The band had ties to pawn shops - lead singer Brad Nowell used to pawn his guitar for drug money. Producer and friend Miguel always had to go buy it back before shows. R.I.P. Bradley truly a pioneer of ska music
well said
We need April 29, 1992. Such a classic
its just a song about how addicts constantly end up back at the pawn shop buying back their own instruments
FACTS
Sublime is the ULTIMATE kick back, smoke and chill music. I promise
Bad fish by Sublime
April 29 1992 by Sublime tells you a little more about the pawn shop :)
Doin' Time by Sublime with the Pharcyde
Sublime - “Get ready” and “Caress me down”. You’re welcome.
Classic album..dive into that you won’t be disappointed
Their album 40oz to freedom is a solid listen from 1st track to the last. Hits reggae, punk, rap, Ska, and alt rock in 1 album with crazy samples and cuts
It's my favorite, and the first one I picked up.
Best…. Second to the acoustic album w/ just Brad
Its a trip, and i can get down to it
Half might need to hear "Smoke two joints"? Jai might need to send Half to the couch😂.
Sublime gives “Good vibes, baby”. RIP BRADLEY. You probably could find an old Sublime CD down there at the Pawn Shop.
Be nice to Sublime!!!
Jai understands!!
This is about the terrible feeling of selling your things at the pawn shop to feul your heroin addiction, even though you know its killing you. RIP Brad. This was a strange one to start with but a great song nonetheless. I reccomend "Santeria", "What I Got", or "Doin Time"
Right, but not just drug addicts, people who just need money...remember that it's flesh and bone
One of those unique bands that even if ur not a fan of the genre they just have that sound...
Sublime is huge on reggae and reggae riffs. Bradley Knowle spent a lot of time going back and fourth to Jamaica with his father. He was inspired by the music and culture. That in turn, played out later in his life and music.
Love them!! Please Do BadFish by Sublime!
Yes! This is a must listen :)
10000% agree in this one!!
"Wrong Way", "Santeria", "What I Got"
Eastside Long Beach at its finest!!! Bradley and Snoop put Long Beach on the map musically and were the forefathers of every musican that came out of Long Beach after the early 90’s. Everyone in Long Beach knows Bradley and Calvin, pretty much like permanent icon status if you are from the city. I appreciate you showing love to my city. Keep up the good work. God Bless you guys, Ive been a fan since day UNO!
Sublime is a vibe. You can't be mad listening to them. If you were mad before, you won't be afterwards.
I don't comment much but as soon as I seen sublime I started typing lol. They were the shit back then, regae, hip hop,and punk rock fusion band. Unfortunately they were only well known about 2 years, industry wise anyway before Brad the singer overdosed. Rip btw, check out April 29,1992. That's the song title, about the Rodney King riots.
Thanks y'all this made my morning!
Pawn shop? Who suggested this?
Sublime,
40oz to freedom
Bad fish
What i got
Krs1
Santeria
I saw red
Word sublime. Oh hell yeah... the wrong way is a great song
His soul is at the pawn shop cause he keeps pawning his stuff for drugs..
Sublime. The band of many genres
Their song Date Rape is one of the funniest songs ever recorded......total classic
Take a chance Half you will loooove this song
You need to go down the Sublime rabbit hole. So many songs that go beyond the pawn shop. "Bad Fish", "Smoke two joints", Garden Grove", Caress Me Down", etc. R.I.P. Bradley
I love seeing people jam to sublime for the first time, honestly makes me so happy!
So many of their songs remind me of my son. Especially Santeria and What I Got. My old Sublime t-shirt is almost worn through.
Any girl that can jam to Pawn Shop like your lady wins my heart no cap
Sublime is great band for yall to dive more into. You won't regret it.
Yes!!!! Watch Bad fish!!!! One of the best songs by Sublime!!!!! That and Doin Time.
I'd have to say that if ur not familiar with Sublime, def check out some other songs. Pawn shop is chill but doesn't really touch who they are. They def have strong influences from the reggae and sample tons of the greats.
They were a mix genre of music but Reggae was the foundation of there music overall.
Try Sublime Garden Grove , Ruca, What I got, and Don’t Push!!! You might like these 4songs!!!
I'm surprised someone suggested this song since it's one of the more disliked songs by Sublime fans. You absolutely need to react to more of their music.
Pawn Shop isn't one of my favorite Sublime songs, but it got a lot of play on the radio. It's about selling your stuff for drug money. It's repetitive nature seems more meaningful in that context. Supposedly Bradley used to pawn his guitar and someone would have to go get it back for him before shows. Pretty tragic stuff.
