I'm watching this video 2 years after it was released, but what a great clip! I enjoyed seeing what comics were inside the mystery box, plus really appreciated all the info on artists and writers.
That X-Men First Class comic, around 6 minutes into the video, has a Marko Djurdjevic cover. In the book "The Marvel Art of Marko Djurdjevic" he tells the story of this cover. They wanted him to make a romantic cover of Scarlet Witch and Angel. He found it very cheesy, but decided to go with it and make it over the top, summer love. He tells it became a popular cover, to his surprise :-)
This brought back alot of memories I went everywhere with comics as a kid my first comic was adventures of superman 450 in 1989. My first x-men comic was that number 7 of x-men with omega red. I was 9 and loved it. The late 90s especially was a wonderful time to collect. He man comics where a dollar, thundercats a few dollars. Some x men issues then where only a dollar. i Have a few older comic price guides, one from 1976. And the very 1st wolverine then was only 50 cents and the very 1st x men no 1 was only 40 dollars
It was hinted at! Scott lobdell wanted to expand on Iceman and make him more powerful, change his form! But marvel told him no, because the new toy line had just come out and they didn't want to confuse people. So he did what he could with this story and sat on his ideas!
Marvel thought that if you picked the book up you have a higher chance of buying it so they hid the issue number by the barcode. I hate that feature to this day haha. I have to say I agree with your artwork preferences, and really enjoyed the tidbits of knowledge involving the art in these books. Great vid man! And thanks for checking out my channel, it's my hobby aside from comics.
Nice collection i have the Dark Phoenix saga yellow and red art cover which came with two other comics for $1.49 and bought several comics along with the three pack comics for the same price i bought the Dark Phoenix saga comic with the other three it came with. Most of them are Andy Kubert's work on the X-Men and some of Rob Liefeld's early work on the X-Force in the early '90's, which i found an X-Force #1 by Liefeld, for $1.49 as well and a Spider-Man 2099 #1 for the same price at a dollar bin long box. Ninja Scrolls is one of the best animes out there. If Hugh Jackman, does reprise his role as Wolverine in the new X-Men and the Avengers movie for a project, it would be cool if they did another take on the Infinity War saga again but this time more comic accurate like Jim Starlin would write and have Warlock and the Silver Surfer to finally appear of the warnings of Thanos in the MCU and to face Thanos along with: Hulk, Cyclops, Thor, Wolverine, Captain America, Cloak, Ironman and Drax to fight along against Thanos. Yes i know Ironman died in End Game but his fate remained the same like in the comics when Thanos killed him along with the Avengers except for Captain America which is why in the end of End Game and in the comics he lived but everyone was back alive like in the comics. Which makes sense. I know Captain America at the end of End Game he's aged at 80 years old but however when he took back the stones to where they belong is when his new journey began after he was discovered in the ice to bring him back is he then later interacted and met with the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the rest of the characters who were involved and affected by the loss of other heroes and villains and people in the world is when they join together as a team to fight against Thanos in space. Black Widow of course comes back but helps the citizens from a chaotic shift from the disappearance of the people in the city like she did in the comics. I can see this be an on going new adventure and take of the saga not to take away from how End Game was perceived at the end of Captain America appearing old which shouldn't be taken out. But at the same time it'll make sense on what could have happened when he went back in time when he placed the stones where they supposed to be? As if to think the past Thanos was searching for those stones like in the comics of 'Thanos Quest' which is how the Infinity Gauntlet Wars had first started, which i think makes sense. Wow that could be a great movie and story telling to see this idea happen especially bringing back some of the notable characters and introduce new characters for a new chapter on the MCU phase. That I'd like to see and hear sn anouncement to make it happen. That'll be cool. I like to see Thanos turn Wolverine's bones into rubber like in the comics that'll probably look creepy if they did that.
9:55 no bro, you can count me in for thinking JRR's art style is a bit "eeeehhh". His women are like males with lipstick and boobs. never was a fan of his. the ONLY time I kind of got into his style was when he was on Ironman during Armor Wars II back in the day....his Ironman design was SUPER MEH, but his Mandarin was pretty cool...never could get into ANY of his other works, tho... 10:55 Joe Madureira and Roger Cruz...man! great little info about them and their art style..THIS is why I watch your videos. Ninja Scroll was da SH*T when it came out. you got me being all nostalgic now and thinking I need to add NS to my blue ray collection. 12:25 yeah, it pissed me off how they never made Rogue like the comic book version. very disappointed in the director's interpretation of her. 15:54 FORGE! love that issue. need that to build my Uncanny run during that time. can I buy it from ya! lol 17:02 did a google search and found out that BWS original color artwork sold at an auction site for $13,145. there's a whole lot of BWS original artwork and it's stated it was auctioned last year 2017. Heritage Auctions is the site. 32:20 ICEMAN! BAD-ASS!....aaaaaand then SWJ Marvel made him GAY. lol........
Wow! glad I could help and love this response! I love Ninja scroll and that needs to be in everyone's library!! BWS is seriously my Grail autograph if I ever get to meet him. But don't think that will ever happen. Although now it seems like Steven mcniven is filling in for him. His latest artwork is heavily influenced by BWS. Thank you so much for watching!
UXM231 one of the rare cover appearances of Magik in the original UXM! I want!! Personally I love JRJR artwork, but I can totally understand why some people might not like it. That being said, how can you like BWS if you don't like JRJR?! LOL
I can see the similarities, but BWS grasp of anatomy, simple line work, and the emotions he puts into his characters is just pure perfection. We're talking Moebius level there!
Comic Vantage now that you bring up Moebius, as a kid I wasn't a big fan (read him in Silver Surfer, Heavy Metal), but now I look back and really appreciate him. Same goes with BWS! LOL
Sorry guy jrjr is a great artist. We all have our opinions and his stuff now is based on speed over quality hence some of the opinions but his early work on spidey is great. Cant beat his dad though in style as no matter what the work snr never sacrificed speed for quality hence one reason he was art director for years and steered many artists. Good vid and look forward to more
I get what you're saying but, the books in this video were from the 90's. Nothing to do with speed then. I just don't like his style and think it looks a bit "off". I guess it's kind of the same way people think liefeld is a great artist. But I just don't see it. And thank you. I have fun making them all.
@@ComicVantage depends on how you look at the replies in the thread:-) many just generalise. And romita's early work on xmen was mid 80's with a return early 90s for uncanny and I would not consider his art was boxy or drawn as men with boobs back in that era. But early 2000s is a shift art style which I believe is speed related. He has kids and needs to feed them lol. I'm sort of old and so have seen many artists come and go. What I can say is 90% of them I have enjoyed even if I see some of them as kind of abstract and "not my taste" :-)
Comics pretty much was on a downhill slide after about the mid 90s, the market was oversaturated with meaningless titles and bad artwork. That was much the time I quit collecting.
I loved Johns artwork when he was the penciler for the Invincible Iron man the 1st series and was teamed up with inker Bob Layton. After that, his artwork changed dramatically to the point I'm guessing he could crank out multiple titles quickly in as little time as possible with the new art style.
Geek Daddy, I dont agree hes overrated, if you read his work from the early iron man series, you'd never know it was the same artist. Iron man 150 compared to 250 is like night and day.
Gah! Why do I keep calling Storm, Rogue?!?! Sorry bout that!
25:30 isn't that Storm? I don't remember Rogue having the mohawk hair style.
Yup! I corrected myself in the pinned comment! I have no idea why I kept doing that!
It's like when your mom confuses you for your sibling.

