Mark is the Bob Ross of nature photographers, and embodies the maxim that it's not the gear, it's the stories and the pictures that make a good photographer.
Your videos are like a drug without the side effects. Mark Smith videos always take me to my "happy place". The world needs more of this, thank you for giving so much in spite of personal losses.
Loved this series so much. The chicks are just so adorable I can hardly stand it. Those little wings get me every time. My favorite was the one where the chick fell backwards with the fish on top of him and his little legs are in the air. Oh my goodness cuteness overload. These pictures where also extremely sharp and the exposure was perfect. It was like I could see every speck of sand.
I wish that the video was longer, so I could enjoy stunning nature story images and videos for a longer time. These days , when we are stuck at home and not allowed to travel, images like that, or scenes from the beach are so much appreciated. I love every shot you captured. They are so sharp, showing your excellent skills. The blue background and white bird look so incredible. And the cute, tiny, and so funny babies in action :) Could easily watch them forever. Thank you for sharing with us, it is a very enjoyable video and your narrative is simply great.
So true ,when I see a new video alert popup from Mark I know I'm going to be taken on a journey and it'll be a wonderful 10 minutes. This channel goes way beyond photography.
I love your storytelling, both with your awesome photos, as well as your enthusiastic descriptions. Whenever I see that there’s a new video on your channel, I know that it’s going to be a relaxing and enjoyable evening after the kids are asleep.
One thing I really like to share here. I love photography and I do, but it's a very expensive thing to carry on but this guy really fulfill the gap between a photographer's dream and his boundation. Thank you Mark for sharing and telling the stories to us. Thank you again.
You are an amazing story teller with your camera Mr. Mark. Its a wonderful job that you are doing. your videos really helped me in many ways. I admire you Mark
Mark, I love your pictures and I enjoy your commentary. I don't know anything about photography, but you're peeking my interest. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos very much.
Just awesome !! You have got an eye for such minute details on the lives of birds, coupled with your beautiful narration, which makes your video very interesting.
You are such an inspiring artist Mark! I have been using the Sony A7R III for 2y, and I just added to my gear the Sony A7R IV, Sony A9 II and Sony 600mm f/4. I came to your channel to find good examples of what can be done with combinations of these, and found exactly what I wanted in this video. Thank you! This was also a perfect respite from my aching 600mm f/4 shoulder! :) Haha!
Mark, I hope you don’t mind me asking, but I am trying to get my 600mm f/4 to work like my 100-400GM, in terms of zooming in while I manually focus with DMF. Why does my 100-400 do this, while my 600mm does not? I’m using my A9 II now, but pretty sure this also happens with my A7R IV. Thank you. Or, thank you to others who want to answer my question! :)
With so many things going around and even at home Mark I appreciate your resilience. Very good work. Please keep doing it. It helps so many others who cannot. Thank you Mark
The part where you mentioned not knowing the egg was there reminds me of when I was managed to get a photo of a killdeer crouched close to the ground. Its wings were partly open which gave a good view of the pattern on the feathers. When I reviewed the photo on the PC, only then did I notice two well camouflaged eggs under its breasts. Thanks for the awesome video.
Great video with your images and comments! Loved all of the pics, especially the one with the tern coming out of the wave (4.08) and the parent/baby food exchanges The one with the egg is funny. I have already watched this a second time and I am sure I will watch it again. Fascinating. Cool how the chicks blend into the sand, All so cute
Awesome video! You captured some really nice shots. I recently visited a beach here in Florida with nesting terns & skimmers. The babies are so adorable but not get as many great photos as you.
This is my 1st time watching one of Mark's videos & I absolutely loved it. I look forward to watching more now that I've subscribed. Wish I had his eye for a photo, I have a friend who is that way. She can see a weed & make it look like a beautiful flower. Thank you Mark for these adorable bird babies, I'm sure I'll watch again.
Hi Mark. fantastic work...as usual. Really nice sets of shots. I've never known or seen baby birds at the beach and how they are fed. Really interesting. However as you know I am a wing man, and your flight shots are simply spectacular. The geometry displayed in the different shots are great, and amazing. It feels good to me to see your work because it really is educational as well as, entertaining. Really nice work...again.
Mark you are crafting some amazing images and producing consistently absolutely amazing videos and photographs your work is inspiring. Thanks for sharing your expertise and your setup guide is a great tool and helped me to get instant success 😍👍
Great shots and narration Mark. We have a Least Tern colony on Outback Key/Fort DeSoto (St Pete) that also provided some great photo ops this season....love these chicks. Keep up the awesome work and drive over to this coast some time.
Mark Smith Migration has started! Seeing reports (and pix) of B&W, Prairie, and Yellow-Throated in the area so should be fun. Good luck on your adventures.
Georgous ! Guess these babies will be predated by something? Not sorry that you missed that though.... and technical question how do you keep the sand out of you gear?
You are so tuned in to the birds. It amazes me that you could do this on your first try. Also thank you for displaying your aperture, ss and iso, very helpful. I am trying to teach myself manual based on your settings. I am urban and indoors, it makes me happy that you are not.
Exquisite images, Mark! My favorite one was @4:40. By the way, why do you think they returned after 40 years in that area? Less people now due to covid or something like that?
Mark It looks like you are on Ft Myers Beach on the west coast! So many nesting least terns there! Or do you have a beach on the east coast where they nest?? Amazing shots!!
Another amazing video that you have created. Top notch work. Beautiful images and a great narration. These photos seem to be extra sharp and look amazing wondering if you use different gear or maybe different editing software or technique? Maybe you could do a video about how you process these images they're totally amazing.

My favorite one was @4:40.
By the way, why do you think they returned after 40 years in that area? Less people now due to covid or something like that?
