- Memorize airspace with a very simple trick I came up with. What I am calling "The 313 method" for understanding airspace and visibility. I Never understood all the other memory tricks for learning airspace so I came up with this to help me. Maybe it will help you too.

I commented years ago that this was helpful for my PPL written exam. I thought you’d be happy to know I’ve been a CFI now for a few years and have been using this with every one of my students! Even have passed this video to other CFIs to use. Haven’t found anything else that makes cloud clearances/visibility more easy. Thanks again!
Congratulations my friend!!! Where you fly out of?
Same! This tab is permanently open on my computer.
Took my FAA written exam this week and the first thing I did when I sat down was draw this. I had 7 questions regarding airspace and nailed them all! I ended up scoring a 97 percent. It would have been a heck of alot less without your drawing! Thanks again.
Thank you for the feedback. I am so happy to hear this worked for you
A lot, not alot.
I've taught Private Pilot Ground School for years and my students' most difficult area has consistently been airspace weather minima. This video makes it quite easy to remember, if not permanently, at least for the written. I am encouraging my students use this man's conceptual drawing from now on!!
Wow! Thank you!
This has to be the best and simplest aid to remember this topic. Ive spent many study sessions trying to remember vfr weather mins. Watched this twice and practiced the sketch a few times and i got it so far. Great
You my friend are a genius, funny genius but a genius none the less. That makes sense. I am now smart. Thx
I came here for satire and have left with a greater understanding of airspace that I didn't want. I'm going to have to erase that knowledge with wine and go back to just making a turn when the GPS flashes red just before I infringe.
Bahahaha!
Jajajajajajajaja!!
This is good. I quickly learned it as there will be 3 Cessna 152s below 10k and 5 F-111s above 10k. You need more clearance above 10k because F111s are fast and need more time to react!
What does the 152 mean?
@@ANTisGOAT 3 C152:
3 miles vis, 1000', above 500' below, 2000' to the side.
5 F111:
Above 10k: 5 miles vis, 1000' above, 1000' below, 1mile to the side.
@@PilotDave85 Thank you!
This video was HUGE for me. When reviewing all the VFR Weather Minimum Questions, after studying this drawing, and drawing it myself 10 times, I have it burned into my mind and dont even need to draw it anymore to answer the questions. The 1 question I struggled with was Class B, probably because it is so easy that I didnt spend the 30 seconds requires to learn B = 3SM and Clear of Clouds. Nice job, bro. Thank you!
Very nicely done. I tell students that they don't need to worry about forgetting this while they're flying. The most restrictive cloud clearances below 10,000' is 3-152. If you do that anytime, day or night, below 10k, you'll be legal. VFR pilots shouldn't be flying in any weather worse than that anyway.
I earned my ATP and my first type rating 44 years ago! We did not have this Euro trash back then and it was easy! Same for our weather reporting system.
No brooms, witches flew brooms,
Your system is a good foundation to straighten this mess out with! Good Job.😁🛫
That means a lot to me. Thank you!
I LOVED this. A little addition I like to do to help myself (for those that need it).
Put the 1/5/2 in a reverse mixed fraction. Example being: Class E - 3 1/5 2 (3 followed by a dash, 1 over 5 to show above/below and the 2 off to the side to show horizontal).
Better be careful... this one borderlined on actually being useful. Actually it was useful... damnit.
Brian Garrett hahaha! I'll try to be less practical moving forward:)
I've been flying for over 20 years and this is BEST method I've ever seen for remembering airspace weather minimums. Thank you for sharing!
This was the first video from you that I have seen, and after watching the rest of your channel, I can imagine everyone who previously followed you waiting for the joke. and I also spent too much time trying to figure out the "Fairspace" chart- not realizing it was a joke the first time:)
OMG dude. I’m a private pilot & instrument student. I have never been able to regurgitate airspace & visibility without looking at the far/aim. I memorized this in 2 minutes. Thank you!
You bet! I'm really glad this works for you.
who would have thought this silly channel would be so useful, making fun of cirrus is a top priority of any student pilot (who knows they will never be able to afford one)
thought u were messing with me.. then active listening kicked in..then learning occurred.. THANKS MAN!
Hahaha. I have some (very few but some) informative videos. I try to only do that on a limited basis
Legend, man. Everybody else trying to explain this stuff can just sit on down.
