The King’s Life Guard
The King’s Life Guard is conducted by soldiers of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Horse Guards. Horse Guards is named after the troops who have mounted The King’s Life Guard here since the Restoration of King Charles II in 1660.
The ceremony has remained mostly unchanged for over 350 years.
Changing of The King's Life Guard
The ceremony of changing of the King’s Life Guard starts at 11am with the Old Guard formed up on Horse Guards Parade. As the New Guard arrives, a trumpeter sounds a royal salute and the officer salutes. The New Guard forms up facing the old one.
Once both lines are still, the corporal major, senior non-commissioned officer and sentries of the New Guard (the first relief) rein back their horses and leave for the guard room to take over their duties, which lasts for 48 hours. The sentries from the Old Guard return to the parade ground and the entire Old Guard returns back to barracks.
When the monarch is in London, there is a ‘long guard’ consisting of an officer, corporal major (who carries the regimental standard), two non commissioned officers, a trumpeter and 10 troopers. When the monarch is away, the guard is reduced to two non-commissioned officers and 10 troopers known as a ‘short guard’.
Whatever the season or weather, members of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment ride down from Hyde Park Barracks in Knightsbridge to take over guard duties.
TIMINGS OF DUTIES
The Guard Change currently takes place on: Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11am.
The two iconic soldiers on horses that mount duty on Whitehall at the entrance of Horse Guards change on the hour every hour from 10am until 4pm.
This ensures that, regardless of the time you choose to visit the museum, you are guaranteed a captivating spectacle of ceremonial duties in progress.

The sign says, "Don'r touch the horse" and yet these karens are still doing it!! The guards need to enforce it!!
It looks like they changed the signs this morning, but omitted to tell the Guards the rules about not touching the reins had been changed to not touching the horses. How embarrassing for the Guards!

Not much point in having a sign that says don't touch the horse if the guard is going to turn a blind eye. At about 7minutes in one guy looked like he was holding the bridle and still the guard said nothing. Then they wonder why the horses start nipping, when tourists are constantly mauling the horse.

These tourists should read the sign in front of them if they need help with it there is an application on there phone to put it in there languages. Wait until the Asian people give peace signs, and thumbs up, and also other people think they are models while taking pictures of themselves. Sorry London I am an American, I see what goes on around here with our soldiers and it is terrible at the least
Problem # 1: most of these tourist can not read English and Problem #2: they just don’t care what the signs say! They are a tourist, they paid to visit London and by Gosh they are going to get their monies worth! It’s going to take a long time to stop what has been allowed for a long time! Good zluck!

The signs were put up overnight, and the Blues and Royals only came on late this afternoon . It's possible ,they don't know yet. I would give it a few days yet to see if there are any repercussions.

That word is so overused it’s lost its original meaning, and tourists get so excited when they see something they lose their manners and don’t pay attention to signs. A lady or a man walks up to one of the horses and touches the horse or reigns and the guard tells them no, but the tourist smiles, says ok and does it anyway. THAT’S a Karen.

Wonderful change! Looking forward to seeing it enforced so that the horses are left alone. That said a few of the horses have loved the pats from tourists, and in ways it might be more confusing to some horses that loads of people just stand and look at them all day without showing them, the horses, that they are friendly. But mostly it's really a huge improvement.

Why are the guards letting people touch the horses. He should be telling them not to touch the horse. Or have the patrolling police come out and also say something or take down the signs. I don’t know what video you are watching but I have seen very few people touching the horses & I agree with whoever said some of the horses like to be petted & I bet they wonder why no one is paying any attention to them.

They need a round picture sign of a black horse on a white background with a diagonal slash through the picture, or some such likeness. People can claim ignorance on not being able to read, but not on not being able to figure out the sign.

It’s about time to save the horse who stands in one place for one hour at the Kings Guards quarters London. The tourists scratch, pet, fondles the horses. Sometimes two or three people touching the horse’s nose, mouth, and head! No wonder some horses bite hair, clothes, arms, hands, handbags and fingers in return. These horses stand at 18 hands. Sometimes I have watched parents place their small children in front of the animals as well ! - Then stand back to take a photo! These horses are still able to be spooked, and I suppose a horse can be in a good mood, or irritable mood. At any moment the horse can literally take off. So, for Gods sake, take yr photo and quickly stand aside!

I would suspect that the don’t touch the horse is more of a legal bum cover, if the idiots get bitten, they can point out the double warning of horses bite and kick and it clearly states don’t touch. You could have as many signs as possible but they will still rein grab, maul and stick their fingers near the horses mouth teasing it or when the horses head swing and nip at them they’ll just laugh and stand there 🤦♀️

It's really a miracle that none of the horses, soldiers or tourists have been seriously injured as a result of tourists doing stupid things to the horses.
