about now.

    My theory.....she was drinking and driving. Crashed her car. Didn't want to get a DUI. Wandered off in the cold to hide from cops. Succumbed to the elements. Almost did the same myself. Saw a car coming after I ran out of gas and literally hung off what I thought was a short bridge. Went to get my car the next day and that bridge was 75 feet high. I was literally hanging, hands only visible from the road on the drop side. If I wasn't only 145 lbs I'd never have been able to pull myself back up.

    Please don’t shoot me if I’m incorrect BUT Ifollow this case closely but no one seems to talk/speculate very much about WHERE she was headed. A student can live quite a while on $280 if they were going to stay at someone’s house. If she just needed pocket money for food she could have coasted. I was in school at the same time and we all tried to spend $5 a day on food (using grocery stores and group meals) so we would have more money left for cocktails🤓 Maybe her sister discovered something between Maura and her husband and that’s why Maura was hysterically crying on the phone. Then she could have got the alcohol and was driving to her sister to sort it out. Her nerves must have been bad because most of us girls that I iknew would never drink and drive....it was such a big campaign back then in schools. I think she maybe had to have just a drink or maybe 2 because her nerves would have been so frazzled and she she needed to reduce her anxiety. Then maybe the creepy husband killed her and put her in the carpet in his truck or so the story went.... Wherever she was headed would probably give a huge piece of the puzzle.

    He raised some very good questions, because that area is small. There isn't hardly anyone in that area, the neighbors were older and it's always been interesting that their stories are all different of their accounts of Maura's wreck then seeing her and those stories changing everytime. There is snow everywhere and the cops claimed they looked for her yet no footprint's? That has always been a big debatable because if she went on foot like so many have said there would have been foot prints it's not possible or logical that she didn't leave foot prints snd i don't know why that hasn't been brought up more. You guys are bad about rabbit holes, all mody channels hVe done os zero in on the time. Those minutes of her disappearance when no one really knows if the cops have ever been truthful everyone's account of time is different therefore the time isn't right so you can't go on that. Then John Smith he is stuck on certain law enforcement cover ups. Her body has never been found, her stuff has never been found, no one has csme forward. I think it's time people start excepting that something bad happened to her and she isn't going to ne found unless someone comes forward. She isn't on those woods she would have been found by now.

    Some essential facts and circumstances were omitted from your discussion with Jim Clemente: 1) Maura had appeared in court on credit card fraud and was required to stay out of trouble for six months or face a legal penalty that could lead to her expulsion from the UMass nursing program. Then she crashed her father's car after drinking. 2) Among the contents of her car were sleeping pills. According to a police log shown on the Oxygen show there were six boxes of sleeping pills. 3) What about Petrit Vasi?

      I did not know of the sleeping pills. I would of liked him to also know about the smashed wind screen. And maybe touched into the police theory that she _might_ be suicidal. Maybe also mentioned the display of distress she showed after learning about her sister to her colleagues.
      Great idea to bring a profiler on the podcast though. Wish he had more facts and details so he could get a better objective profile. Maybe he will be on again.
      There were a lot of things going on for sure in her life before the crash incident.

    • @Cb11Cb
      @Cb11Cb 5 лет назад +5

      @@chrisclausen5447 But that is what he is saying, those things don't matter. She did not have the skill set to disappear or go off the grid without detection nor did she have the skill set to commit suicide while ensuring her body remained permanently undetected, especially if she was inebriated. She was inebriated because she was stressed and sad, yes, but he is saying that it does not indicate anything except that she was drinking to relieve her feelings. It does not indicate a covert operation that she planned in advance to commit suicide. Even if it did, her wrecked car threw a big wrench in her plan. The main role or importance of her state of mind is that her guard was down because she was drinking and she was more susceptible to foul play, i.e. accepting help or a ride from a stranger.

    Random, Planned, Followed... "The walls have ears"!! In New Hampshire all ears, are on the police scanner, located in almost every home. as it is in many rural areas . Keeping an ear open for news, for the well being of your loved ones, or for the opportunity to take advantage of a young woman.
    Seeing her walk by, and offering her refuge, from the LE, who everyone now knows were called and on their way. They would not need to know she was in the car mishap, only that she was an only female, walking on the road, near there.... Maybe they did not even know it was a female. Seeing or hearing someone on the road, the thought that that person may have been in that car mishap, would be a reasonable thought. Finding out that this person was a female may have been a surprise and a bonus. Maura might have taken the offer for cover, and hoped to use the phone to call for help.
    This all went wrong and Maura would have been quite capable of defending herself. Then she was in trouble and sadly murdered, whether accidentally or on purpose.

