    Great tutorial. One thing that helps is unweighting just before you hit the kerb. Kind of like when you unweight to get over a crack in the street. It's a similar compression, then decompression/unweighting to a powerslide. For frontside in particular for me it's a pretty agressive carve pretty much to the point your toeside wheels are lifting up. If anyone is trying to learn them also look at another good slappy tutorial by skate hacks as that helped me. And Zach Dowdy's tutorial as well.

      “Unweighting” is a good term - as an aside, when I was in my late teens skating a lot of street (and probably smoking a lil too much ((I’m 42 now)) unweighting became an obsession in my mind.
      In short, I became somewhat convinced that achieving /limited/ zero-G was possible in skateboarding.
      When you let skating get properly into your mind and body, it can do strange things.
      Now working on building a garden mini ramp for my daughter. My knees are going, but hopefully slappys and skating vicariously will keep me going also.

    I can get my front truck on but not my rear truck. Been trying for a week. It looks like so much fun! I'll keep trying.

    This whole session looked so fun. I’m misting getting back on my board after 18 yrs. I’ve progressed enough to board slide down rails at my local but can’t unlock slappies for the life of me. Gonna give this information a shot. Thanks!

      you can slide down handrails but cant slappy?

    • @sway_onthetrail
      @sway_onthetrail 9 месяцев назад

      @@chrhadden I'm the same way. Have hit many handrails, have no idea how to consistently get onto something without popping. The era of skating I grew up in was all about popping tricks high, no one was really doing slappys and even wallrides generally had a kickflip into them. Because of that, never learned how to slappy or wallride until now.

    I struggled with the bs version of this trick and had a break through by loading my weight on my toe side wheel when I slap on. It gets your front truck on and sets up your back truck not to wille grind. The curbs I've been practising on are skatepark many pads with angle on them so they are full right angle with a lip at the bottom from the angle iron and tricky to slappy . That toe wheel pivot thing has been gold for me, it works on all curbs and is something to focus on if you're struggling to mount.

      thanks for this, i was trying them this morning on exactly the same obstacle (not ideal i guess)and having trouble, the edge really digs in right?

    I learned these so I can be pressure flip out of, I have every pressure flip variation on lock, now I'm trying to get all slappy grinds to mix up my skating some. Use this as a learning experience so when I go to Ollie up rails and shit I already have the grind and the pressure flips out. I'm really trying to work on slappy smith grinds

    BS I’ve got down pretty consistent but it’s FS that is killing me right now. Playing with different angles but it’s more the “buck” that happens going in front side. Going to try to wall ride into it a bit more rather than power slide.
