Can I use the Domestic Check-in counter that you describe in your video (outside the arrival lobby in Terminal 3) or do I need to take our luggage with us on the free bus from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1 when we depart Haneda the next day?
I think you can leave your luggage at the transfer counter. However, the counter may be closed during part of the afternoon, so we recommend asking the staff for more information.

Just curious if anyone knows this. I will be arriving 5am into Haneda from U.S., and I have a completely separate domestic ticket from HND to Sapporo. I want to explore HND airport, especially the Garden area. Should I store luggage in T3, finish exploring, then bring my luggage to T2 (ANA) to check in just before my flight? Or should I bring my luggage from T3 to T2 in the morning to try to check in, then go back to T3 to explore? Will ANA let me check in my flight many hours before my domestic flight?

Hi, thank you for the video! A question, do all international flight passengers need to claim baggage in Haneda? Since I booked a ticket from Jakarta to Osaka Itami with a layover in Tokyo Haneda for only 2 hours. I thought my baggages will be passed through to my final destination (Osaka Itami). With the disembarkment, immigration, and baggage claim process, do you think I can make it to the connecting flight to Osaka Itami?
Hello. Your baggage information will be transmitted to Osaka Itami Airport. However, as customs inspection will be conducted at Haneda Airport, you will need to re-check your luggage at Haneda Airport. If you have a 2 hour layover, I think that's enough.
Pretty Awesome! I will be going to Japan for the first time in June. I will be passing through Haneda heading of to Osaka. So we will be making the transfer from the Intl. terminal to terminal 1. Thanks for showing this. It's been helpful.
I'm also going to Osaka from London in July, with British Airways but I'm so confused if I have to collect my suitcase in Tokyo or something? or will my suitcase go straight to Osaka?
Thank you for this video. It is very helpful for an upcoming trip where we will be travelling to Sapporo via Haneda. If it is less than one hour for the connection and we need to take our bags on the free shuttle bus. Where do we check in our bags in terminal 2 flying ANA?
Thank you for watching the video. There is an automatic bag drop machine on the 3rd floor of Terminal 2. The location is on the way to the security checkpoint. There are a lot of them so I don't think you will get confused. There is also a manned counter where you can leave your luggage. Additionally, some international flights arriving at Haneda Airport may arrive at Terminal 2. In that case, there is no need to take the shuttle bus. Finally, layovers of less than an hour have a 70% chance of failure. If you can change your flight to Sapporo, I think you should do it! It would be nice if the layover time was 2 hours! !
Thank you for the advice and additional information. We will have one hour and 40 minutes for the connection but I was a little worried about how long it may take to transfer to the domestic flight. Unfortunately we cannot change the flight time so I’m hoping we fly into terminal 2. Thanks again for your help.
@@JAPANTravelwithTomthx u for the video... To clarify.. if we have connecting flight from international to domestic.. First we have to go to immigration, take our luggage drop it in the transfer desk and go to domestic terminal?
That's pretty much it! All you have to do is go through immigration inspection, customs inspection, drop off your luggage at the transfer counter, and proceed to the domestic terminal!
Hello, and Thanks for your informative video. I am planning to come to Japan in early March, I Will arrive at Haneda airport at 05:05 A.m. with an American Airlines flight. Would it be wise to book an ANA flight to Osaka at 07:15?
The international flight i booked should arrive in Haneda at 09:50 and i wonder what domestic flight i should book to continue to Osaka. JAL seems to fly every hour at half past. From your video and comments it seems that getting through immigration, customs, etc and changing terminals to domestic works pretty fast and smoothly. I'm worried though that if i booked the flight to Osaka from 11:30 it still might not work out time wise. Would you say there would be enough time for the transfer and check-in or would be 12:30 a better choice? Also, thanks for the video, it was a great help. I'll probably watch it another couple times before my trip :)
We recommend the 12:30 flight! You can also take the 11:30 flight, but if your connection is short, your luggage may not be loaded all the way to Osaka, so we recommend the 12:30 flight!
Thank you for this video! I only have a 1 hour 25 min layover and freaking out! I don’t Understand why we need to claim our luggage again and check them in again aren’t they suppose to send my luggage to my final destination? Is it possible to make connecting flight in such a short time ?? 😅
Thank you so much! But do I need to take a ticket for the shuttle bus? I saw I need to get the free ticket at the information center... Also, I only have carry-on baggage, does I need to make the check-in at terminal 3?
You do not need to have a ticket to take the shuttle bus on this route. In the domestic terminal, most check-in counters are unmanned, so if you are unsure, I recommend that you check in at the manned check-in counter in Terminal 3.