    My question is , is Maura a trusting person ? She didn't even except help from the Bus driver....why would she get in a car with a complete stranger? Maybe a man with kids in the car? Or a friend ? Maybe people her age ? ( I am just speculating) it doesn't make sense she would go with just anyone if she didn't take a helping hand from the friendly busdriver.

Something as simple and effective as a gun pointed will produce uncommon compliance. This case is insane! Even the local police angle is messed up. I have never heard of a more confounding mystery. IMO, Maura did not accept Butch’s help
      bc he was the “friendly bus driver”.
      Butch knew Maura wrecked and mentioned contacting LE.
      Maura “begged” Butch not to contact LE but I am sure she knew he was going to.
      Maura wanted to distance herself from her vehicle and the wreck.
      I think she was booking it away from the crash sight since she knew Butch was going to call the cops.
      I believe Maura had been drinking and realized she was in big trouble.
      I think she was desperate and got into a car with someone much closer to her age.

    Just a really minor point -- A student, especially in those days, could make 200 bucks go really far. Speaking from experience, if she were careful she could last a month on it, which would give her enough time to start a new job and start getting a paycheck. Unfortunately, I don't believe that's what happened but just wanted to give some perspective. To a creative kid, $200 would likely have seemed like enough to go on, she wouldn't need a fortune.

    Wasn't there a towel/rag stuffed into her tail pipe that the police found?? If so this was someone who knew her car would eventually stop running. If she stopped at a bar prior to hitting the snow bank then it is possible someone at the bar did this. Could have been 2 or 3 guys following her. There was info about 3 guys who worked at a sawmill up the road aways from where she crashed. I'm not so sure about the bus driver. Also wasn't some liquor missing from her car?? Compared to what she purchased prior?? People do not just vanish into thin air. This case needs to be looked at again with fresh eyes. Maybe these guys were just going to "party" with her in their minds, & then things got out of control & they decided to get rid of her??!!

    • @DoctorColonelGonzo
      @DoctorColonelGonzo 4 года назад

      That theory has been explored. Most people believe the explanation her father Fred gave, essentially his advice was if the exhaust pipe ever smoked, stick a rag up there to help prevent it and maybe that Maura had this thought in her head in a last ditch attempt to start the car. Also, the oxygen series used a similar car under similar conditions and the rag blew out almost instantly. The 3 guys allegedly worked at Loon Mountain which is roughly 35-40 mins away and have never been identified. We'd all love to know who they are.
      I think this guy is spot on and best explains why her body has never been found.

    I don’t think there’s any indication of schizophrenia, but Jim is right to say the early twenties are a turbulent time for many people. Here is a young woman who was accepted to West Point. Clearly there’s a lot of pressure for her to succeed. At the same time we see impulsive behaviors. Shoplifting is impulsive, and it got her kicked out of West Point. Weren’t there other criminal concerns at that time in her life? I think her behaviors were a cry for help. She was self-sabotaging because she didn’t think she was good enough. In addition, she is dealing with her stress by drinking. She has numerous car accidents in the span of a few months. Added to this inner turmoil about her drinking behavior is the knowledge of sister’s issues with drinking. I think she was ‘running away’ because she was afraid of being arrested, and being kicked out of nursing school after also failing at West Point. I think she was afraid to face her father’s disapproval and/or the disapproval of others (even if imagined). She didn’t want to seek help from the neighbors or the bus driver, because she would have to face the cops. She had alcohol in the car, and had been drinking alcohol. She was afraid she would be arrested, and she knew the cops were on their way. (Btw, New Hampshire state troopers are known for being pretty strict, tho I suppose it was local cops that responded). To escape, she impulsively took a ride from a stranger/ strangers, and unfortunately met foul play. It’s the likely explanation. There are no footprints leading away from car. The only question I have.. did she take her pocketbook? Glasses? House keys?

