The first time through I had to keep shifting my focus to get the effect. The second time through I couldn't see that it was concave at all. I think that's particularly interesting because I had already watched another hollow mask illusion. I have to "reset" each time.
I had to focus on the nose and eyes so as not to see the shadows on the edges of the face for the illusion to work. Also rotating the mask caused a clearly concave shadow to appear on it at some point. When they started rotating the camera around the mask the illusion worked slightly better for me.
I bought one of these from Grand Illusions about 6 years ago. I paid £1,100 for the mask and it's recently been valued at just over £6,000! I think I'll keep mine for a few more years...

You can do a slightly similar effect with a pound note and the queens head. A £20 note is preferable. Make three folds down through the queens face, one on either sides of here mouth and one between those two folds. Then if you lean the note forward and backwards and she changes her expression from happy to sad and vice versa. "A lovely little trick, quite fascinating" is what Tim might say.
Like stop seeing the face as if it's sticking out at you? I've found with myself that when they face is tilted up or down, if watching say between the eyebrows and eyes, the face will look inverted for a moment, then you've just got to keep watching that cue afterward and it usually breaks it. Pretty fun challenge to do haha

The paint only enhances the illusion under the correct viewing angle and lighting conditions, i.e., the ones the pattern was designed to emulate. Deviate from them and the illusion is shattered. It's like using a forest camouflage pattern in a desert.
I have problem with Hollow Face Illusions. Or maybe it is just that i know how it's made. When i look at a Hollow face illusion irl, i do see the depth into it. Some people do see the effect pretty good, but i don't understand... When i close one of my eye, that's where i see the effect. Why is it that? Why does some people see the effect but not the others? Can it be bad sight of one eye or is my eyes or brain to good to see the depth of stuffs with help by 2 eyes? I'm bit confused, oh well when i find a Hollow Face Illusions, i know i should close one eye to see it.

And i found a test on the internet right now and tested it out, i got a score of 3, which means that there are possible no positive of schizophrenia. So i got an idea of if someone can show me a face illusion screen somehow without i knowing it, maybe that will trick me.

The hollowness of the painted side is easier to spot when they're tilting the mask than when they're rotating it.