Hi, your video is super helpful. I will be arriving on a United flight from Washington, and then transferring to ANA for Iwakuni. So after I do immigration and customs, recheck my bags at the transfer counter and then take the bus to domestic flights? Is there any other way to get to terminal 2?
Do we take all of our check-in luggage to terminal 1? If so, where do we drop off check-in luggage before going through the security check point in terminal 1? Thank you!
@@shdmd2118 But the concern I particularly have for this situation is what if you have less than an hour left before your connection flight departure? The transfer counter as this video mentioned stated does NOT accept check in luggage at that point! So I wonder what the next step would be?
Hi Tom, according to the instruction given on Haneda web, there should be an area for security clearance next to domestic check in counters at T3 level 2. Have you seen it?
I have two separate tickets (ANA/JAL). Travel from SFO-HND and HND-HKG with checked luggages. Do I have to go out of arrival area completely and re-check myself at JAL ticket counter @ departure or is there a transfer counter around where I pick up my luggages?
In this case, the arrival lobby is not required. Regarding your luggage, we will first guide you to the baggage drop-off counter. If you are informed that you do not need to pick up your bag, please go to the transfer counter without going through immigration inspection.
Hi I have a flight with ANA arriving at 14:20 my connection is at 16:00. There is no need to drop off your luggage in Osaka and pick it up at Haneda Airport. So you don't have to bring your luggage onto the bus! ! Pick up your luggage in London! Enjoy your next trip to Japan!
I'll be arriving at Haneda at 2 pm from the US. I have a flight at 4:30 to Osaka. Is that enough time to me drop my luggage off at the transfer counter and go to Terminal 3?

Hi, I will be flying out from Osaka to HND via JPL (10:30am) and transfer to AA to fly back to the US with a 70 min layover at 11:50am. Do you think this is enough time to make the connection flight? Do I have to pick up luggage, exit the terminal, go through security again at T3 and custom/immigration before boarding? What are the steps involved for transferring from domestic to international flight? Thank you.
There is no need to collect your luggage when transferring from a domestic flight to an international flight. However, you must follow the instructions of the staff in Osaka. A 70 minute layover is plenty of time!
Hi, hope you answer this. So next week i will be arrrived in Terminal 2 using ANA. And then continue to chitose. I still wondering about the flow after arrive in haneda. Due to i only transit in 2 hours.. 🙏
Hello. I don't know much about international flights arriving at Terminal 2 either. However, since I think you will be connecting at the same terminal, I think 2 hours is enough time for the connection!
Does that mean you only have a 1 hour layover? In that situation, you may not be able to make a connection. You will need to change to a different flight or ask local airport staff for assistance.
Thanks for the video! I have 1 hrs 30 minutes to transfer from ANA international flight to ANA domestic flight. I'm worried that the immigration process will take long. Do you know typically how long it will take to clear immigration, collect luggage, and clear customs?
If it is not a busy time, it will take about 30 minutes from the time you disembark to the time you complete customs inspection. If the immigration inspection is busy, it may take up to an hour.
hey, after an international flight with ANA, do I have to first collect my luggage to transfer to the ANA domestic flight. I will have two hours for the transfer, is this enough time?
Thanks for your video, I will be arriving at 0555am Terminal 3, Do you know how long it will take to clear immigration, collect luggage, and clear customs? I have a connecting flight at 0715am at Terminal 2
The time you arrive at Terminal 3 is when immigration will be crowded. I think it takes more than 45 minutes on busy days. So I think it will take about an hour to go through customs! By the way, I don't think the customs office is crowded!
So what is the scenario or next step approach if I don't manage to make it to the transfer counter within at least more than 1 hour allowed before my connecting flight departure?? Very little could I have faith on the time it takes to go through immigration and picking up my luggage from the carousel! My layover time in Haneda is 1.5 hours basically from international to domestic!
@Stonerrockowa My travel hasn't happened yet. It's not until the end of November that I go. I'm certain it'd involve checking in luggage at the domestic terminal as opposed to transfer counter if missed time threshold and if flight is missed have airline staff rebook you to next available flight. But I still hope such a case doesn't happen due inconvenience that it causes in general.
why do you need to collect your luggage and then check in again? isn't it usually you check in for both flights and just need to transfer at the connecting airport with your carry-on items? I think with ANA there's bus that takes you straight from the arrival to the connecting terminal without going through all that.
All the research I’ve done suggests you must collect your luggage and re-check in. There is no airside transfer from T3 without having to go through immigration first.
Under Japanese law, you must first declare at customs at the airport you enter Japan. Therefore, due to the structure of the airport, all passengers arriving at Terminal 3 must re-check their baggage. On ANA, some international flights arrive at Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 3. In that case, you're right.
