- 1. Grab your favourite book. Go to the acknowledgements, and the first name you see, find a book by an author with the same name.
2. Pick something on that cover and find another book with the thing in the title.
3. Go to page 50, line 5. Pick a word from that line and find a title with that word.
4. Find a 5-star read with the same colours on the cover.

"I was going for it but I got distracted by joy" best sentence I've heard someone say this year 💜
video series idea: read books with the same word in the title and the same genre, same as just did horror books with the word house 😂
This idea if buzz world readathon
It's always a fun time hanging out with you, whether you like the books or not.
When you mentioned you were doing this again I went back to rewatch your previous hunt and tried to do my own and it went worse than you could possibly imagine 😂 for the prompt about counting letters in book titles I landed on a book with THIRTY-EIGHT LETTERS. So you can imagine how fun that was. And for the one about finding a name on a page and finding an author with that name I landed on a fantasy book with only fully made-up names. And I did the final word search legit like 25 times and did not find a SINGLE WORD that existed in a book title 💀 safe to say I did not find a book to read lmao.
😂 what an adventure.
oh wow!
I’m sorry that you didn’t love the books! I do think it would be really interesting to see the stats on how many of your 10 out of 10 first chapters end up as 5⭐️ or just their range of rating in general!
Hi I'm a Julie! My next reading vlog is reading from authors that have my name and I've had to expand it to Julias as well because there are so few of us lol
Omg I love it!!
You just convinced me to subscribe to you 🙏 I'm too curious about how your vlog turns out
OMG- you HAVE to do more of these Kayla. I scavenged right alongside you today and had a BLAST! I'm addicted to this lol
In a moment of pure drama I was watching this video during a thunder storm and the power flicked and my tv turned out right at the moment Kayla said "ready" and pointed at the book my tv turned off. I had to wait a moment and see if that was a dramatic editing thing or just the tech malfunctioning - what spontaneous fun!
😅😅😅
This is so fun! If you want an excuse to read some of the new books you just bought there's a readathon the last two weeks of June called New Book Knockout
😎💖
So much fun to watch and participate in 😊
1. Dear Edward by Ann Napolitano ❤
2. Hendrix - so The Final Book Support Group by Grady Hendrix
3. Chair on cover so... The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kid
4. "Brother" - Brother by Ania Ahlborn
5. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Bird Box by Josh Malerman
6. 262 pages - Crispin : The Cross of Lead by Avi
7. After lots of new pages due to the unusual character names I landed on John - A Prayer For Owen Meany by John Irving
8. 19 letters!!! So difficult! Robopocalypse : A Novel by Daniel Wilson (written on the spine so that's what I went with.)
9. Similar cover - Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor (A perfect cover match!!!)
10. "Of"!!! So many choices 😮 I'm thinking about picking one of my big book or intimidating reads. A Column of Fire by Ken Follett or way outside my comfort zone - an adult fantasy- The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi by Shannon Chakraborty.
Go with Amina!! Such a great read!
Woo I love these! 😌 I’m barely awake post nap so my own hunt is going to have to wait a second haha. 😅
🤗🤗🤗
Tripping over the table book haha! The stars really had to align for that. Maybe in good fortune for the local beet farmer! 👩🌾 ✨
This was so much fun to follow along with! My books were
- The Mask of Mirrors by MA Carrick- The first name I saw was Kyle and I couldn't find anything but the next name was Emily
- Happy Place by Emily Henry - people swimming on the cover
- People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry - pg 50 line 5 is "What's you problem with it? It's a great place to grow up."
- The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah - Orange cover with mountains
- Something Wild & Wonderful by Anita Kelly - 384 pages
- The Fool, The Lovers, The Devil by Riley Quinn - 24 letters in title (💀)
- The Priory of The Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon - Colorful dragon cover
- A Day of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon - The first word I saw was Love.
All of that work to find a book with the word love in the title, I have so many options lol. I might pick one of these next:
- The True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren
- A Cosmic Kind of Love by Samantha Young
- The Love Wager by Lynn Painter
Obviously I don’t know your taste but the true love experiment was a 5 for me!!
* Favourite Book jar of hearts: alice
* Alice feeny Daisy darker:home on cover
* Home before dark: a (it was a short line and I didn’t own a book with any of the other words lol)
* A good marriage: same colours as the island

