The thing about sleepovers is SO true in India. As a daughter, my parents would only let me have friends come to our house, but there were no such rules for my brother. I was annoyed about this in college, but honestly as I got to my late 20’s and now early 30’s and have nieces and nephews, I am really starting to get it lol! They’re tiny beautiful awesome humans that need to be protected at all costs!! 💕
In hindsight, I would be at least as protective of a boy. The perceived dangers aren’t significantly less for boys.

Seriously that is a mom who cares and knows that things happen in other people's homes that would shock you so yes you need to sweep the home where your child is spending the night because monitoring levels are different in every household. Some parents are surprisingly lenient with their children.😮

We all have to learn how to manage fears and still be able to go out and explore the wonderful world. We can ask ourselves "is this reasonable?" and "Have I taken appropriate precautions?" The oldest child often has a hard time bc they are the icebreaker for the family! Love to all of you!

As an immigrant mom myself , having kids of the same age and having had boat loads of friends from all walks of life during my growing period shaped me as a person immensely and has taught me about who I want to be , what I don’t want to be or not be and the acceptance of complexities of human behavior . I can write an essay about it but will say this, if the mindset of a kid is to prosper, everything is a lesson!

Hi Zarna, I totally agree with you. The kids dont understand that if they make a mistake we will be dragged down together with them. As a single mother, I have a tough time also telling the same advice to my son. They tend to compare their life's with us. At the end of the day, I just realized they are not grateful at all.

We base our lives on the best and most effective aspects of our culture. It is challenging and requires knowing when to bend a d when not to bend. Zoya, brij , veer trust me, the world around is not a good place in today's time. This privacy might lead to you guys having one bad situation which you might not have foreseen which may make things worse. I love you gals and guys. I am in agreement with your parents. However, I understand that kids these days don't view the many levels of safety as we parents do. We were once unconcerned like them but as we matured our priorities and views changed. One day the kids will mature and thank you both for all that you have instilled in them. Friends are good if they encourage you to be your best self and vice versa. Kids need to socialize and learn to exist amongst their peers. Unfortunately, kids have to learn some of life's hard lessons to appreciate the guidance they get from their parents. Keep up the good work Zarna gang!

Zoya and her stats!! 😃 But jokes apart I do agree, its really important who you are friends with.. like what kind of ppl.. coz it does have an effect on us voluntarily or involuntarily. We tend to pick up stuff and it becomes part of our personality in one way or another. And given the world we are in today and people are quite good at covering their actual self behind their social media profiles, you should really "know" the person before actually trusting someone to be a friend. And yes.. Veer does sound like the one with most clarity for his age.. my A+ goes to him