Hi please help me I will travel to Osaka with British Airways and Japan airlines (partnership), British Airways will take me to Haneda Airport terminal 3, and then I have to go to terminal 1 for Japan airlines to Osaka KANSAI.. Do I need to collect my suitcase in Haneda airport terminal 3?
Terminals vary depending on the airline. Japan Airlines, Skymark and StarFlyer are in Terminal 1. All Nippon Airways (ANA)is in Terminal 2 ! If you tell me the flight number, I'll answer it anytime !!
We recommend checking in at the transfer counter! Traveling to Terminals 1 and 2 with your luggage will be more tiring than you might imagine. Of course, you can also check in directly at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

hello, I will be arriving at terminal 3 at around 5am and then transfer to terminal 1 for my domestic flight. I would like to know if the domestic transfer check in counter in terminal 3 is 24/7 open? Thank you
I think the transfer counter will be open at 7am.
@@JAPANTravelwithTom thank you for your reply, I would like also to know if there is also an international transfer check in counter at Haneda terminal 1?
Thank you so much!
Did you make it
Hi, hope you answer this.
So to use the domestic check in gate from terminal 3 only for 1 hour before the flight ?
Does that mean you only have a 1 hour layover?
In that situation, you may not be able to make a connection.
You will need to change to a different flight or ask local airport staff for assistance.
Hi, I will arrive at haneda using ANA and then plan to go osaka using JAL, can i use domestic counter checkin JAL at terminal 3 ?
yes! Of course you can!
I will have two hours for the transfer, is this enough time?
im confused, do we drop off our luggage at the transfer desk or at terminal 2 (ANA)
If you have a layover of more than an hour, I recommend leaving your luggage at Terminal 3.
@@JAPANTravelwithTom Thanks for the information, i guess I will need help from the ANA staff when I reach Terminal 3😮💨
@@Ervlne Hi! I'm take a flight that arrives and departs the same timing as you, how was it?
We have to take a domestic flight with Japan Airlines to Osaka, do we have to go to Terminal 1? Thank you!
Yes. You have to go to Terminal 1 !
@@JAPANTravelwithTom Thank you very much ❤️❤️
So what is the scenario or next step approach if I don't manage to make it to the transfer counter within at least more than 1 hour allowed before my connecting flight departure?? Very little could I have faith on the time it takes to go through immigration and picking up my luggage from the carousel! My layover time in Haneda is 1.5 hours basically from international to domestic!
Did you manage your transfer? Please answer, I have the same concernes.
@@sab-vl4jg Good luck. I'll be there 30 of November and I hope I won't be late to my flight to Sapporo. 🤞
why do you need to collect your luggage and then check in again? isn't it usually you check in for both flights and just need to transfer at the connecting airport with your carry-on items? I think with ANA there's bus that takes you straight from the arrival to the connecting terminal without going through all that.
All the research I’ve done suggests you must collect your luggage and re-check in. There is no airside transfer from T3 without having to go through immigration first.
Under Japanese law, you must first declare at customs at the airport you enter Japan. Therefore, due to the structure of the airport, all passengers arriving at Terminal 3 must re-check their baggage.
On ANA, some international flights arrive at Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 3. In that case, you're right.
@@JAPANTravelwithTom i see, thank you for your help and reply. I guess i will find out soon when I travel to Osaka via a connecting flight in Tokyo.
So I can go to the domestic transfer counter in terminal 3 and give my suitcases? I don't have to give it to Terminal 1?
After checking in your luggage at Terminal 3, you can go to Terminal 1 without any luggage.
So i've taking my luggage from the custom in international flight?
Thank you for you email. Could I ask where i can collect my lugg before taking shuttle bus to T2/T1?
You can pick up your luggage at the terminal 3!
You have to collect your suitcase in terminal 1.
We have to go fukuoka, which terminal is that please terminal 1 or 2.?? Please
Terminals vary depending on the airline.
Japan Airlines, Skymark and StarFlyer are in Terminal 1.
All Nippon Airways (ANA)is in Terminal 2 !
If you tell me the flight number, I'll answer it anytime !!
@@JAPANTravelwithTom thank you
My flight number is LH4922, so it will be nice to know, which terminal it is.....1 or 2,
Thank you very much.
In that case, it's Terminal 2!
@@JAPANTravelwithTom thanks very much.
I would like to inquire if I should use the transfer counter at terminal 3 or if I can check in directly at terminal 1 / terminal 2?
We recommend checking in at the transfer counter! Traveling to Terminals 1 and 2 with your luggage will be more tiring than you might imagine.
Of course, you can also check in directly at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
