good to hear.
I blew my up PWS mod 2 upper (lower was fine) shooting bad ammo. Sent it back to PWS and they gave me another upper brand new and FREE! wasn't the guns fault as the ammo also blew up 3 other guns. Great company and I'm a customer for life
Love my PWS rigs. Have three in 5.56 and one in 7.62x39. My BCM and DD rigs have become somewhat my safe queens now.
The PWS long stroke piston ARs are perfect suppressor hosts. My Turbo K mated to my Mk116 makes a nice, low-toned thump noise. Sounds awesome!
Right on
I bought my FDE Mk116 in 2011. I believe they call it the Mod-0 now. It doesn't have adjustable gas, or the ability to quickly take apart the piston/ swap charging handles. It features a proprietary low profile quad rail that is literally bomb proof, and i swear that design acts as a barrel stabilizer, the barrel doesn't have any whippy feeling like my 16" free-float setup does.. It also has the original enhanced buffer tube with the qd sling swivel points built in. I believe the barrel is 416R, Isonite qpc, 1/8 twist medium profile. I saw some test results(can't remember where) showing the barrel treatment was actually increasing velocity quite a bit, 14.5' was getting 16" velocity and 16" was getting 18" velocity. Pretty cool!
There's definitely some magic going on with the cerecoted inside of the upper receiver + the isonite BCG combo. Super buttery and premium feel when manipulating the bcg and shooting. Shoots pretty flat but you can definitely feel the extra weight of that piston thumpin on the shoulder eh!? Its a good enjoyable thump that makes you wanna keep shooting till you perfect your thump control and then boom! Your out of ammo. Evertime. That pws thump is just too good a feeling! You won't realize you're addicted to the feeling until you stop shooting it in favor of a lighter weight gas gun only to realize you've been daydreaming of that visceral PWS long-stroke experience.. Shooting the PWS may have you question your stroke game. "Am I thumping her like my PWS thumps? Am i really thumping at all or just short stroking? Am i too gentle?"..She wants that long stroke thump! And so do you, but with the PWS, and your shoulder..
Anyway.. I always wished it was lighter so i have er setup simple, with just a red dot and flashlight. But i think it would be better to just embrace the weight and add a bipod, foregrip, maybe an old Acog, a drum mag and a quick trigger. At least that's my dream setup to give my ol 116 new life..
Its been cool to see what the PWS rifles have become. Adjustable gas + the new rail system, barrel profile, and buffer tube all shaved some weight. Nice! With that said i wouldn't trade my Mod-0. its really not that heavy, its just bombproof solid, simple and gives me confidence to laydown more fire than the particular gas guns i have. Also i think it looks cooler than the newer designs, fde + quad rail is just classic and picatiny is still the strongest attachment method.
Hell, this here old fde Mod-0 is a rare and valuable commodity!
There was a cool picture of Chris Kyle in the field with his personal Mk116. There were also some pictures from Rangerproof DMack shooting a one hole group at 100 meters (off his pack with a Acog) after over 20,000 rounds though his MK114 mostly steel case, never a proper cleaning, just occasionally wiping the bcg down and small amounts of lube..
Hey! If you read this far you're a legend and a longstroke thumper.
I love my PWS. MK111 mod 1. The thing I've noticed the most is its recoil impulse is different than my DI AR15s.
Also, my main complaint is PWS didn't actively disclose the materials used for their barrels and bcg components which I personally think is pretty important.
Im confused, it says on their website? 41V50 Steel and it has their proprietary DLC coating or something like that, the owner explains it in some videos.
@@jamfd3s788 when I bought my MK111 they didn't state anything on their website. When I inquired to customer support they wouldn't tell me flat out what either were made of for some strange reason.
Ya I agree they probably used the same steels as everyone else, but the fact that they don’t openly state what it is, definitely leaves room for concern.
I can almost guarantee the carriers are 8620 and bolts are 9310. as for the rest of the bits of the piston system, no idea.
