  • Uncommon VCR from 1987 with HiFi sound, Digital Effects, selectable noise reduction and a stylish front panel. Unit is G Deck, and I have two of these, both needed extensive work to function - new capacitors mainly - in PSU and on the video boards. Now both work perfectly, and give good sound and vision.
Note the digital pause - the still image is a frame store, so has no jitter - and holds colour even in LP.
Video shows digital effects in action.

I had one of these when it came out. It was the best NHS I ever had. I used it as a hifi component as well as for video. It died eventually which was a shame.

I don't think there ever was a NTSC model, very cool looking VCR.~

HorrorTimeProductions Thanks. I did check but seems NTSC machines of 1980's seemed completely different to the PAL models. But this unit is uncommon even in PAL Region.

VintageLynx Yeah, most of the 80's NTSC units had very early designs. They started to look like the PAL units in the early 90's. Which soon after in the middle 90's went to cheap plastic.

I had a neighbor whose parents bought one of the first VCRs, they paid around $350 for it. Now you can't give them away.

Nice i love panasonic vcr,s never seen this model before, years ago i owned two second hand nv730b machines from about 1985 lent one to my mum and dad and they wrecked it the other i lent to a mate who decided to try and fix it after it started playing up turned ot he adjusted all alignment on the guides the fault was just a failed tension band ting on the reels but no matter how i tried i could not get it to play again .I now own a working nv f55b that i will do a head clean as the working machine looks like it has had a lot of use the 2 i have that are faulty look like they have had a lot less use so getting one built from the two might give me a better machine, i also bought a panasonic ag 6730 svhs time lapse recorder as the seller done a video proving it can play standard vhs/svhs tapes in 3 h mode and it has no belts and brushless motors for each reel of the tape though pressing the hour meter butun reveals it has done 6386 hours of use but video quality still seems fairly good and i have a number of sony trinitron crt tv,s one of wich reports 8068 hours of use but tube is superb and it was free as dumped in the street 1 of my other 4:3 trintron tvs was dumped in the alley behind my flat so i rescued it and that is in great health as well ,do not normally see 4:3 aspect ratio tv,s most i see are widescreen and i have 80,s computers zx spectrums and bbc,s so there perfect for that too.

paulb4uk Panasonic is my favourite VCR brand. Its so easy to fix and save VCR's for the future and kind of relaxing to do also (if you enjoy doing such things). The D80 is rare in the UK but was part of their late 80's range.