Damn, dude!!! This is really good. Really, really good! I've struggled with airspace for months, this makes it so clear.
Glad it helps. Thanks for visiting.
Thank you so much! Getting ready to take my exam and airspace has been hanging me up. This is genius. After seeing this I don’t understand why this isn’t THE method for teaching airspace. Well done and thank you!
Wow! This is the simplest yet most logical method I’ve found yet! I have struggled understanding airspace since beginning my PPL journey and this surpasses every other option i’ve tried. I’ll be taking my check ride soon so this was a life saver.
I really do enjoy your satire videos, and I've been out of the left seat for 40 years now, but this is one of the easiest to understand explanations of the current airspace confusion I've seen yet.
I should have commented earlier! I was struggling to memorize and learn airspace for my written a year and a half ago. Thankfully I found this video in my despair when there were only just a few "views" at the time. I proceeded to ace my written and all of the airspace questions because of this. I sat and wrote this down on the blank piece of paper before anything else and knew i didn't have to worry about any of the airspace questions. I also showed it to my CFI who was impressed with the ease of learning this. Thank you for coming up with this and I hope many others will use this to learn their airspace!
Honestly, i was struggling with this topic till you explained it. I nailed it in less than 5 minutes. you are amazing
wallysad thank you. I'm really glad it helped. Fly safe!
Hey thanks for taking the time to create this. Watching a few videos to fresh up my airspaces. - Combat Systems Officer - Air Force
DUDE!!! I've struggle with minimums for months, I take my test today and can recreate this drawing in seconds now. Fucking lifesaver man. Thanks, seriously!
AOZMONSTER glad to help. Good luck on the exam!
I too have been struggling with Airspace, this has been very helpful. Although it took me a couple of times to run through to make sure you weren't pilling my leg. Thanks keep up the good work!!!
This may sound strange but I'm a recently retired airline pilot and after 30+ years of the security of IFR I'm a bit apprehensive about bouncing around VFR. I haven't worried much about airspace (except departing and arriving DCA) in decades! When you're IFR you're operating on a clearance and ATC won't issue a clearance that violates airspace constraints. When I was a student, IFR worried me, now VFR is worrisome. Great job.
Dude you helped a brother out big time, this airspace stuff was always runing my BFR now i feel more confident just looking at your drawing and using that mental picture of the 3-1-3 method is so easy bro thank you so much ...
ABSOLUTELY PERFECT (for me). Thanks so much. I've looked at other memory tricks and graphs that were a not easily memorized. This just works and flows perfectly. Thank you - thank you - thank you!
Awesome! I am glad it helps! Good luck and Fly safe!
With the exception of a video of yours I watched where you were flying with a child this is the only other video that I have seen where it is not a satire. I was hesitant to watch thinking I would forget everything I thought I knew, but this was spot on, thanks.
Very well done! I earned my private during the written in part because I found this video 2 days before the test. GAME CHANGER. And Im back again now to refresh due to the same material coming up in the instrument rating class. I (kinda) forced my instructor to stop class and put your mug on the big screen while all the other students watched and took notes. They too are dumbfounded in the simplicity that you have created here. Again, well done! This should be in the Sporty's training and the prepware!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I love that buried in my world of slapstick comedy videos, this needle in a haystack video is helping so many people. Really love hearing positive stories about this video.
THIS. You managed to get me to remember the mess that is VFR vis requirements for my FAA written. Amazing and thank you!
Man, glad I found this. Getting ready for the knowledge test and was kind of going off memory for airspace. Could not remember the triangle memory aid. Thanks for this.
I saw "learn airspace and weather minimums in 5 min" and was skeptical. Just worked through it myself after the video and have to agree with the below comments. This memory device is AWESOME. I recently had a phase check with an evaluator and of course messed up some of the airspace requirements. With this in hand I'll for sure nail it next time. Thanks for sharing!
Getting ready for my PPL practical and I always struggle with this. Now I'll remember it! Thanks!
The 313 Method is the perfect name, because I can actually remember your creation by its name. Thank you for this. I no longer have an issue remembering Basic VFR. What a simple "method". I know everyone learns differently, but I will definitely introduce this when I become a CFI. Thanks again!!
Thank you
Extremely helpful! Thank you for sharing! This was the only thing on my practice exams that I kept messing up and forgetting I feel so relieved, THANK YOU!
Awesome! Good luck!
