Do Churches Help the Homeless?

  • One thing every Christian FAILS at is caring for the poor. We all know we are supposed to love and care for the poor, because the Bible says to do it. Christ commands it. But many times it seems too overwhelming for Christians. Most Christians are not taught 'HOW' to care for the poor, neither by their church or Pastor. And therefore they don't understand the value in it.
We made this video to encourage Christians to focus more on the poor. Not because we 'have' to, but because it's something direct in harmony with mind and soul. If we continue to ignore the homeless, we jeopardize our full understanding and appreciation of the Gospel as God intended.

My Mom always told me to not waste your money giving to the homeless. I didn't listen to them at all. I mostly give my money to the homeless. I care about everyone and everything. I love helping the homeless and being friends with them. i have at least 13 Homeless friends that I talk to and talk about Christ.

I really appreciate your generosity toward the homeless. We should love ,care and help each other as the disciples in the book of Acts did. Christian are suppose to propagate love and kindness in this way Jesus said people will know that we are His follower. God bless you to help them more.

I help the homeless by giving them food, water and I talk to them about Jesus. Some people tell me not to give them food because they will end up selling food for drugs. But I will continue to give them food, water and Bible pamphlets..but I will not give them money.

Don't preach to the homeless they are fully aware of God. You need to offer them hope guidance resources that can assist them in finding housing job training drug rehab . May I suggest to those that feed the homeless that u require them to maybe help in setting up washing dishes help clean up after everybody is fed .. give them a purpose no matter how small it is .. this starts them on the road to recovery responsibly ..and for those who refuse to help then feed them once and ask never to come back unless the wanna start taking responsibility for there own self..

@@ccarta192 I think I like the OP's approach better. You have good ideas, but to make it so conditional that they mess up once or are not "willing" to help out means they never again get any help is NOT the way to encourage them to get better. Tough love won't work in situations where someone is battling depression or things like it that may make it hard for them to even get up the motivation to become part of a group effort. And withdrawing your help because they were being apparently "stubborn and lazy" will just confirm their fears about people all along, that no one really cares and can't be trusted. That's the LAST thing they need!! They need to see that people see them as worth the effort and their concern is genuine. Then you can start encouraging them to pitch in, explaining that everyone - including them - is needed and making them feel included and valued.

I remember my husband and I were homeless, sleeping on the streets, and we slept in front of a church on a walkway that ran around the front of the church against the wall. I woke up and had to pee really bad, so I went in the bushes (it was early in the morning and still dark, I didn't think anyone would be up in the townhomes across the street. But somebody was, obviously saw me and called, because not too long after, a couple of cops stopped by and talked with us. They were very nice, didn't fine or arrest us or anything, but they said somebody called and complained about someone "exposing themselves". Soon after, we noticed that the lights on that front walkway were on constantly - and bright! Another church allowed us to stay in a trailer in their parking lot. One day, we went to a friend's house to do laundry and watch anime. He drove us back to the trailer and we dropped off our stuff and then went to McDonald's for a bite. When we walked back to the church, we saw that the trailer that had our stuff in it, including our fresh laundry, was GONE! Someone had swiped the whole trailer. All of our stuff was gone! Yeah, fortunately, they had a second trailer that they did let us stay in, but they didn't help us get new clothes, or invite us in to a service on Sunday. Eventually, the people who ran that little ministry packed it up and moved away. Fortunately, we were able to go to a motel. And to be fair, church people have helped us, which is good, but like you said, too many have forgotten about our duty to care for the poor. It's sad, but true!

When I was homeless in Seattle, I slept in a total of 6 different churches at night. They fed us a snack at night, gave us a mat and blankets to sleep with and breakfast in the morning before we left for the day. One of those was a Jewish Temple that was warm and quiet and safe. I felt loved when I was in there. I am Catholic, I do what I can to pay it all forward. Donating to the food banks and homeless shelters is a great way to do that. Love does not cost you anything.

Every 3 Saturday of every month, my youth group goes to a church in Monroe Louisiana, the church is called The Assembly South, and we feed thousands of people. What I do is I get a shopping cart with the persons food and bring it to their ride or the bus stop. It's very hot out there but it is worth it

The churches don’t do anything because they forgot why they collect money. In the early church they shared everything. (Acts 4:32) A new building project is what’s on their minds. Churches could open up their sanctuaries every night and let folks sleep there. They don’t because they really don’t care. That’s the answer.