the 3rd female with Psylocke and Spiral is Revanche, i have a nice Psylocke collection. good grab bag.
Awesome! I could not think of her name, thank you!

32:28 is that how long ago Iceman was realized to be an omega level mutant? Wow, I always thought it was a more modern story. Sounds very interesting.

Looks like the prediction of Jackman coming back as Wolverine came true after all!
Starting to get into 80s and 90s X-Men. Currently on the hunt for an Uncanny 305. Only Uncanny book with art by Jan Duursema (my favorite artist)
There is something special about 80's and 90's X-Men. Makes me wish I was reading them for the first time myself!
An X-cellent batch of books there
Thanks! Had alot of fun with it!

The first time I remember seeing BWS. It was marvel comic presents 84. That is my favorite cover ever and can still stare at it for hours.
Do more videos please
I'll see what I can do!
I feel the same way about the X-Men. The comic book changed the game.
Can not argue with that!!

I need me one of those
This was seriously fun to do!
You sound like Lucky Penny Shop
Wow! Very similar!
Most people don’t like Romita Jr
Yeah ive always thought his stuff was off
Thats probably because most people dont know about his earlier work.
Comics pretty much was on a downhill slide after about the mid 90s, the market was oversaturated with meaningless titles and bad artwork. That was much the time I quit collecting.
There were definitely some gems in the rough if you looked. But most of those were indie titles that allot of stores didn't carry back then.
Yes! John Romita Jr. is so over-rated! I've heard he is a good guy so I hate saying anything negative, but his art is just so blah
You are correct on both accounts!