* Katherine: no one will miss her by kat (katherine) rosenfield
* 16 letters: The last time I lied
* Similar cover: things we do in the dark
* Have: Never Have I ever by Joshilyn Jackson
I’m gonna choose to ignore that because I don’t wanna read it😃. This was super fun!
I haaaated that book, but I'm so happy you played along 🙊💕
@@BooksandLala 😂I remember watching you read it and being so sad when u hated it lmfao. I think the butcher by that author has much more mass appeal (I feel like everyone loves it including me). Jar of hearts is decently controversial but personally I loved it. Plus it’s fun to support a Canadian author since I live in Vancouver!
I kinda love the thick, layered necklace look with the casual tee. ♥️
I love the look of the thick gold necklace with your hair color. Its giving book goddess.
as someone who gets 95% of their books from the library, this was quite a feat of contortion 😅 but i ended up with "I Who Have Never Known Men" so i suppose i'll request *that* from the library and read it when it comes in. doesn't do anything for my physical tbr tho whoops
Enjoyed the vlog, as always! You don’t feel the need to apologize for sharing about other parts of your life and family :) it’s comforting and fun to hear you talk
Twelve Nights in Rotter House is so good with the most amazing twist!
It was a lot of fun going through my shelves!

This is fun :)

I'll Give You the Sun - gave me Carol (in the dedication, my edition didn't have acknowledgements)
Tell the Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt - gave me (from my edition of the cover)
Here's Looking at You - I had to pick "the"
The Gracekeepers - same blue-ish cover
The Brothers Lionheart (Bröderna Lejonhjärta) - at 228 pages
Lord of Flies - (I didn't have either Roger or Jack, but I went for a John)
Lilla Stjärna (Little Star) by John Ajvide Lindquist - 12 letters
American Gods - My edition is red with a tree on the cover