100% one of the best smoke and chill bands.
He wrote this song because his heroin addiction got so bad that he would pawn his guitar to get his fix and the other 2 band members and best friend/producer would have to get his instrument back to play the next shows. He was in deep and died a few days before the release of this big time album. Rest in peace Bradley Nowell. ✌. The instruments speak just as much emotion as the minimal lyrics.
Love how she said, "I'm getting my groove on!!!!"
"JUST REMEMBER ITS FLESH AND BONES" The message.
Bro, you gotta FEEL Pawn Shop. It'll grow on you, guaranteed.
The song is about the heroin addiction that lead singer/guitarist Brad Nowell suffered from. He would pawn his guitar and equipment for heroin money. His friends would have to go buy it back so they could make the next show. He eventually died from that addiction. He helped bring reggae to a new generation. With his own unique sound. He’s inspired millions.
I dont care what the calendar says... this album is the official start of summer
Omg unique song ,but I can relate back in the day when I was drinking a bit much oh well we're all human we lick our wounds and carry on . Love watching your videos, I always look forward to seeing both of you ,takes my mind off this pandemic, much love coming from Alberta Canada !
Such a classic Cali album for that time! The whole album was lit 🔥. RIP Bradley Nowell.
HELL TO THA YESSSSS! MY JAM FAM 💜💜💜
love this group- never really noticed how many times he says down here at the pawn shop lol- i think they were probably jamming and kinda turned it into a song- they're definitely in the reggae genre- along with ska and they delve into punk somewhat too- i second that recommendation for the song april 26 1992- along with garden grove- or the obvious most famous one that has a video- "what i got"
Great jam song. They have other great songs...
What I Got was a hit on the radio
Badfish was a hit in our hearts
RIP Bradley
If you like their style, try 311. They are very popular and they go all out in concerts. Sounds like _Come Original, Down, Amber, Don't Stay Home, I'll Be Here Awhile, All Mixed Up..._ A rabbit hole.
Yall need to "April 29th 1992" by Sublime!!!! And also "What I Got" is a great song too👍👍👍
Don’t sleep, on this band.. much love..
More , than a stoner band
This song is a favorite for most of my stoner friends 😂😂😂 ❤#hog
Crazy this outta all their stuff yall chose this one!! Theres so much more half you try to analyze but jai just gets it! I hope yall dive into all they have to offer!!
Lmfaoooo what’s at the pawn shop🤣🤣🤣🤣
Half, lol I love you bro. You have a fun, unfiltered energy. I mean no offense, but please listen. For whatever reason, sometimes we can have difficulty hearing the messages from music. There are many reasons. I've seen it many times. Hits me too. Nothing wrong with that, everybody is different, moods come and go- but reading just a paragraph or two on what the song is about before listening can *really* help put you in the right mindset to not only understand, but *feel* it's meaning and inspiration. That being said, I love y'alls chemistry and it always makes me smile when I see a new reaction from you two. Stay up, y'all. Love & peace!
The famous quote about SUBLIME is the lead singer told a magazine interviewer, "They're (radio programmers) gonna be up all night trying to fit us into one of their genres....) For certain, they are a reggae, ska, punk, hip hop, rock band.
btw, this song is a reggae dub song.
Sublime "April 29th 1992"
Down At The Pawn Shop!!!! Whooop Whooop!!!!
When I first heard this song, I was so young that I didn't even really know what a pawn shop was. It was a city thing, a "bad part of town thing." I didn't know that 6 years or so later, I would be down at the pawn shop, trying to get money for food, trying to get money for coke. Selling things that meant something to me, "flesh and bone", for what felt like pennies, but topped us off for the rent. When I was younger, I didn't know what any of this meant.
Sublime Legends ,R.I.p.Bradly...u got much music to learn grasshopper
Without knowing the lead singer, Bradley Nowell's, struggle with addiction this song isn't where I would start with Sublime. It's a good jam but I would start with any of these:
What I Got
Smoke 2 Joints
April 26, 1992
Bad Fish
Santetia
Caress Me Down
Waiting for my Ruca
Date Rape
Sublime is a pioneer band the Ska genre. One of my faves from the 90's. They got me through some serious rough days!
April 29th 1992, do this song. Sublimes self titled album is my go to, put it in and let it play album. You know the kind, where you are singing the next song before it starts kind of album. They were amazing.
