I went as far as to DEP into the Navy at 17 and work towards a SEAL contract. DEPing out and terminating my contract was the best decision I made.
After one PST surrounded by a bunch of tough hard working 25 year olds, I realized I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to endure. I’m working on maturing and growing up a bit then choosing the Army route. Seems like there is far more opportunity for growth in the Army ESPECIALLY in the combat arms world.

Nowadays I always see people say they wanna be a SEAL just because they read a book or they seen a video about them and said to themselves that's what they want in life but haven't had ANYTHING hard in their life. I think most SEALs wanted to be a seal since they were 12 or 13 not because they wanted fame or to be able to write a book but to do something bigger then themselves. Also great advice really helping me out.

Do you really want to roll into a hostile environment, recruit, and train Indig to roll outside the wire with you (your life depends on them) on daily Ops? No? Don't roll ODA then...cause no SEAL, no CAG, no DEVGRU want that smoke...that is an ODA specialty and it's dangerous as fuck!

You really think that young man can develop the mindset though? As you pointed out, he was thinking and acting in the manner of a special operator. Do you think someone who thinks like that can improve upon their mindset to the extent that they would be able to be successful in special operations?

Go to college, get a degree and if you still want it then do it then. That is the only answer.

Too many kids are watching Captain Phillips and ZERO DARK THIRTY. They all have RED SQUADRON 2011 fantasies.
Instead they're going in to a NAVY that's no longer going hard in IRAQ, or Afghanistan.
There's no real sexy mission SEALS are going to be sent on. If there is it sure isn't going to the regular teams. SEAL TEAM 2 isn't rescuing a Jessica Buchanan.
I'd go ARMY all day long.

Infantry was 95 percent boring 5 percent action. It's really boring most of the time. Jake is right though. Go army. You have so many options and schools you can go. U can go OSUT training and even if u don't have a contract if u have high PT scores they will offer you to go airborne school then rasp or SFAS. I promise you I was offered air assault school and snipe r school and I was national guard. I wax young 21 year old who just partied. If u take it serious you will be fine. I scored a 35 and I didn't try. U gotta give a shit if u sign up or your time will be miserable

If I could do it all over, I would have stayed in school and remained a civilian. It's hard to watch these young guys clamoring to join the military. Maybe its social media or the movies, but that's a miserable life. And would you really want to die for the current administration........

How can this kid even mention SEAL when he doesn't even swim? It's like trying to perform surgery without a medical degree.
