Thanks for taking the time to reply pal cos you’ve hundreds I’m toying around with the idea of getting a lathe I inherited a big old anvil drill made sixties I think all British made and a huge circular saw again with the metal table must weigh half ton or more,so I have them and a vice a lot of clamps grandfather was a master carpenter
Congratulations my friend, have fun and enjoy every project... but be warned, its a time machine.. you'll nip in to do a short job, come out of your garage and suddenly its dark, the missus is cross, and yer dinners in the dog..!
Great video Delboy, love seeing your lathe videos. The Clarke cl430 is a great little lathe, I have one and have just been machining a 300mm piece of steel into a seal driving tool for a tractor wheel hub.
Hi Shaun, great to hear you have one too mate, im really impressed with mine and so far its been a dream to operate and easy to learn on... now i find i can't stop finding things to machine on it..lol Cheers mate, and have a good week.. Del.
This guy is the best. Make those weights into some kind of rapid deploy nunchucks that you just pull out from the bar for disciplining people in cars who almost kill you.
Congratulations, you are a great craftsman. The lathe is magnificent. You must take care of it. I advise you to make a box to cover the engine. Brass gets everywhere.
Thanks buddy, it's is very hypnotic aye?! Lovin' learning and you're right, there's loads you can make, if anyone was in any doubt that they needed a lathe, I've learned myself already what a fantastic addition to the garage it is, the possiblities are endless.. thanks for watching mate, much appreciated!
I remember back in '67 making a Tap-Holder (Tap & Die not Kitchen Sink) for my GCE Metalwork....... (Lovely job, still got it, never use it now though). Never used a Lathe since either, but great to see nothing really changes - (Except the micrometers :-)
That'd be cool.. the more people who get into it, the more companies out there that will make them for home use and then the more choice we have rather than worn out industrial lathes that need restoring...
Im taking a machine shop class right now through my university and had no idea machining was this accessible! I thought you had to pay up thousands upon thousands to get a lathe, now Im seriously considering buying one. Well... When I get the money, space and time for it at least :)
I picked one of these out of a skip about 6 yrs back, bit of a clean up and new plug, brilliant little bit of kit for nothing, needs new cross feed nut but think i can handle 30 quid!!!, great for all my spacers etc...
That was cool and awesome to watch. Excellent fantastic job. I got a kick out of the copper shavings. Penny and You stay warm ridesafely have an awesome week God bless
Hi Paul, great to hear from you buddy, hope life is your there.. glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for your kind words... Cold and wet here now, so perfect time for winter projects aye.. take care and ride safe.. D&Px
Yeah, i thought about that, but most of the time the shavings are soaked in oil or coolant.. so it would all get gummed up and stick... great i deal though..!
Hi again from Colombia Del. This job is just amazing. Bought some brass bar ends for my Scrambler some time ago but yours…. are way nicer, better and heavier. Congrats and keep these kind of interesting things.
Love the cutting of the brass del it's like a 🦄 being born hahaha doing a Stella job man I'm not a fan of brass I would have painted them Matt black my self but it's blood good watching it being cut keep it up del 👍👍
Thanks buddy, it's just nice to experiment with different materials, Penny has a few gold accents on her bike, and when you see the whole bike, it does work...! Anyway, who argues with a woman lol...
This is amazing!! I'd really like to replicate the bar weight. Any chances to get the lenghts of the three sections, each diameter including the center hole? That would be great
Hey delboy nice job with the brass machining- brass being brass, splinters off when cutting, unlike steel which as you know can cut long curly bits of swarf. The shape of the cutting tool is different for brass also! Top job bro!!
You could cast some of that brass swarf in resin and turn it into something, Del. I've used it mixed with a resin to fill voids in Timber when I'm turning.
Thanks buddy, I've been watching some others do that on the Tube, interesting burr wood and coloured resins, I was thinking of making some file handles and that sort of thing, so lots of potential, just gotta get the right resin and do a couple of experimental casts to test it out !
Another nice job Del. As others have mentioned, you'll get a good finish on brass if you use a radiused hss tool bit. I can see a bench grinder and some hss tool blanks in your future.
Hi Doug, thanks for that confirmation, I do have the grinder, just gotta set it up and I will be doing just that, looking to expand what I can do and achieve and grateful to be learning from all the wonderful viewers giving advice.. thank you!
Yeah I would if I had time buddy, amazing how 6hrs rolls by! I'd have to sell them for quite a lot though as that's a long time o make a set of bar weights lol
Bloody nice job with the brass machining Del, they look a treat mate. Penny will be over the moon with them I think. You will be in the good books for a nice Christmas present LOL. Penny and you have a relaxing Sunday. Cheers. P.S We have our sun back now, thanks for sending it back LOL.
ha ha, you're welcome mate, enjoy... we have no use for it at the moment, £20 on a white Christmas (the way they should be), and its currently at 30:1... so you keep it there for us till January 1st aye... lol!
I like your work because you are intelligent man and your also awesome your nice hobbit is that you clean your tool before and after use this kind of man is doing great job carry on
Hey Brother.. thanks for your kind words.. im loving it too.. lots of scope for brass parts on the Wide Glide.. just got to keep it under 7.5 ton or they'll charge me HGV tax...lol!
Thanks Si, it's circle, in order to progress, you have to invest, and keeping the channel fresh... glad you appreciate it buddy, hope the family are well!