Ninth House➡️AMY
For Her Consideration-AMY Spalding➡️Her Body & Other Parties
“an island off the coast of Georgia. We drifted in water as warm as”➡️ Warm Up by V.E Schwab (gold/red/black)
House of Hunger(304pgs)➡️ Half Baked Murder (Chloe)
Chloe Liese- Always Only You(13)➡️ The Spite House
House on cover➡️ The House in the Cerulean Sea
My bf picked out the words ‘Look’ and ‘Her’ and I’ve chosen Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward & The End Of Her by Shari Lapena! This was so much fun and took longer than I expected, highlighting even more the amount of effort you put into your content!🥹 Thank you for the fun TBR challenge!🩷
From Autumn to Ashes is an old love that I started listening to again ❤
Yessss I *just* added Sugar Wolf and Streamline back into my daily playlist and it brings me such joy !!
This was so fun! This is my first time doing one of the Scavenger hunt tbrs, and I don't have a huge physical library so I did a little stretching, but I ended up getting there!
1. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (I have many favorite books, that one was the closest)
2. Christopher, so I grabbed Everyone Brave is Forgiven by Chris Cleave
3. London on the cover, but I stretched it and looked for a city. I got the City of Thirst by Carrie Ryan and John Parke Davis
4. Real, but I stretched it a bit and grabbed Really Truly Ruthie by Valerie Tripp
5. Awkward by Svletana Chmakova because the two main characters are wearing pink and green on the cover, just like on Really Truly Ruthie.
6. 224 pages, the same as the Clueless Girl's Guide to being a Genius by Janice Repka
7. The first two names on the page were Miss Snipal and Mr. DeGuy, neither of which I had. But using the third name, Adam, I got to Sierra Summer from the Annette series, illustrated by Adam Szwejkowski
8. Sierra Summer is twelve letters, so is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas
9. The cover has two people facing away from each other looking kinda scared with someone spooky in the background, and so does the cover for Iron Tide Rising
10. I pointed at the word Water, so the book from my physical tbr I'll be reading is Water Song by Suzanne Weyn!
I tried to follow your prompts,
1. I started at Nettles by Adam Scovell since thats my most recent favorite book
2. from the acknowledgements I went with Foundryside by Robert Jackson Bennett
3. From the cover I picked found Fire and ice from Erin Hunter (yes thats a warrior cats book lol)
4. from the sentence I got I picked they cause thats an easy one lol and then decided on They both die at the end by Adam Silvera
5. The cover that I have of that books is orange and blue and while not an exact match i went with mr penumbra's 24 hour bookstore
6. that has 288 pages and i was really struggling so i took it quite liberally and picked something around 300 pages and went with geekerella
7. The name I got was Catherine and I don't have anything by an author with the name Catherine so I went to goodreads and just picked Snowed In by Catherine Walsh
8. The title has 8 letters so I picked Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
9. Next was to pick something with a similar cover and perhaps this is cheating but I just picked Godsgrave from the same series
10. and then my hand landed on ministry at first which I don't have anything with so I tried again and got rising, I thought I didnt have anything with this on my TBR but I do actually, it was Rising storm by Erin Hunter which is yet again a warrior cats book except this is the fourth one and i have not even read the third one. I guess it might finally be time to continue reading warrior cats lol.
This was SO fun! I followed along via my Kindle and Goodreads ... just lost my text trail by clicking the wrong darn key. I went from Demon Copperhead ... landed on the final book: The Sleeping Car Porter. (word: "sleep").
Great video - I ended up with Triflers Need Not Apply (Need) being the word. I got there via I’m glad my mom died, Less, The good neighbours, Small things like these, Under the whispering door, Hamnet, Frankenstein, The Secretary, What Lies Between Us.
I just read Twelve Nights at Rotten House last month and enjoyed it quite a bit.
- Doughnut Econmics
- The Noonday Demon
- A Farewell to Arms
- A Court of Silver Flames
- Dark Age (had to flip through so many pages here to find a non ancient greek name)
- Parable of the Sower
- Gathering Darkness
- The Assasin's Blade
- HER Soul for Revenge
The necklace looks good, but it’ll probably look better with a dress or something more dressed up.
"my friend and enemy goodreads" relatable 😅
started with Love from A to Z and ended up with The Three-Body Problem, passed by books such as peter pan, Mistborn hahaha it was fun to follow along

i always love the scavenger hunt!!! it's always so entertaining to sort of kind of follow along with YOUR prompts (because i'm too lazy to get up and look at my books, i just do the thought experiment of like 'hm i probably also have a 16 letter title somewhere')

I won't actually be reading that as I just picked Yellowface up from the library and I'm really excited to start that. This was so much fun, I hope you keep doing this every year.

It’s crazy. I accidentally skipped the find a book with the same page number prompt so I had to do it twice. Both times the book the prompts told me to read off my TBR ended up being Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister and then you pulled it hoping to read it…. I guess I’m reading it now lol
Ended up with The, sooo, just picked the first one I saw which was The Lost Apothecary. Looks like that's next for me !
It was a process for sure but eventually led me to The Devil Takes You Home!