The homeless are reviled for the litter and trash they surround themselves with. And churches and other do-gooders give out tons of one use goods and containers. Homeless have no problem bringing full containers to their camps, but some how are unable to carry the same empty containers out to a trash can. Talk to homeless people? I was homeless. I remember good Christians trying to help. And I remember the whole camp roaring drunk around a fire all night, after the Christians left.

Thanks for sharing This is sad but so beautiful at the same time. The government is killing us. We need to stick together as brothers and sisters in the name of Jesus. Me and my family of four are homeless at the time living with our client/family member. We're blessed, how ever It's so hard to not feel like a burden to our cousin everyday that passes. I do cook, clean and help around the apartment. We buy our own food and things we need, but it's still hard to save money fast enough to get our own. Our kids are home schooled and always with us, so it's hard to not feel like we're always around. We've been on our own at age 18 and 22 renting and payimg rent for others just to tell us how to live. Because it's their property it's ok. but it's my money!?but they don't see that. Plus living around a Community of ppl who can care less about you and your family and community as well. It's really sad. We just want to find peace and quiet and wait for Jesus to come for us all. Or world war 3 or the zombie apocalypse smh I just don't know what's coming but I'm working on getting ready in the name of Jesus. We careless what size our home is, a bird nest is just perfect as long as we're together. We are looking to buy a bus for something cheap that we can fix up because I feel we're out wearing our welcome and can't afford to loose our only income. All because of our living situation. Winter is coming up and can't have my family in the cold. Praying I know God is good all the time. We have come to a point in life where we see life as to short for everything to be about money and materials. It's about love and family. We want to just see the world God blessed us with and help others along the way. We're all enslaved to something I'm choosing the Lord and my family thank u very much! Now at 31 & 36 all I want for my birthday is a bus lol. November 4th I'll be 32. Off grid here we come I pray in the next few weeks we have our own Byrd's Nest! 😍😍😍😍 God Bless All 💞 hope all your dreams come true. Praying for our souls in the name of Jesus. We're thinking about vlogging our bus journey. Or rv whatever God blesses us with. Ok ok I'm done lol sorry just wanted to share our struggles because I know our father is still with us everyday. Even though we're not rich it's ok his love is all we need. God Bless All 💞

It's interesting because churches pray for people to have more money, nicer homes, etc. But a homeless person would be so incredibly grateful to even have a home. Yet I do not see 99% or more of these congregations reaching out AT ALL. Some places may do occasional soup kitchen, but that's as far as they go. And with so few shelters, I can't understand why some churches don't try to do anything. I want to have a church that does just that sort of thing.

Also, I just want to add that Christian people should open their homes to people who desperately need it. The Bible teaches to give what we have but it's obvious people don't really pay attention to that. I have a kid and I'm a single mother but as soon as I get a home, I'm helping people! Right now, I pay rent to stay with my Grandmother and I work for free just to get the experience to have a better job. I live on very little but I'm determined to do something and I hope others will too. And stop stereotyping the homeless. It can happen to almost anyone.

We had homeless make camp every evening under the awning of where I worked. We thought it a civic duty to allow them to use it, the water from the hose bib, and to plug into the outside outlet. One morning, as we opened for business, we politely asked them to break camp. They became angry and combative. One dedicated on the lot. After this, we turned off the water to the hose connection, shut off power to the outside outlets, and wetted down the area as part of our closing routine. If I went by and found someone under the awning, I would run them off THEY are the ones who blew it

Thank you for what you tried to do to help the homeless, unfortunately in every group you can have a few bad apple's that can spoil it for the bunch. But always remember that Everyone is not a like. Its when you help the poor and the Homeless that you get blessed.Your blessing can come back to you in many different ways.None of us are immune from becoming homeless.

Do the churches help? Some do. Many don't. Many don't want to. They don't want the poor to come to church. Jesus would not only invite the poor to church, he would invite them down to the front pew in honor!

help the homeless brothers and sisters, the people in the worship building is the body of Christ help them who are in need, and pastors stop making your self fat with gods tithe and feed his people , making big buildings you cannot build a house for god, when god is not in it, bring the poor in and worship with them let them sleep their and god Jesus will also be their wake up and stop lying to yourselves, read the holy scripture again, have the water ready to baptise and empty your pockets and humble yourself,

One thing people need to understand is that God does not dwell in buildings. The other is to know what a true Christian is! A Christian is one with the mind of Christ. A Christian does not need to be told what to do! A Christian knows the Father and does the Father’s will. My dear brother and sister remember what Christ said to the thief Judas ? “ YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE THE POOR, BUT YOU WILL NOT ALWAYS HAVE CHRIST.

