I absolutely LOVED HER. And as a kid, I watched this show BECAUSE OF THIS WOMAN Karen Grassle. I wanted a Mama like the character she played. And it seems like she was really that way in real life. Over the past 40+ years I’ve NEVER heard an ill word about Karen Grassle. That is almost unheard of in Hollywood. GOD Bless you Karen. Thank you for the years of your work.

I am very happy that she had such a wonderful experience on LHOTP. I never missed a show. As far as the books by LEW those were hours of happy escape for me.

There was a lot of behind the scene dysfunction in her life. She and Michael had a falling out about her salary after the first or second season. He punished her by reducing her role .She said she would sit for 2 hours to get her costume, makeup and hair done and her scenes would be a couple of lines and her pouring coffee with the camera shot being on the coffee cup.She was drinking heavily and felt trapped in the show. She if she had walked out on a major series no one would hire her in Hollywood. This went on for two years before it was settled.
She was the best Mrs. Ingalls. She was a perfect choice. Her role as Mrs Charles Ingalls is also what helped make little house on the prairie so popular.

I havent read/listened to her book, but came here since I remember the show very well. As far as the show, it was mentioned too abt the off screen tension between her n michael landon, which id heard before and has been circulating for a long time, something about a salary dispute. One things for sure she absolutely nailed the role of Ma and whatever strife existed between her n michael off screen never showed up one bit on screen. A great show all around too!
