One thing newbies forget to do is turn off their irrelevant keywords if they're running ads. This will save you money and help you spend on better conversions.

GREAT stuff, Shawna!! Using the same attributes actually helps to establish your brand/niche. For example, if you make almost nothing but Military designs, then Clothing Style should be set to that, even if you do an army rainbow flag that you think might be better as "Boho/Hippe". In our experience it helps Etsy's algorithm figure out who you are and what you are doing. A+ on your search bar tip! We use that all the time to help with SEO tags, keywords, etc. You made me LOL at your competition comments! You are SO right! The competition is not that great - SEO is a big area where competitors are shockingly awful!! Sorry to be so blunt, but I see many listings with 7 of 13 tags and single word tags, like "shirt" and "cute tshirt". Crazy!

The other day I saw someone post a shop in a POD forum for others to critique it. I looked at it, and they had random clipart just plopped on shirts, many even with partially removed backgrounds. When I pointed it out that it won't quite cut it, they told me I simply did not understand their genius and was too old to understand their "design style". If you're even a little bit ahead of this level of self absorbed, you've got this ... keep swimming :D
Shawna I have no clue on the search algorithm, but I created a design on july 27th or 28th I don't remember and I got a sale on the 30th! I think this is the fastest anyone found me in search! She was in Canada :)

I have an unusual question I hope you can answer. I've had an Etsy shop since 2014 but abandoned it long ago. I had 5 or 6 listings and no sales and let my shop sit. Now I want to revive it and jump in at full steam. My question: Is it an advantage to use my shop, that has been around since 2014, - or - should I create a new shop? I want to make sure it's not a disadvantage that I have a 9 year old shop that has no sales history. Could this effect either the algorithm or potential buyers in the following example: Say I make 100 sales over the next 3 months. Does it look better that I have a 9 year old shop with only 100 sales, or a 3 month old shop with 100 sales? I was hoping that it would be an advantage to show that I've been there for awhile but then again my "all time sales" would always be low for the age of the shop. I hope I've conveyed my conundrum properly. Love your videos and looking forward to building my new (old) shop! Thanks!
I would really love to see more on the tumbler community and custom tumblers, snow globe tumblers , mugs and cups… I feel like the tumbler community never has anything spoken on and it’s a high demand on information but there isn’t much for Etsy and tumblers. I am a small business and do sell on fb and vendor events but really looking into Etsy but lost because the tumblers don’t have much information. Thank you for all your amazing information ❤

I have not been doing all of the attributes and I’ll change that. I was doing some but not like the street wear or putting them under the graphic tees category. I did however do an A/B testing on one product and not even 24 hours later I got a sale on the new listing. All I did was change the font.

This can be a struggle! I sometimes did it poorly and it was a stretch! Other times it was a cross niched item and tried leaning more heavily into each of the niches for two blocks and tried a mix for the third to see which one would do the best! Hope this helps!

If I'm canadian and have my shop set to Canada with CAD as my currency, will that affect the algorithm, or is that not relevant? Like for example, will Etsy choose to show US listings to US buyers before mine since it matches the country and currency or is it all centered on SEO? Also, when you talked about the 3 listings with the different SEO blocks, would you be able to break down those blocks and show examples of what each one looks like? I guess my question is would it be a good idea to branch out to other items and grow my shop to more than just one type of shop and will it in theory still grow? Hey there! I have been struggling with a similar decision! Do a separate SVG shop or just add it to my shop. I'm leaning toward just adding it to my shop! So I think that is what I would do if I were you! At this point if I wind up making it a separate shop it will be so I can document the process on RUclips! Hope this helps!

Hey there Lizzard! If the listing is doing great I would leave it alone! But I have often updated attributes that I realized were not the best match on many listings. I do not think it will hurt you if the attribute wasn't great... like you accidentally had white chosen when it should have been black. Hope this helps!

Hey Vicki! I think it is a great way to help grow your shop! You can always pull away from it later and offer fewer new items that can be customized. I don't think you HAVE to do it but I think it sure does help!

Hey there Aisha! Open that listing up and make sure all is good with it! Are there any goofy things you did by mistake that make it hard for the customer to check out? Like is it something they can customize but you forgot to toggle over the personalization window to be included? After you know all is good double down on that! Make more designs using that SEO! Try to figure out why they are clicking on it. Leave those elements! Experiment and get ten new related things up in your shop... OR MORE! Hope this helps!
Hey Dawn! I do plan to do a whole video on this in my Getting Ready for Q4 series! But to say it quickly my phrases are different but I do will have repeated words within them. So for example if it is a Christmas item I might have Cat Christmas Shirt in one block and Christmas Tee for Cat Lover in the other. (Totally just pulled those out of the air by the way!... No solid research behind those!). Hope this helps!

