Great chassis. I have built my own chassis' over the years, but I like yours. I'm going to extend the back longer. However,I would love your plans like you are doing it.
I love the build! Your videos are really great for someone like me looking for the right project but too scared to pull the trigger. I've been building cages for 4x4s recently, but chassis design has always been a little difficult conceptually for me. I would really like to see your designs for this bug (need a new quarantine project). The fact that you're using geometric shapes to strengthen everything really intrigues me as a fabricator and I think having a solid template will really help me with a build.
You have done a great job on this project. I’m enjoying this build with all the videos. Keep going and I’ll keep watching Buddy . Thanks again. BigW:-)
Hey doug. Ive started my build for a 4x4 ecotec buggy. Ive gotta joyner 650 frame that im gonna adapt to meet my needs. Love watching your vids learning how to fab up the frame. And suspension. Im currently going for a 4x4 vw syncro trans with a decoupler to make it a true 4x4. If you have any tips id love to hear them
Hmmm, sounds like a fun project. My advice would be to try not to overbuild the frame. I see that a lot and am guilty myself as well. Remember if you triangulate it then it will basically be as strong as possible. Try to keep it triangulated all the way through so you don't get much flex between the front to the rear. Especially for you since you'll have gearboxes front and rear.
I enjoy you videos, thumbs up. I have an old bug which I need to transform it to baja bug but been having difficulties in the DIY. Can you share the files on this? Thanks in anticipation.
Thanks for the vid. I am curious what your last car weighed? Did you ever take it to a scale? My desert car came in at 1350 with fuel. The Tub buggy came in at 1625 Thx
Hi Doug, really good info and motivational stuff here, I have Bend Tech PRO 7x, I'd like to get your chassis design please, it 'd be really nice to get started on some project like this, it's something I've been postponing for a while, maybe it's time, thanks for your videos and keep rocking with this kind of stuff!!!
Hey Doug, I had a question or two about the approach you've taken with the chassis design. I see you have minimal bends in your tubing and mostly straight sections with hard corners (mitered). I'm assuming it was easier with the bend tech program since it allows you to use the coping guides? Do you believe using many separate pieces rather than more continuous pieces is stronger? Just seems like the more joints would lead to more points of potential failure. Thanks in advance for your response.
Here's why I did it that way. I used to try to avoid mitres thinking they were weak points and do bends where I could. However when I was at the Mint 400 I got to look at many chassis up close and personal. One thing I noticed is that they had lots of mitered joints. I even talked to one fella about it and he said mitered joints are not an issue if properly cut and welded. And he stated that if a mitered joint is triangulated it's as strong as a straight or bend. Then on top of that I want to panel the outside of the chassis. So I think it will be easier to panel a mitered joint rather than a bent joint. So that's why I was comfortable with the miters and you'll notice when the chassis is done almost every mitered joint is triangulated. Great question, thanks for asking it.
I will be the first to say that trying to be consistent with the bender is difficult to say the least. Even with all the tools and doodads designed to make it easier. I will definitely be using mitered joints on my next build as it looks much easier to calculate and hold consistent measurements. Thanks for being active with your audience.
@@DougBugBuilder, A fella?? Triangulated?? I read, absolute foolishness. Every angle, every imaginable radius/curve/arc is triangulated. Doesn’t mean it’s worth a sh!t. Sound engineering is predicated upon industry standards. Not a fella, nor, triangulation. Triangulation is not an industry standard upon which decisions are made. Triangulation is simply a means to acquire a dimension and/or a shape or anything - on any plane.