How is the impulse different? Can you explain. Love my DI 11.5 thinking about switching over
Own it. LOVE IT. +2000rds. and ever had a malfunction. I'm using a Windham Weaponry lower, with the MK116 upper, VG5 muzzle break. Buy one, you will NOT regret it. They have short barrel, badass uppers, that just came out too!
Love PWS products. They are like chips, you can’t have just one. Got my first in the MK114 Mod2 years ago and now have the MK116, MK111, all in 223 Wylde and an MK109 in 300 blk. They are all incredibly reliable, run very clean, are super accurate, and well engineered. You can’t go wrong with any of their setups, from the Pro series, Mod1 to the Mod2, they are all built like tanks.
Don't say that. My wallet is already screaming. Kidding aside, I took, my 116 mod 2 upper to the range for the first time this weekend. Worked nicely. Just need to get used to the piston recoil impulse.
Ha…enjoy and welcome to the club
Best Rifles out there in my opinion! Own MK114 MK116 and Mk107. Run suppressors flawlessly.
Jon I know you have a soft spot for 7.62x39 ar15’s the mk111 x39 is an absolute must have. They only make them twice a year and you have to order and wait most of the time but worth every penny. Don’t think just buy, borrow, beg or steal however you can get your hands on one. Mike at fortress tactical can hook you up for sure. Keep up the awesome content brother
Thanks for the tip, I will have to look into them.
Measured.. long stroke piston BCG with piston apparatus is 3.4 oz’s heavier than the DI. I can barely feel that difference, but hey, I’m 80 and I guess my “spidey senses” aren’t as refined as a young pup’s. I did notice, to me at least, the piston system shot softer than the DI’s I’ve shot but that might just be gas adjustability. Great video! Thank you!
PWS does some nice piston builds. Thanks for the share!!
Game nerd here, the use of the Catalyst music from Mass Effect 3 is awsome.
right on man!
My mk114 mod 2 is my favorite rifle. Topped with an acog & offset holosun it’s my true shtf rig. More accurate than I thought it would be
Just got my Type A 14.5 Piston AR and loving it so far. First piston rifle so I don’t have any comparisons.
i bought my complete Mk116 mod2m a few months ago and it has not disappointed me. Super soft shooting. Recently picked up a TA02 acag and I'm excited to try it out at further distance!
Nice!
PWS is king when it comes to a piston setup.
I have the Mk114 Mod 2 and was finally able to get my hands on their stripped ambi lower. Not a single shop in the communist state of California carries PWS guns. I absolutely love it and will not sell it for any other piston gun out there.
@8:50: Impingement on all types of bolt carriers happens off-center, not just with long stroke pistons. In both DI and short-stroke, both exert force on a flat face on top of the BCG and inline with the gas tube or piston on top of the barrel.
PWS is an awesome manufacturer. One of my favorites today. Love their long stroke piston system. I like how they made an innovative ar at an affordable price. And their modular suppressors are very nice. My next ar is definitely gonna be from PWS. Awesome video bro.
Dude I blew up my Pws upper shooting shit ammo that also blew up other rifles. This past December, I sent it back to the company and they replaced the entire upper free of charge. I'm now a lifelong customer
Phenomenal guns. Super clean. Extremely accurate especially for piston gun. Solid build. Manual says clean after 5000 rounds - try that with a DI gun. Eats everything I feed it from cheap dirty stuff to match ammo. Just shoot it, put back in your safe, and forget about it. Love it. Got rid of all my DI guns. And, excellent customer service. Friend put 50K rounds through his and wore out the barrel. PWS installed a new barrel and parts for free.
Nice, cool to hear.
My favorite PWS is a MK111 Mod 2 chambered in .300 Blackout!!!
Nice.
Pws mk116 7.62x39 🎉
Ya, as much as I dislike AR's (I carried a M16 back in the day)... I broke down and Got a PWS 111 pro upper.... and then dang it.. bought the lower..... Now going to get rid of my BCA side chargers because i still hate DI rifles... lol. when you look at an AK bolt.... and then the fiddly bits of an AR BCG.... It's a No brainer... But still trying to like the platform... She's a heavy little beast, but suppressed is cool..
ha, well I am glad you like the PWS stuff.
