This is the exact video I was looking for! I just bought a discovery 3 that needed a bit of work. I noticed this morning that it was on bump stops and the compressor wasn’t coming on at all. I’m going to pick up a test light and check, and if I get the same result as you, likely a new compressor. It looks like the previous owner whacked the compressor similar to yours so I’d say it’s met the same fate.
The compressor is a very week link in the system as tempting as it is don't buy a cheap aftermarket compressor mine has failed already and I've just had a customer who fitted a cheap one it didn't last 3 days also if you've got lights on the dash it will need to be plugged in before it will work properly unless you're really lucky. Thanks for watching 🙂 👍
@@retro.restorations Thank you for the reply, will take note when purchasing a replacement in the future. I was actually able to clean out the compressor and run it direct of 12v without any dramas. My problem is actually to do with the car telling the compressor to run. I replaced the relay but no joy. I took my old relay and bridged it on the car, and it would run the compressor fine. I now need to find out why the car wont tell the compressor to run.
I have good experiences of fixing this problem the compressor needs to fixed by 3 bolts into the frame then bolt to the chassis one of those bolts is a pita! I had an air dryer unit exploded on mine 3 years ago I had a spare so I managed to re fix it up until I sold it! Good video and love that you take on everything! My Series 3 is ready with new honed bores and new piston and rings, just lapping valves and then the rebuild! The Discovery 4 got a muffler delete and new Xbox and straight pipes now it sounds like a good V8! The defender has a nasty feeling in the front end I’m hoping it’s not wheel bearings! Keep up the good work! Toby
It's always uplifting (pun intended) to see a Land Rover getting sorted. I never have been a fan of air suspension on cars and 4x4's. One day, l expect you will upload a video entitled, New Generation Defender- Identifying Which One of 83 Computers is Duff and How to Replace it! 😆😆😆😆 Top video squire!
I think due to the extortionate price of the great pretender it might be along while until one graces my garage floor. Air suspension when working is good but you know that one day it will let you down and if it goes in the middle of nowhere you're screwed. 🙂👍
if only it were that simple!!!!!!!!!!!, I've replaced the pump, checked all the valves, wires, codes, lines plugs and all my pump does is come on for 15 seconds throw a code and pack up, if i cant get the rusted crap nuts off the back shocks, I'm scrapping it, they're impossible to get to and welded with rust, I guess Ill be hacking them off with a multi tool or something, give me strength
There an absolute nightmare 😫 theres always something wrong with them I'm going back to a discovery 2 td5 loads more reliable and cheaper to run and repair. 🙂👍

Looks like you've got your hands full. I'll take on anything and I like a challenge 🙂👍
@@retro.restorations I had an SE Tdv6 for 7 years so fairly knowledgeable about them lol 😂

Can you do it with a multimeter? As I don't have a test light
Yeah, that will work. 🙂👍

Major leak on that
The pump was at fault, its sorted now. 🙂👍
oh and I just decided I could have got the coil conversion for $200 less on Partsgeek than the Suncore ones I got, so more great news