I seen Sublime and immediately gave it a thumbs up!
that opening riff welcomes EVERVODY
I love how music gets all up in Jai 🔥
Man I ain't listen to sublime in years another great 90s band
Love ya'll, I got to say I've looked back and you two are working y'all got tons of reaction videos. Keep up the good work. Money seems to follow hard work.
PLEASE react to more Sublime songs! They have your vibe! So sad that Bradley is no longer with us.
Sup Half and Jai. Good vibes all day. Keep em coming. Love these reactions
Waiting For My Ruca
Caress Me Down
Get Ready
Doin Time
Smoke 2 Joints
What I Got
Date Rape
Wrong Way
Santeria
Garden Grove
Badfish
In no particular order. Just some great songs by Sublime
They are ska, reggae, punk, etc rolled into one...
This is pretty cool 😎. You guys are awesome by the way. Keeping my morale up
Hey what’s up! Discovered you guys from bill burr reactions! I just wanna say I love this song and am glad you reacted to it 😃
You did 2 of my suggestions! Thanks fam!
Great reaction as always. Pawn Shop is a great song. You should react to 40oz to freedom, smoke two joints, waiting for my rica, baddish, scarlet begonias, wrong way, or doing time.
Bahahaha "it kinda has a Bob Marley feel to it". Ya know, I just discovered the "Reaction videos " a month ago. I so far am for one so humbled that some one not from the dominant to listen to Rock. I am for one not white nor black. I am a Native American and I go on RUclips alot to listen to Native music all the time. I put it on my JVL bluetooth and my music follows me all over my house and yard. I have been listening to you and most "Reactors" that are watching my movies or the music I listen to. Being not white I have a different opinion about some stuff, but when you said it was "similar" to Bob Marley, you hit the nail on the head. Sublime was Reggae.
Sublime! Let's go! It's an ode to Pawn Shops ;) "Bad Fish" next
I know as a stoner I'm supposed to like certain bands, but man, real talk Sublime had it
Sublime is very much in the Reggae genre, as are other rock bands, including the Police... try "Walking on the Moon" by the Police.
Sounds like they're jamming at the pawn shop🔥🎶🔥
I hope y’all do some more Sublime! They’re my #1. Garden Grove is a great one. Awesome reaction as always y’all! ☮️&❤️
You guys did 2 reactions to Angelina Jordan 7 months ago and haven't reacted to her since. You are missing out on the making of a Legend! She wowed you with I Put a spell on you and Whitney Houston. Then nothing. She won Norways got talent at 8 yr sing Billy Holiday's Gloomy Sunday & I'm a Fool to Want You followed by Nancy Sinatra's Bang, Bang and Finishing with Hamerstien's Summertime going viral. She exploded in America with her Hauntingly Beautiful rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody at 13 yr! The band Queen responded, 'Wow!, What a rendition! She has been on some of the biggest stages, best bands, orchestras and musicians in the world, Raised millions for children and the Environment, sung for Obahma, Quincy Jones etc... Just dropped one of her best covers of Adele's All I Ask last week. One of her best! IMO. You are missing out!
He use to pawn his guitar and his mates used to get it out when they had to play
7:14 the moment you guys miss'in joint, well enjoy it 👍🏻👍🏻 😁
Bad fish is another sublime song that talks about his addiction
Sublime is ska, which is a mix between Punk, Reggae, and Latin themes.
Rip Bradley💙
It’s a reimagined version of the reggae song “War Deh round a John Shop” by Wailing Souls
It is in fact a bob marley cover. His version was called "john shop"
Corey Taylor..snuff live version...PLEASE!!!... won't be disappointed.. love y'all!!! keep doing what you're doing
Jai knows what’s good
Heck yeah i love sublime so much. Badfish, 40oz to freedom, smoke two joints, august 26 1992, krs one, 5446 what's my number, let's go get stoned, what happened... all amazing songs. You can't really go wrong. Just avoid the acoustic album. Also, there's a track at the end of one of their albums where they thank their family friends and all their influences, I got introduced to a lot of great musicians just from that.
🔥🔥🔥🔥 .
Nice! I really liked that.
Ahhhhh Sublime, they just don't make em like this anymore. Miss them 😢
Yo! Finally some sublime
sublime is it's own genre
@ about 2:50 she realizes its just about the vibe and nothing else
Hey man, he’s at the pawn shop. Gotta get that money for some smoke! 😂
All half want to know is whats going on at the pawnshop 😑🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