Wow. I can’t thank you enough for this. This is how you get people to remember forever! All one has to do is watch your video once, wait 15min and try to draw the whole thing themselves. Any issues that may arise, just review and voila! You have committed to your memory for a long time.
Wow.
Thanks! Glad it helped.
Good luck!
OMG! I have been struggling to understand airspaces for awhile now and this video made it so much easier to understand! I got it after watching it twice! Love it, thanks for the helpful video! 😀
You're the best! I thought I wasn't going to be able to memorize airspace; you made it so much easier to memorize airspace.
This system is the only way I’ve been able to get a grasp of airspace minima as student pilot prepping for the written exam. Thank you so much!
You nailed it! Thought of your picture the next morning, in bed, and in 30 seconds got it. Thank you for posting the concept. Too easy and it’s never-fail. 313
Perfect video! Took the FAA PAR last week and earned a 93%. About 5 questions on the exam that I was able to answer because of this video. I used your video during ground school to help learn airspace. On test day, it took about 30 seconds to drawn out your method on the blank paper provided. I referenced it during the exam. Also, once you draw it out a few times, you will begin to recall the information from memory. You kind of "see" it in your head. Thanks for doing this video. Anyone taking the exam should spend a few minutes learning this method vs trying to memorize the tables and graphs. I also put this on my knee board for flying. THANKS!!
I am really happy and humbled to hear I helped make something simple to understand for you. Thank you for the kind response
Super helpful. Currently doing King School Ground school and this really put it all together for me!
I follow you on multiple platforms and was waiting for this to be a whole joke vid, but then after the jokes you actually got serious and explained it (and well!) and man this is super helpful. Thank you!
Man this really locked the whole thing down for me, I've been looking at that table for days.
This is the best video. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. This system, as you said, might work for some. It works for me and I am very grateful. Happy flying.
Always good to have another version. Everyone has a certain thing that clicks for them. I will say the "Rod Machado" Pyramid was very easy for me to understand the VFR airspace minimums.
This was probably the best example of airspace I've seen so far and super easy to remember with this strat!
Thank you! This helped so much. So much more simple than anything out there.
Thank you so much!! I’ve struggled with trying to memorize this so many times, this is so much simpler compared to the table
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. This is a handy tool I'll be using thanks again. Cheers
This is great. Picked it up after watching once and solved my fumbling with airspace. Thanks for sharing!
Richard Murillo glad to help
Hello, as an AGI I teach piloted aviation and drone aviation as a middle school teacher. I have sat and tried to make something like this (without much luck) that would be easily remembered. As I am redesigning and revamping much of my curriculum this Summer, I came across your video and it is perfect. You did exactly what I was hoping to accomplish, but now I don't have to sit here for hours trying to figure a way to get young students to lock all of this in. Thank you so much for posting this.
This is crazy!! My test is scheduled for April 16th and I was in panic mode. Not anymore. Thank you!!!
Let me know how the exam goes.
This is amazing. One detail you didn't include is that the 10,000 is MSL and the 1,200 is AGL.
Life saver. This reminds me of the old days. Thanks for this aid.
I honestly can't thank you enough. its simple and efficient. Everything else i saw was just so complicated. but I can learn patterns. Of course now that I got this down they won't ask a single question about it on my written tomorrow.
hahaha!!!! seems like that is how it works. Hope the test went well.
I used this for my written. Thank you so much! This was the only airspace diagram (the taco air space was a close 2nd) that worked for me! I appreciate it!
This is the most intuitive mnemonic for remembering this. Thanks a bunch!
Well done! Thank you for sharing!
Great mapping! Very helpful. You're channel is encouraging me to get my license and plane…and, you're funny. Thanks Brother.
Thank you so much for this as now it makes it so easy to always know the airspace as can simply draw it out in moments...
Really helpful! Thanks for sharing!
This was perfect, just took my ground test today and passed, there a few questions that this graphic helped with greatly. Thank you for putting this out there.
That's awesome. Congratulations
Where were you last month when I took my written?!? 😂😂 I watched this twice, while writing it out and had that “ 💡 “ moment when I realized you had drawn a giant E and G! I’m going to continue this so it sinks in before my 2/7 checkride!! Thank you!
Thank you for breaking this down this way! I'm currently learning this section with Gold Seal and this was broken down nicely.
