  • We have featured Jean Duby´s Peugeot 205 T16 Evo 2 before, alongside Sebastien Loeb´s Peugeot 208 T16 in a comparison video, but it´s now time to show this Monster by itself as it quite the unique unit even among the normal standards of this Group B Monster.
This is Chassis C216 and was raced by Michele Mouton and Juha Kankkunen on 1986 on Tour de Corse and the 1000 Lakes Rally respectively. After the end of Group B it would be transformed into a Rallycross Car, although even more important than that, was that it was fitted with a 1.9L Turbocharged from a Pikes Peak-spec 205 T16. Producing between 550Hp-700Hp depending on boost, it is quite the unique Monster and it was possible to observe up and close on the Montée des Lègendes 2018 event on France.

I remember my dad taking my brother and i one day for a ride in this exact same car as a surprise.
He took that car for a day from peugeot la garenne 92 france where he was working.
The car was parked in our underground parking lot.
I remember the rear view of the car with that massive rear wing taking the whole width of the parking space.
I sat on my brothers lap for that ride, with the engine roaring right behind our seat. We took a bridge called viaduc gambetta which was linking courbevoie to la defense at the time.. everybody was pulling to the right to let that beast pass them and have a look a it.
This memory is engraved in my mind to this day.
Thank you dad. I love you.

Wow, I could only watch VHS video of Group B from Canada because there was no TV station that would broadcast it live, and those sights and sounds literally imprinted on my soul. But your Dad took you for a ride in one?!?!? OMG that would have blown my mind! You are one lucky man! Even today when I my thoughts drift, I often find myself reminiscing about the Group B days. It’s cliche to say “they don’t make them like they used to”, but… they just don’t!

1980s 1.9 liter 600 hp is different from modern 1.9 liter 600 hp. Lighter and stronger components better lubrication. However, I bet that 1980s engine must be a hand full and a half and pretty fun to drive.

I had the chance to get into this same 205 Turbo 16 from Vatanen in 1987 (or 88) with a person who worked at Peugeot Talbot Sport and who was also in charge of testing the new Peugeot cars before their releases. He had an exemption to take the road with this monster, he came to a campsite near Pontoise (France) where he had his caravan and I had mine. He told me it belonged (at the time) to Jean Tod. He tuned the 205 T16 between 500hp and 600hp, we went to test it on the small country roads at around 180Km/h in certain places! A monster of power! An unforgettable memory.

Quattro was good, but didn't beat T16 really , you can't mess with a front-engined rallyecar against a mid-engined counterpart cause the center of gravity ... ! even in engine-note ,, the compareable acceleration from five-cylinder is weaker than four-cylinder cause revelations are rising quicker , you've shorter camshafts and crankshaft , lower masses to move and less inner friction than a five-cylinder .. !! even horsepower was nearly equal, T16 had same as Audi at least over 500 HP ! anyway , Quattro was good, specially when driven by RÖHRL !! grets from germany

This is not the same car as Alamaki raced, that would be chassis C209 if we are not mistaken 👍 But regarding the number of Pikes Peak versions built, it is super hard to reply as those cars were converted Evo 2´s which after racing on Pikes Peak were then converted into Rallycross cars in some cases, others dismantled and others reconverted into works-spec Evo 2´s.

... guess they would had pushed a little the displacement ... with 2.0 litres they would had achieved approximately ca. 700 HP + ... in less than 1000kg bodyweigh !!