This seems ideal for a non reciprocating left side charging/forward charging handle, and I wonder why they opted not to do it if the upper and handguard are both proprietary. Seems like a logical step, no?
Manual of arms. If you are aiming to snag serious shooters, then you don't make a novelty setup like a side charger.
I think they want it to be as similar to an AR as possible, for people wanting to switch over.
@@Osprey1994 There is nothing novelty about a side charger, unless one is stuck in the crappy AR charging manual of arms.
7:50 gas rings have nothing to do with this. This is because PWS has a spring loaded bolt & without the recoil spring overpowering it, the bolt is pushed forward into the "unlock" position by the carrier spring. So it falls out of the barrel extension.
Also, on a DI gun, gas pushes FORWARD on the gas rings (not back) pushing the bolt forward while pushing the carrier back, easing the unlocking process & removing strain from the bolt lugs during unlocking.
Otherwise, good read.
Best piston AR. Only step up is the XCR imo
haven't tried that one yet.
If youre going to shoot suppressed dont bother with anything else, this thing rocks
I've been waiting for either PWS or an Aftermarket Rail company to make 7 sided MLok rails for this upper before I pick one up
Somebody needs to get on it.
How's that steiner? I'm looking at their 1-6 and 1-8 for my Mk118 upper. Love PWS. Nate and Adam are always on deck to help me spend more money with them
The 1-4 has great glass and is super light, just wish it wasn't so expensive for a 1-4x.
Hey man, I've been watching your content for a long time and really enjoy your thorough analysis and mechanical understanding of the platform. You're very technical in your approach and personally as a technical person in general I very much so appreciate that.
I'd like to ask a question that is unrelated to the topic at hand. It's regarding your YHM Turbo. I know you had issues with the YHM mounts degrading accuracy and such. BUT, when using those...were they rearden mounts? Either way, assuming the end user selects an appropriate aftermarket mount--do you recommend the YHM Turbo? I am looking into getting my first suppressor and am considering the YHM T3 or T2 but with the aftermarket mounts that you suggested in your previous video on the Focustripp channel. Are they good to go for high round count shooting or should I just pony up and get a Surefire RC2?
if you can get one for cheap and you are already planning on swapping mounts they are just find.
What scope and sight set up are you running in this video?
Great Video! Please do a POF 415 gas piston upper.
Just a bunch of money to drop haha
Have read tons of mixed reviews on POF rigs over the years. That, and you always seem to find plenty of their rifles available for sale on many websites. Makes you wonder.
Excellent content as always Jon. In your Mk111 videos you said you'd take the Mod-1 over the Mod-2 or the Pro. Just wondering if that has changed any since getting hands on with this one. Seriously considering a mk111 mod-1 at the moment. Thanks for the video!
Just the differences in what I use now vs then. You should get the one that works best for you.
What is difference between mod 1 mod 2 and pro
Would you say PWS makes the best Piston ar15? Trying to decide if I should go BCM for my next rifle or PWS. Heck maybe both 😅.
I love my PWS MK114, the only con PWS is proprietary, upper parts would be exclusive to them.
It's the best for the money. free floating barrel, mlok, raptor charging handle, etc. I put it on a Windham Weaponry lower, and it's badass. Windham used to be bushmaster. I've NEVER had a malfunction with it. Ever. VG5 muzzle break. PWS just came out with the SBR version too!
I own PWS and BCM rifles, both are great.
@@unkorads1009 ya that’s very true but a very good rifle the parts should last you your entire life unless you are someone who regularly shoots. Which is few.
Best piston ar hands down
Can’t decide if I want pws mk116 or Psa Jakl
Mk116.
@@gundeals it would be the cheaper option. Plus my complete lower works with it right out of the box. What’s your reason for suggesting mk116
Speaking as someone who owns PWS rigs and a PSA Jakl, I say the MK116 over the Jakl all day, every day.