Thank you brother, thinking of how heavy they might need to be to hold the ends of the bars still on the Dyna, probably couldn't afford enough brass for it lol .. did you buy that Tiger in then end?!
Not yet want to try out some other brands. I just found a dealer who allows test drives but I think I will wait till the weather becomes warmer and I have to get the wife on board lol Right now we are in the process of buying a solar panel system for our home but that is more of an investment than a toy if you know what I mean 😀 lol you'll never get the vibration out of those dyno bars😮😂
Cheers Dan, appreciate your kind support mate, rolling the Dyna Wide Glide on the bench this weekend for the first strip down and once over to see what the ol' girl needs! Lots of tinsel to take off, but lots of potential, the right model to go chopper stylee, but got something a bit more aggressive in mind, and of course, I desperately wanna paint it black, but it's hard when the paint is pretty much flawless! It's awesome to be back on a carb'd Harley again, hope to have it rolling in the daylight when the clocks change in March! Take care buddy, and thanks for your support, as ever... cheers, Del
Yes i know mate, all tools to still acquire.. specially the end mill. that would leave a flat platform for the bolt to rest acainst which would be preferable to the chamfer cut of the drill... just using what i have at the moment mate... thanks for the insight.. Del.
Sweet Video! I usually click right off from videos that begin with "My first time doing this". However, something inside told me to take a look. I'm glad I stuck around till the end. One word of advice in working the remaining brass stock: Those pointed, carbide cutters are not your friend with brass. Use a cutting tool with a small to medium tool nose radius, as it will greatly improve the finish on the turned part. I just love this video as it combines two of my favorite things in life Machining and Motorcycles! The other is family. (Your not going to help with that one!) You just earned a new subscriber!
Thanks Scott, that's very kind of you mate, glad you enjoyed it, am only learning this, as I said... I discovered that what you said was right straight away with the pointed carbide tip, made a horrible mess! But using a flatter more regular tool gave a way better finish... welcome aboard my friend, just embarked on a new project and will be using the lathe to make parts for that as I go along!
Hey buddy mine look and work a great. Wot buzzin!!😀😀. I've just put my fizzer back together again. Snagging morning tomorrow then a blap is on order. Penny will love them. Ride safe Buddy and the misses too, weather has turned.
Good news Ray, glad they've worked for you... ride safe out tomorrow, icy and slippery out there, where's the summer gone lol... see you at the meet on 30th mate... !
'Noice'...Looking good Del. I'd say Penny was well chuffed with them. Thanks for the reminder that I gotta get some of those metal wall plugs. And those good old GV tins, where are they nowadays eh?? Awrabest to you both from me & the clan. L&H. 😉💙🤘
Hi Alan, great to hear from you buddy, hope you and the clan are all well... bet you are all gearing up for Christmas there now! Glad you enjoyed, have a great weekend all, and chat soon, D&Px
Brass swarf........ sell it back or keep it. Remember scrap dealers pay more for solid materials than machined swarf 👍. Good to see you’re getting the use from the lathe
Amazing result, Del... very nice indeed. I think Penny will be happy with those for certain. BTW, re the brass filings... maybe you can use them and enter the annual “brass dust meatloaf cook off”? Have a great weekend, both of you! 🏍👍🏍
Cheers buddy, now there's a thought lo... Can't believe how much swarf that made, definitely worth saving up to do something creative with... not only that, the price of brass here, I ain't throwing any way lol ! Great weekend buddy... Harley time mid-week vid!
Moonfleet41 looking forward to it, Del! Cold here in Delaware today (was low 20’s Fahrenheit this morning, but Sunday promises sunshine and 60’s Fahrenheit! Woohoo!
pair of speedos smear the front in glue, shake the brass filings over that let them dry... then hey presto instant access to the rio street carnival.......just a thought del
Cracking looking weights! Brass dust in resin would look good - have a peep at Peter Brown's Shop Time channel, he does loads of stuff like that - no bikes though :-(
Hi mate, yeah it was lovely to show her them as a surprise when she got in from work, she was really happy, nice to make things for others aye? See you soon mate, love to the family!
Using brass is a very nice touch indeed. It goes really well with black - very 'naval' and it's a strikingly fitting addition to the Queen Bling Designer's own steed, I thought. Lovely job, Del. To my inexperienced eyes it's almost as if you've been doing this sort of thing for years. What mischievous use are you dreaming up for that 'powder', I wonder? The World is waiting. 😉 Wear protection, mate. I remember my old Dad getting some of that stuff in his eye (it's not magnetic - the stuff I mean, not his eye) and I'll bet that it's not very nice to inhale either, though you'll be worth a lot more in scrap value if you do, I suppose. TTFN 👍
Thanks Keith, it is very enjoyable learning and also making things... always rock the full safety gear if I can... the powder, have a few ideas, but also will be making a couple of things for the Harley project too, but not using the brass chippings on that one! Have a great weekend, and catcha soon mate!
Hi buddy, no sadly not, it would be way too heavy to spray from a spray gun, you'd probably need a specialist applicator and it would never lay on even, so would end up a bit of a mess!!! Plus a gallon of lacquer to bury it, these days metal flake paints look better and do the job properly... I've another direction for it buddy... something far more creative...
Oh loving it,brass not only heavy but looks good, informative and a pleasure as always in today’s lesson, cheers teach!
Hi Steven, thanks mate, good to hear from you.
Those are the nicest looking bar ends I’ve ever seen..
Beautiful job!!
Wow, thank you, thats very kind of you mate.
2 more jobs to do and then my lathe will be going into the workshop - I can’t wait!! You’re giving me a few ideas so keep it up. Great to watch!

