  • Goals from Gray, Birtles, Bowyer and Robbo saw Forest onto 4th Rd where they would crash out at the hands of Liverpool

Love seeing new footage of this great side. Robbo’s 4th goal! Sublime!

Superb piece of history here. Great commentary but my biggest takeaway was how much work Trevor Francis got through, alot of it defensive

this is flipping awesome - recently heard a naive Forest supporter on the Garibaldi Red podcast called "Greg" , who claimed Forest currently have the strongest squad in the clubs history following the latest transfer deadline ....... well he needs to look at this line up who won everything out there apart from the FA Cup

One thing which is immediately noticeable to me is the fact players do not get away with as much in these matches from bygone years. People like to make out that you could get away with more aggressive tactics back in the day but it simply isn't true. The foul which led to the free kick and the foul by Lloyd about five minutes in are evidence of this.
You also couldn't get away with the endless ankle tapping and shirt pulling back then. When a player gets the ball now, they often play it too quickly without much control because they fear they will be fouled off the ball and the player committing the foul will not be penalised. Players still pressured their opponents back in the day, but if they fouled they got penalised so this meant they had to be more careful with their challenges. I would argue this led to better tackling.