I need to do this scavenger hunt but every time I play with my TBR I always end up with a book I can’t get into 🙃
When I saw you pull Wrong Place, Wrong Time I got super excited because I'm currently half way through the audiobook and am really enjoying it!
You are so creative with your videos. And your personality is so fun. I was so anxious by the time you finally successfully picked your book! 😩 😂
Not me trying to figure out the recipe for the braised beets... I love everything you mentioned in it.
Super interesting to me that St. Ambrose is YA in Canada because it's being pushed out as adult in the US.
Oh now that's interesting!!
This concept was fun! I wish you had enjoyed the books better, but I loved watching you choose.
I love these scavenger hunt videos so much 😍 when you were looking for a Julie I was screaming at the screen “Julia Bartz!!!!” the author of The Writing Retreat hahaha 😂
I did the scavenger hunt with you and my next book will be She Come By It Natural (Natural was my final word from prompt 9) -it is a book about Dolly Parton by Sarah Smarsh. The scavenger hunt was entertaining for sure.
I was not prepared to hear my full name. Thanks for letting me know there's a Jessica Ward to check out books from!
Even though I wish that it didn't sound like something I would want to put down too, lol.
Perfect timing, couldn’t figure out what to read next. I ended up with…
📖 In my Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead
on my TBR from a previous video!👍🏻
when i got to the last prompt, i opened to a page that just said “Part 2”. luckily i have a book on my shelf that’s called Boy Parts on my shelf, so i’m going to give that a go. but since i felt like that was too cheap, i went again and found the word ‘of’ and chose Portrait of a Thief as well. and i’m also going to attempt to read The Shadow Glass since I picked it up for the second prompt and i haven’t read it and it’s the only book i picked up in the entire scavenger hunt that i haven’t read
I played along and used Watch Over Me by Nina Lacour as the last prompt, and remembered in the process that it was the book I ended up choosing the LAST time you did one of these videos! the book I got on my TBR is Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon 😊

Ahh this is fun!!
- Favorite book this year was the 9th and final book of The Expanse, Leviathan Falls > First name I saw was Danny.
- I haven't read any books by a Danny apparently, but I HAVE read a book by Dani Bennett (Master of One)
- There was a leaf on the cover of Master of One > Leaf Peepers (short horror comic by Mark Bouchard).
- Page 50 was the very last page, and the fifth line was a song in the author's playlist : "Burning Desire To Draw Last Breath" Gulch > I chose Last > One Last Stop (Casey McQuiston)
- One Last Stop is very pink, so I chose a very pink comic I loved called Don't Go Without Me (Rosemary Valero-O'Connell)
- Don't Go Without Me is 116 pages > I haven't read anything else that's 116 pages but A Spindle Splintered (Alix E. Harrow) is 119 pages
- Opened A Spindle Splintered and the first name I saw was Charm > Couldn't find anything I had read by someone called Charm, but Charmaine yes so I bent it a bit > Charmaine Wilkerson > Black Cake
- Black Cake is 9 letters > Mooncakes (comic by Wendy Xu and Suzanne Walker)
- The cover of Mooncakes features multiple people, food, a simple abstract yellow background > Similar to Meal (Blue Deliquanti)
- Flipped to a random page and pointed the word Street > The Last House on Needless Street has a short wait at the library and is on my TBR, so we're going with that!!
Thank you for the game, it was so fun
I started with Dead Witch Walking which gave me Diana, this led me to Outlander which gave me a thistle, I couldn't find a book with thistle in title so I cheated a bit and went with series name which was The Witches of Thistle Grove (payback's a witch). The line was at All, this gave me Turtles All ths Way Down which meant orange cover, this led to A Court of Silver Flames with 757 pages, the only book with that number was Dracula and other Horror Stories with had Jonathan, turns out Jonathan isn't an author name so shortened to John which went to Giant Days with 9. Allegiant was my result with a feather on cover, End of Days was next which gave me the word 'see' which is also hard to find. Soooooo I'm reading Demon Seed by Dean Koontz
I went from:
1. Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao to
2. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross (this promt was HARD) to
3. I Hope You Get This Message by Farah Naz Rishi to
4. When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole to
5. Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs (255 p)
6. Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by Caitlin Doughty (Mike)
7. Hellboy by Mike Mignola (7)
8. Revelle by Lyssa Mia Smith (woman-performer on a chandelier like structure)
9. Where Dreams Descent by Janella Angeles -> dark
10. so my next read is Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake
What fun! Here’s my adventure:
1. Iron widow -> Rebecca
2. Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse -> mouth
3. Death in the Mouth: Original Horror by People of Color -> dark
4. The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein -> pink
5. The Future of Another Timeline -> 340 pages
6. Wild Beauty -> Dahlia
7. It’s a Whole Spiel (Dahlia Adler’s a contributor, it’s the best I could do) -> 14
8. Catherine House -> blue/purple with abstract floral motifs
9. Sorrowland -> of
10. A Sisterhood of Secret Ambitions!