I'm doing Ground School again because of Covid-19 and this is GREAT, reading the chapter on Airspace and needed help searched and found you and now you have a new subscriber!
Thank you very much. I'm really glad this helps.
Fly safe!
This is the best video on remembering airspace. Great job and thanks for the help.
The best way to remember and use on your written that I've seen..... Thank you so much for sharing!
Ya know. I watch your RUclips channel to be entertained. Now that you have violated my trust and very cleverly taught me a new trick, I’m going to have to buy a cirrus. My 53 180 will not understand why there’s so many rules
Dude! I know it's been a while since you did this but you should do more of these, my hat off to you bro, 'nough respect
Wow! This is great!! Just learning to fly and this really clicks with me!
Thanks!
This is awesome!! Been struggling with airspace minimums preparing for the test. This is GOLDEN!
Awesome. Glad it works for you.
Awesome brother. VERY helpful... thank you!!
Great little memory device you’ve made. Thanks for sharing
excellent explanation! thank you very much!
Brilliant! Thanks for sharing !
If there is a better way to remember airspace (without just looking at your kneeboard), I don't know what it is. This made it so simple to remember. Like you said, once you remember "3, 1, 3, C 5", it all just comes together. Amazing method! Thank you for making this video. Now I can just imagine the picture in my head and I can remember it all without even having to sketch it out anymore.
Getting ready for my PPL, you crushed the explanation. Thanks for the help.
I am glad to help. Thank you so much!
You just got yourself another subscriber sir! 🙌🏻 simplest one to remember! THANK YOU!
Thank you very much!
Instantly memorized with this technique. Well done.
This is awesome! Thank you so much. This makes it to easy.
God bless you for this idea. Like you, I’ve struggled to permanently remember all those numbers and all those other charts never simplified it for me. This is much easier!
Thank you. I am really glad to hear it helped you!
This is brilliant. Thank you very much for sharing
Did my PPL test today - was in a panic about how to make a memory aid in the test. Yours was the only one I felt I could reproduce and I did. Passed and I know the airspace questions were good. Made the aid before pressing go - thanks for the help
This makes me very happy. I am here to run a goofy, fun aviation channel but I am happy to hear so many people have found this helpful. Congratulations on Passing! What stands in between you and your checkride at this point?
@@JustPlaneSilly Its a short list - night flight, getting comfy with stalls. Probably mid/lave Nov for scheduling reasons.
This is awesome!! Really helped me understand this better. Had one of those "Aha!" Moments of actually remembering it. Thank you for putting this video out there!
Awesome and so simple. Very well done!
Nice work! Thanks 😊
Thank you so much for putting the time in doing this! It's a godsend.
Memorized the drawing in under 5min. Super easy to remember and very well explained. Thank you!!!
That pesky shadow (hand) in the video kept making me adjust my phone lol.
I USED THIS METHOD FOR MY PAP KNOWLEDGE TEST. AND IT HELPED ME PASS MY FIRST TRY!!!!!
Thank you SO MUCH for sharing. This really made sense and is easy to remember. I'll be taking my knowledge test for my PPL in a couple of weeks and you can bet I'll be using this as a memory aid.
Thank you. I'm glad it is helpful. Good luck on the written. We need more female pilots. I hope you Ace it.
@@JustPlaneSilly Forgot to update you! I got a 95% and have my checkride this Monday! :) I ended up actually using this to help on the exam. Also, apparently some guys know you out at Boerne Stage where I fly out of! Thought that was cool. Thanks again for sharing.
@@erika8u wow! That's awesome. Good luck on the check ride.
@@erika8u People actually admit to knowing him? Oh! You must be referring to the valet service at the FSDO.
Thank you! I'll be using this on my written
This sticks and takes minutes to learn. Keep using it and eventually you will commit to memory. Good stuff!
Very helpful, thank you for posting
This is way easier to grasp than the triangle. Great method! Thank you
Make a lot more sense, thank you so much for sharing it !!!
Outstanding! Thank you
Bingo! We have a Winner! Excellent method that made it really easy to memorize. All others I've seen so far, are impossible to figure out, much less memorize. Thanks for creating/uploading this!
David Steinberg thanks! Glad this works for you.
I'm more "visual", so being able to "see" the spaces drawn out makes it much easier to recall the numbers that are associated. The numerical chart and/or the silly food pyramid thingie just does NOT fly with me!