Congratulations, you are a great craftsman. The lathe is magnificent. You must take care of it. I advise you to make a box to cover the engine. Brass gets everywhere.
I use a motorcycle cover over myne, easier to just buyone than have one made. It works and keep the dust out well enough.
Quite satisfying watching the cutting process!
Nice!
Another great job Del, really enjoying these lathe videos... 👍
Thanks Gareth, am really enjoying learning and making things!
Don't have a bike but wish I did now just to make those weights, well done they look great
Could sit here watching the lathe projects for ages. Again great job. Endless possibilities del.

Nothing better than when your on night shift and u get a notification that Del has dropped another vid! Great fabrication work mate!
Thanks Graeme, glad you enjoyed it..
You've got an amazing Garage/ workshop. It's the exactly how I imagined mine should be. Cheers to that.
👍👍👍👍 cracking job mate. Yet again. You smashed this lath malarkey. Stay safe guys
Thanks Paul, simple stuff at the moment, not doing anything complex, and you know how it is, you tend to excel at something you enjoy, don't ya think!
I’d get lost with the on/off button 😂😂
Del i cud sit here watch that lathe for an eternity
Keep the vids coming
Fantastic Bravo 👍

Hi Peter, really enjoying the lathe, like you last used at school, but am so glad we decided to go this way, so many things you can make!
Nice men, your hands and your patience is gold. Keep up the good work
Thanks Sofie, that's very kind, am enjoying learning new skills!
Seeing your fairly new using a lathe, your making a bloody good job of the items your turning, well done buddy proud of you 😉 regards Stu
Thanks Stu, learning as I go, every day's a school day!
The sales of mid size table lathe has increased by 100% since the release of this video 👍

Thanks buddy, learning as I go, and enjoying the processes and definitely enoying using and practising on different materials... glad you enjoy mate!
That was such a satisfying video to watch. I watched your video on troubleshooting a clutch pack today too; what a gem of a channel.
Thank you Brian, you're very kind mate, glad you enjoy!
Penny has taught you well with the hoover.
The vacuum is strong in this one, Master.
Great job Del...I must be odd as I found that really relaxing to watch
Yes mate, it is strangely hypnotic, even when I spend hours in the garage making things, it's kinda relaxing too!
Really nice, how to do a videos and material the videos, really nice.Congratulations,im learning a lot whith you,English as well! Many thanks
Thank you buddy, glad you enjoy and hope you can follow along nicely... best of luck with your English, we understood perfectly!
Don't know why but I really like to watch this kind of video, nice job as usual
Well done Del👍I hate Brass! If you get a heavy cut going, that dust turns into flying needles! Take care, Jim
Ha ham it does that indeed Jim.. thats why i filmed the "spray".. its crazy how hot it is if it lands on you too..lol!
Bit of oil, save you some money in bits. I use a few drops of 5w30 on brass. Brass, It's sticky.Nice work Del
Great little project mate, they look awesome :)
Thanks mate, that's very kind of ya, learning a new skill and happy to be making progress!
I’m very impressed dell boy. They look great.
good job....you're getting good with that thing. A small cyclone vac may make recovering metal powder easier
Yeah, i thought about that, but most of the time the shavings are soaked in oil or coolant.. so it would all get gummed up and stick... great i deal though..!
Brilliant video Del. Fantastic results
so cool and satisfying to watch!!
Nicely finished, and how satisfying to have made it yourself!

Hey Brother.. thanks for your kind words.. im loving it too.. lots of scope for brass parts on the Wide Glide.. just got to keep it under 7.5 ton or they'll charge me HGV tax...lol!
I like the end product looks the Muts, Maybe look at investing in a knurling tool if not for the grip then just aesthetics which looks great on brass

Nice parts, nothing major but you ideally want to use a small boring bar or end mill for the bolt head recess instead of a drill....

Hello Del, nice job! Could the dust be used for a paint job on a tank or fairing ?
Hi buddy, no sadly not, it would be way too heavy to spray from a spray gun, you'd probably need a specialist applicator and it would never lay on even, so would end up a bit of a mess!!! Plus a gallon of lacquer to bury it, these days metal flake paints look better and do the job properly... I've another direction for it buddy... something far more creative...