It has worked like that most of the time , but I got a 1 day overdue shown on one order the other day and I had to go in and add the tracking number to complete the order. Hopefully it won’t happen again. Thanks Shawna

(AOP) that does not allowed me to transport to other mockups, so I really hate the way my designs look on those mockups...do you by any chance know how to deal with this?? Hey there Gracie! I am so glad you enjoyed this one! So are you just using the mock ups from Printify? The ones they generate for you when you list something starting in Printify? You can go right onto Etsy and get your self some really pretty mock ups and use your design software to super impose the design right on top of the mock up. Then go into your listing on Etsy and add the mock up to your listing. If I misunderstood the question feel free to ask me again!
@@shawnalynn2083 Hi Shawna thank you for your answer, no no I'm talking about AOP (all over printing) the only POD that does that is MWW on Demand I used it for Hoodies that I can design all over the garment I'm having fun doing this but at the same time I feel that how I present it dosen;t really make justice to the design, so they have their own mockups that are horrible I can't transport it to other mockups and that is making me crazy. In Etsy there is others, not many, doing the same (the one that sales the most is Psychedelic Hoodies) and I can see that they have the same problem the horrible mockups, I think is nothing we can do😂
Great Great Question! ON BOTH! UNLESS... the AB test is if you are looking to see if ads makes a difference. Then your group A would have ads and group B would not. Everything else about the listings would be the same. Hope this helps!
Great! Thank you! I had my ad budget at $100 a day and it was spent by mid day. When I looked at my keywords there were such broad keywords like “tshirt” and “cute shirt” and soooo many SVG & PNG!!! I’m so glad I saw this and turned those all off!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Is there a difference between "Funny Teacher Shirt" "Kindergarten Tshirt" And "Funny shirt Tshirt" "Kindergarten teacher" Basically, does it matter what order the words are in the tags?
Hey there! If you found all these tags with a solid SEO strategy I would use all of them! If you are using Everbee or another SEO tool you can look up to see which of them is the most searched and put that one at the front of your title. I wouldn't worry about the order of the rest of them. If not, I like to use the one that appeared in the most best selling listings at the front. But whatever you do don't spend to much time on this and second guessing yourself. Make a decision and get that listing up!:)

Hey there Lizzard! If the listing is doing great I would leave it alone! But I have often updated attributes that I realized were not the best match on many listings. I do not think it will hurt you if the attribute wasn't great... like you accidentally had white chosen when it should have been black. Hope this helps!

Hey Vicki! I think it is a great way to help grow your shop! You can always pull away from it later and offer fewer new items that can be customized. I don't think you HAVE to do it but I think it sure does help!

Hey there Aisha! Open that listing up and make sure all is good with it! Are there any goofy things you did by mistake that make it hard for the customer to check out? Like is it something they can customize but you forgot to toggle over the personalization window to be included? After you know all is good double down on that! Make more designs using that SEO! Try to figure out why they are clicking on it. Leave those elements! Experiment and get ten new related things up in your shop... OR MORE! Hope this helps!

Hey Dawn! I do plan to do a whole video on this in my Getting Ready for Q4 series! But to say it quickly my phrases are different but I do will have repeated words within them. So for example if it is a Christmas item I might have Cat Christmas Shirt in one block and Christmas Tee for Cat Lover in the other. (Totally just pulled those out of the air by the way!... No solid research behind those!). Hope this helps!

Hey there! If you have your print on demand company synced with Etsy it should be automatically doing that for you. Hope this helps!
It has worked like that most of the time , but I got a 1 day overdue shown on one order the other day and I had to go in and add the tracking number to complete the order. Hopefully it won’t happen again. Thanks Shawna

Keep at it! Practice really does make perfect here and you will get faster and those listings will add up!

This video is everything Shawna! Talking abouth great mockups I'm having a hard time because I choose a Printify co. (AOP) that does not allowed me to transport to other mockups, so I really hate the way my designs look on those mockups...do you by any chance know how to deal with this?? Thank you so much for great content always!
Hey there Gracie! I am so glad you enjoyed this one! So are you just using the mock ups from Printify? The ones they generate for you when you list something starting in Printify? You can go right onto Etsy and get your self some really pretty mock ups and use your design software to super impose the design right on top of the mock up. Then go into your listing on Etsy and add the mock up to your listing. If I misunderstood the question feel free to ask me again!
@@shawnalynn2083 Hi Shawna thank you for your answer, no no I'm talking about AOP (all over printing) the only POD that does that is MWW on Demand I used it for Hoodies that I can design all over the garment I'm having fun doing this but at the same time I feel that how I present it dosen;t really make justice to the design, so they have their own mockups that are horrible I can't transport it to other mockups and that is making me crazy. In Etsy there is others, not many, doing the same (the one that sales the most is Psychedelic Hoodies) and I can see that they have the same problem the horrible mockups, I think is nothing we can do😂
Hey Shawna! What do you do about your duplicates when running ads? Do you run ads on both listings or just one of them?
Great Great Question! ON BOTH! UNLESS... the AB test is if you are looking to see if ads makes a difference. Then your group A would have ads and group B would not. Everything else about the listings would be the same. Hope this helps!
Great! Thank you! I had my ad budget at $100 a day and it was spent by mid day. When I looked at my keywords there were such broad keywords like “tshirt” and “cute shirt” and soooo many SVG & PNG!!! I’m so glad I saw this and turned those all off!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Hey there! If you found all these tags with a solid SEO strategy I would use all of them! If you are using Everbee or another SEO tool you can look up to see which of them is the most searched and put that one at the front of your title. I wouldn't worry about the order of the rest of them. If not, I like to use the one that appeared in the most best selling listings at the front. But whatever you do don't spend to much time on this and second guessing yourself. Make a decision and get that listing up!:)