The Jakl is wider than a standard AR upper, therefore requiring a proprietary bolt catch to the lower, which limits what AR lower you can use. Don’t have that issue with PWS uppers.
The side changing handle. While a cool concept, it’s flimsy. There’s a lot of play with it and I’m not so confident it can take an hit, whether intentional or not. Probably would explain why people recommend buying an additional charging handle.
Reassembling the Jakl is a pain. It literally took me numerous times to get the BCG back into the upper receiver. If you watch T.Rex Arms review of the Jakl, you’ll see they encounter the exact same issue. A rifle should not be a challenge to reassemble.
All in all, I like the Jakl. I don’t love it. Like many things with PSA, there are QA/QC issues that need to be resolved. It needs to be slimmed down to where it doesn’t require a proprietary bolt catch, and they need to tighten up the tolerance of the charging handle so it doesn’t rattle around. If PSA ever makes a 2nd Gen of the Jakl to where they address these issues, more power to them.
PWS MK109.
If in .300 Blackout, sure. Not in 5.56mm, too short!
.300bo would be sweet.
Can you run a jp silent capture spring with this one? Probably a stupid question.
Between this and the LWRC DI which would be the better grab? Seeing both available in their ambi specs at roughly 1500 each
For most people, the LWRC.
So, according to the barrel profile, you sed that's not heavy and not lightweight but something in between. So, is it something similar to the government profile?
Its a taper profile, reminds me of the BA Hanson
As someone who has attempted to suppress an 11.5" gieselle, a 12.5" Wolf A1, and a BA 13.9" with a Turbo K and was never not gassed out, how was the gas to the face on it?
Very little.
Get one. You will not regret it.
There is very very little gas. Indoor shooting you will get some, outdoor its amazing
I’ll take this over anything made by IWI for obvious reasons…
What “obvious” reason?
What are your top 5 softest shooting ar. You said this pws is in your top 5. Wondering what other 4 are? Can you do a video
Out of the box.
Criterion
Rosco Purebred
Geissele
BA Hanson
What gas port allows for that soft shooting? And what buffer weights and springs do you use alongside each barrell?
What is it price you guys?
Caracal 816
It’s just a 3rd generation HK 416. It’s not all that compared to a PWS.
This or the JAKL?
I'm asking myself the same thing 😂
Not the Jakl, anything but the Jakl.
Now forward assist = range toy
PWS is more affordable and better than Adam Arms period.
I agree that PWS is better quality than Adams Arms. However, I bought both of my AA uppers for $499 each. Can’t say that about PWS uppers.
I want one! PWS rifles if you're listening and read this then get contact me.
what does PWS stand for/mean?
Primary Weapon Systems.
I wanted to give you some constructive criticism on editing of your videos. Your intros are beyond loud so you must rush to dull the volume, and then when you start to speak you must turn it up again. Can you change this up a bit.
Intro's are beyond comfortable level, then you can't hear what you are saying right after in terms of actual reviews.
The sound is too loud compared to basically any video on youtube, because you pushed it way past clipping levels, and you hear insane amount of distortion.
Thanks for the tips!
12:45 dude PWS is much cheaper than Geissele or especially DD. What are u talking about fam? A better comparison would be BCM. A complete BCM rifle is about $1200-$1500 at most. These PWS rifles are the exact same.
Geisseles are $1000-$1500
@@gundeals no geissele super duty is $1000 my guy. At best you can get one for maybe $1200-$1300 but most ppl pay closer to $1800 for a super duty.
$1071 right now - geissele.com/super-duty-complete-upper-14-5-5-56mm-black-1.html
You are arguing with the wrong person.
@@gundeals ya genius that’s the upper alone I’m clearly talking about the entire rifle. How do u not know that?… when ppl refer to the price of a rifle they typically are referencing the complete rifle not just an upper 🤯
I see you're cheating on my mk111 upper
yes :)