    This is my first posting but I have followed this story since the podcast launched.
    Here are a few thoughts:
    -Several exes went on record stating Maura was promiscuous (not judging, just saying; my own past is no church choir)
    -Alcohol and alcoholism are obviously genetically strong in her family
    -She was having an early-20’s crisis realizing she wasn’t the perfect image as portrayed in high school (again not judging)
    -She needed to get away. I do not believe she was suicidal. Desperate maybe but not suicidal.
    -She was closer to wasted than sober
    -She was abducted by either a criminal-of-opportunity or she didn’t know whomever might’ve been a “tandem driver” as well as she thought she did
    -The only true gut-feeling that I cannot shake is about the A-frame house
    -SOMETHING happened there (Brianna Maitland??)
    -Lastly (and this is wacky, I know, but there’s plenty out there on it) from The Smokies, through the Green Mountains & certainly up into the White Mountains, the entire Appalachian Range is rife with 200 years of disappearances. There are dozens of documented incidents regarding “hill people” multigenerational victims of inbreeding and antisocial non-culture & upbringing. The whole “these hills have eyes” concept. If this resonates w/ you do a deep dive on The Martin Disappearance” and be sure to focus on why a company of Army Rangers descended on the Smokies and conducted spook style night ops for a week during the hunt for the Martin boy.)
    -There’s something about the Appalachian Mountains that irks me. It is a feeling that I do not get in the Sierras or the Rockies.
    -Regrettably I personally believe that Maura Murray was dead by Tuesday February 10th.
    Lastly, a number of well meaning friends or acquaintances of Maura’s have stated she was “smart, but not street smart” Folks, this is 5 days before 2020. People get gunned down for being at Walmart at the wrong time. Fathers, raise your daughters to be crazy, hyper-suspicious. Raise your daughters to require trust be built & proven. Over time. This is not the America of 1955. This is not the America of 1975. This is not the America of 1995. There are enough psychopaths and sociopaths among us (plus alcoholics, dope fiends and Big Pharma test cases) who may have barely contained malice in their hearts 24/7 and are merely waiting for their own moment of a young, confused, pretty and likely intoxicated girl to stumble across their paths.
    When examining this case I think a hybrid solution is likely. But I think the fork in the road is whether you believe she got into a car with a stranger or that the tandem driver was her abducter and murderer. I know this is unpopular but I am going to write it anyway. It is actually a second gut-feeling that I cannot shake. And please forgive me as I am not trying to be a jerk, I’m just laying out what sticks in my craw:
    -Investigate that A-frame house and property to the last nail
    -There’s something about Maura’s father that I can feel. Something very dark. May be totally irrelevant to the case (as may be the A-frame house, but we are all bound in one big story and there’s something about that man. I am only stating my opinion and I hope that I am wrong and he is just a grief stricken father. But again,there’s something there. God bless all who care about this story and are genuinely moved by a lost young lady who was as much a part of this world as all of us.

    Tim and Lance you never mentioned Vasi's hit and run WHY ?

    • @thesacredmountain3448
      @thesacredmountain3448 2 года назад

      Because it’s not relevant to the case. There’s no evidence whatsoever that Maura hit Vasi or that her car being driven by someone else hit Vasi, and it would have been really difficult for Maura to be able to leave her work station undetected to drive over to where she needed to be, hit Vasi, come all the way back and no one knew she left. It just doesn’t make sense.

      Brett explored the theory that Maura, or at least Maura’s car hit Vasi.
      Brett and Alice of The Prosecutors Podcast are both attorneys.
      Brett shared information about paint chips found on/near Vasi.
      Evidently the colors were extremely unique.
      According to The Prosecutors podcast the paint chips are consistent with the Saturn emblem.
      I’ve never given this theory much thought.

    They dont give Clemente enough details. The bus driver reported maura was cold and shivering at 7:30pm. Police arrived 15 minutes later. The area has no cell service. She knew she would get a DUI if she waited around for the cops. Probably walked or ran down the road trying to get service, saw a car coming and got in the woods at some point. Juat do a sattelite view of that area. Its 99% forest, valleys, and gorges. Nobody kidnapped her. Either lazy searching by people or rough terrain to search. Id bet she died 20 yards off the side of that road a mile or 2 up or down from where her car was.

    Finally they have a true Lord forsman investigator on their show. No offense to art but the marshals service usually just looks for people that have already been accused of crimes or have warrants for their arrest. They usually do not solve crimes. And Maggie is a nice woman but she is incredibly naive and not a seasoned investigative reporter. She is too easily swayed by Fred Murray's lies. I like how this man focused on the stressors in her life immediately before she disappeared. I wonder what he would think if he knew that Maura 's 2 girlfriends have refused to speak publicly about what happened at the party immediately before she left.