Family, plz hear me with your hearts and not your flesh. The issue in this video is that you're not being transparent about the other side of the homeless coin. This community (of which I was and still am in love, thought and support a part). The dose of reality is that the homeless are a true risk!!!! MANY pastors/churches have been burned by the homeless. There is often a sense of entitlement and overkill with the homeless. To ONLY give the essentials ie house, food etc and NOT the necessities is ludicrous. Use your churches to educate and reignite their civility and humanity and willingness to get back in the fight of life. Drugs, psychosis, addiction and former felons. these issues have formed the hostility, disrespect etc they have developed. I've seen volunteers threatened, cursed out, hot coffee thrown on them and many more. I've witnessed people given apartments, flats...a roof and weeks or months later, they were back in the shelters!!! And one may hear that I'm talking against the homeless, however, I believe in giving people ALL the information needed in order to make a conscious choice and decision about how to proceed. "You will never lighten anyones load until you have felt that pressure in your own soul." You have compassion for homelessness not until you have had to live it that you will only manage and support it. I was in the foxhole and understand FULLY what homelessness is. God's concern is for more than our physical state/condition but the sustainery of life

Do you know why the poor act so disappointed and wronged ? I think it has to do with God commanding the rich not to be high minded but to consider the poor.If you read only scripture about the poor you will even see that he pleads their cause and gets angry. Those who have wealth in this world think they're doing favors if they give something but the Bible actually teaches a parable of a rich man building more barns to hold his stuff.God was angry. Why? We aren't meant to gather this world's goods in excess . It's not all for you if you are given the ability to get wealth. You are actually going to be judged by how you loved people in life.Them church pews gonna be burnt up.So will that car and house, but that soul will exist either with God or in hell.Nothing to do but repent and do his will.If you don't then your sins remain.

Could you clarify the first statement you made - "One thing that every Christian FAILS at is caring for the poor." Are you one of those Christians who FAILS caring for the poor (or) are you not a Christian? OR perhaps not every Christian FAILS at helping the poor.I do not know about where these homeless people are but I remember when I was a homeless person ( 1st time 1 1/2 years second time a few months.) There were shelters, missions and places to get food everywhere. This was Southern California in the Urban cities. This was in the 1990s. I am not sure how it is in 2015. Is "Enoch" a city? where are these places you are showing?

I attended different churches in my lifetime. And all the the churches that l attended did what they could, to help and feed the homeless , and even the last church l attended was a large church , and l had attended their tor 24 yeats , and they help and gave alot of money to other organizations that helped the homeless and thoses in need , and since the pandemic, thousands of christain churches were force to closeed down , because they were not allowed to gather as a churcjh because , who ever they were did not trust the churches that they would follow the rule's of social distancing , , but yet it was ok , for people to, get together in large stores, or even in large events as long they kept social distancing, and this did not make any sense. Since we needed, Gods churches to remain open more than ever, during this time , so whom ever is saying that christain churches did not help the homeless and thoses in need these is faults , lm not speaking for all the churches, nevertheless l know for a fact that the churches that l attended did have programs to help thosed in need , satan is still spreading his lies for little while longer nevertheless God has overcome the world, Amen .

I wish you would interview church pastors in the area and give both sides of the story. This would give balance and perspective to your video. Find out why the church doesn't open the doors at night. Did you even think of this? Did you approach the churches? This alone makes me question your motives for your videos. If you did go to these churches why didn't you show it or mention it? You spend so much time making these videos putting music to it, editing flying from city to city but you don't tell the complete story, why?

In each city it is going to be different. In my area they had several program's in each city where the churches housed the homeless at night provided them with dinner and have them breakfast and a bag lunch. But since the pandemic hit they no longer do that but the churches are out in the communities serving meals and giving out other things to help the homeless. It really boils down to people that have a caring heart coming together and putting their resources together and helping others. We all can play a part with what we have , weather we have plenty of not.Fixing some one a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a blessing to a person. We all should try to be a part of the solution.Look how people in the U.S. Come together when their is a natural disaster.

A lot of homeless people in the western world actually give them benefits? Also hostels? So these people who get the same as a jobless person paying to live on a budget looking after his family is going to hell because he should be on the streets so he can go to heaven?
