This another fine example of why I enjoy your videos. I never paid attention to "lug centric" vs. "hub centric". I recently purchased 5 new Goodyear Endurance tires at Discount Tire for our travel trailer. After returning home, I realized there were no wheel weights on any of the 5 wheels. Back I went. They claimed that they don't usually balance trailer tires (even thought they charged me for it!). Anyway, thank you Marion, you provide us with a lot of great information.
Thanks, 66 years old and never gave it much thought, but I think I just learned something. Worked on vehicles since I was 17. Enjoy your videos, thanks again.
Sir watching your little videos never gets old !! Because you are always throwing out new little snippets to keep the uneducated Educated !!! Well done Marion !!! I look forward to the next vid !!
Enjoyed this video as always. My previous 2004 Dodge SLT 1500 HEMI was ready for some new tires, so I liked the factory Goodyear tires and the smooth ride - decided to buy Goodyears again at a local tire dealer, but not a Goodyear dealership. Long story short, these new tires rode like a horse and buggy. Took them back for re-balancing at least three different times. They even swapped the tires on the rims around which made absolutely no sense - claiming my factory aluminum rims had a high spot. How stupid! Finally emailed a complaint to Goodyear home office in Akron, OH - I believe. A lady called me immediately and asked if I could take the vehicle to an authorized Goodyear dealership about 45 miles away. I did and they discovered All four tires were out of round! They installed brand new tires, no expense to me and it fixed my ride. I never knew factory tires of Goodyear quality would be out of round that bad. I believe they call it “runout”. If you have that problem again, jack the wheel up and spin it with your hands - you will see if the tire has a hump in it. If so, you might as well get another tire.
Another great video Marion! I have heard countless times RVrs are told by tire shops that they don't balance trailer tires! Well then it is time to look for another tire shop!!! Les Schwab will balance your trailer tires.
I can still remember my uncle fixing a vibration on a 63 Chevy about 58 years ago by putting a hose clamp on the drive shaft and turning the clamp until the vibration went away.
A company called Balance Masters has a new driveshaft balancer that uses quicksilver to automatically balance driveshafts. You put it on and it automatically counteracts the "high spot" in the driveshaft so you only have to go under the car once. Once installed, you really don't have to do anything further. It worked brilliantly for me.
I run Centermatics on my trailer. Some folks hate them, so far they have worked well for me. I have put about 15k miles on the trailer with them no problems so far.
Hey Marion, I’m a fan of your content. May I ask you to make a video of the do’s and don’ts/when and why for the “High Idle” feature for the Cummins? Thanks!
I have the same truck. Had a problem with vibration at 70pmh with the stock tires and my now coopers. I was running 65 psi in the front and 80 in the back.(ridiculous when not loaded) I did a tread test with chalk, now running 50psi in the back (unloaded) and zero vibration.
Hi Marion. Have you used beads yet for balancing. I have been using them on motorcycles, trucks, hot rods and even big trucks for years. Ceramic not napa glass. But great luck. Have a dryer on my air compressor for tires and painting stuff so it might matter. But those beads seem to find low spots and rebalance everytime. Winter up here in northeast might take a min on the bike but the work well if you put what the chart says to put in tyres. No damage to inside tires have i seen even at 55k. Hey great vids. 66 years old been in a family shop since i was 5….. still learn everyday 👍👍👍
Thank you for the video. Learn something every day . Just curious on the vibrations, are they constant vibrations, or to they occur on specific MPH . Just put some new FIRESTONE tires due to VIB on front end of my 2009 Dually along with a new hub/passenger side because the axle had about 1/16 play . Driver side was solid. Checked all bushings seemed ok. Still getting vibrations at 75 ... after new tires .
The old saying, two ears, two eyes, one mouth. The one that gets me, a drunk mouth speaks the sober truth. If you got a balance problem, look for match mounting to cure and watch for wheel run-out/tire hop.
You would think by now you would not have to tell a professional tire installer how to do their job but you do sometimes. You would think with todays technology the MFG could put the center hole perfectly in the center of trailer and aftermarket wheels?

Thanks Marion. I worked for you for some time and all advice you gave me still works for me today.!
What a nice comment. Thank you.

Yea, they ride rough on these Louisiana/ Texas I-10 roads with 65 & 80. Much better ride when loaded.

Haven't tried them. Static balance on my motorcycles. The beads are popular.
@@MarionBlair how's your DPF holding up?
Great Intel

Similar to the distinction on commercial trucks
Keep on with the videos 👍

One easy way to tell if its lug centric is if your lugs are acorn or coned. Those flat lug nuts are for hub centric.
Didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
See ms I remember ford and dodge rims interchanging.
Maybe they are, if the hubs are the same and wheel pattern and offset etc..., it would work.
Never mind what assholes think you are a cool old dude I hope I’m as cool and witty as you when I get to your age. Peace brother!

Exactly
