Just did this and it worked great! Symptoms I had: Long crank eventual start on 2nd or 3rd try Loss of power Loss of acceleration Intermittent fuel loss Crackle/pops After new pump installed: Fires up right away first try every time Truck drives like a dream Quick fast acceleration I dropped the tank from the ground but my truck does have a 5 inch lift and 35 inch tires on it. If you have an extra hand it will definitely come in handy. I used my jack to relieve pressure on the tank to get the straps off
More on Dodge Rams- Take note of the position of the old fuel pump before removing, and install the new one in same position so the gauge float doesn't hang up. With the old pump out, empty the tank. It may have water and sediment left in it that can ruin the new pump. If the plastic fuel line has a foam wrapping be sure to reuse or replace it otherwise the fuel line may rub on the frame rail or the underside of the bed. The black valve is a vent/rollover valve. It vents the tank to the evap canister through the black hose. The smaller black hose on the metal filler neck aids in filling the tank. It acts like a vacuum break. The metal filler neck also has a rollover/anti-siphon valve in it. Don't overfill the tank when refueling. You can cause raw fuel to travel through the vent valve and saturate the evap canister, which will lead to the charcoal in the canister to be sucked into the purge valve near the engine. Tanks for the video.
I’m doing this as soon as your part arrives. I’m going to be honest your part was about $80 cheaper than autozone and comes with this video! What a deal! Luckily for me I took my bed off. All I got to do is follow this to install the new one in and then figure out how to put the bed back lol. Wish me luck!
I've seen alot of maintenance videos on RUclips and you nailed it! This video is extremely informative and in-depth, not to mention the little tips here and there to make it easier
Thank you brother this is what I needed I just got the tank dropped and I using your video for reference the entire time! UPDATE: Got it fixed and now she's purring Thanks again brother.
When you put the new locknut on (manufacturers highly recommend replacing the locknut and gasket), you'll want to use a spanner wrench, then you won't have to bash it on. You can borrow one from an auto parts store.
I think it's going to be easier to cut a hole in the box than remove the tank. And of course they are calling for 1 - 2 foot of snow tonight. Thanks for the video, l learned more about the pump location on my plow truck.
I have a 99 dodge ram Laramie SLT with a 5.9L magnum v8 appart from replacing the fuel pump would it or is it ok with replace the fuel pressure regulator instead of replacing the fuel pump?
+Phil Neathway Thanks for watching the video! This would be good to do if there is any debris in there or for just a general maintenance procedure. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
I purchased a pump for my 95 dodge dakota, 3.9, its a five"round"pin, I need the 4 flat pin like you have, its identical to the original one that I'm trying to replace.
Thanks for all the details that you navigated us through. Just a question though. Shouldn't the gas tank be flushed of any trash that may be accumulated inside the tank over years. Thanks.
Holy S that thing is crusty! Not an ounce of undercoating on my '95 and it is perfect underneath. Reminds me why I am glad I don't live in the rust belt
So in your video, the connector piece that has the red clip was not damaged, but do any of you have an answer on what to do if it is or how to solve that issue
That what i did on my 1999 dodge ram . faster , no crawling around if you don't have lift ,same on 06 Silverado . i have done 6 in day . at 300.00 . at my brothers garage .He got lift but taking bed off is faster , I just raise it enough to work on it , stick the new one in , yes it better and faster
So I have a 02 ram 1500 5.9 L. The fuel pump is fine but one of the electric connectors is coming loose causing the fuel pump to stop working. I've heard this is a common issue with these trucks. Do you have any idea of the problem?
The valve is a rollover valve but it also vents the tank. The hose attached to it connects on the other end to the emissions evap. canister. And btw, there is also another rollover valve located in the filler neck. Some call it an anti-siphon valve.
Thats nothing, every once in a while I run across a tahoe or 4 door chevy truck that rust accumulated in the crossmember that holds the strap, nothing makes you feel more alive than having to cut rusty straps off, and fabricate new attachment points, because you already cant get the tank back in, and your boss told the customer it would be done by noon. 100% why I quit being a mechanic. Book time only works if the car isn't a rusty pile of crap.

Thank you for the info dude I'm fixing to put a fuel pump in my truck this morning
The way I do this is. I loosen the four bed bolts. And Jack the bed up from the front end. Gives enough room and easier in my opinion
Thank you so much for actually taking the time to show us how to do it from start to finish, Very much appreciated bro!! Your one of the good guys👍🏻

Not sure why you didn't remove any gas that may be in the tank and clean the tank out. Otherwise, great video with complete explaination.

Kinda looks like mine. I think mine is a bit better though

Tu video fue de gran ayuda!
So in your video, the connector piece that has the red clip was not damaged, but do any of you have an answer on what to do if it is or how to solve that issue
I did one on a 92 dodge Dakota and I just took the bed off the truck and changed it in 20 minutes. Can you not do that on a 98 Ram 1500?
That what i did on my 1999 dodge ram . faster , no crawling around if you don't have lift ,same on 06 Silverado . i have done 6 in day . at 300.00 . at my brothers garage .He got lift but taking bed off is faster , I just raise it enough to work on it , stick the new one in , yes it better and faster

7:17 the part called for this hole is the “Fuel Rollover Valve” right?

Are trq fuel pumps good how long can they last?
I ordered a fuel pump and it didnt come with the gasket or the plug it just came ith satin paint?
How do you know if it's your fuel pump or fuel pump module?
These Rams are all module
Do the 1994-96 models have roll over valves. Everytime i search for one it says it doesn't fit
7:22 What if your fuel send unit does not have that hole ?
I just put a new fuel pump on my 2 gen and it doesnt show how much gas in the gauge. Plz help
What happens if I made eye contact with him while watching his video is he still gonna steal my soul? Asking for a friend
What is the black thing on the top left of the pump that goes to the EVAP line what's it called
It’s easier to take the bed off then drop the tank. But good video
at 3.25 is the black hose removed a vent hose? Or a vent rollover valve?
The valve is a rollover valve but it also vents the tank. The hose attached to it connects on the other end to the emissions evap. canister. And btw, there is also another rollover valve located in the filler neck. Some call it an anti-siphon valve.
Could someone help me by telling me where i can get the rubber o ring that the fuel rollover valve at 5:20 please
what size socket required for the forward knot and bolt
I have a problem where I have power at my plug but when I plug in the adapter I lose power and the pump won’t kick on
7:53 You'll never know your fuel level again because you didn't install the float level indicator?
It's at the backside of fuel unit.
Can I use a universal fuel pump
Good job
+محمود شبيب Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Anyone know the location of the fuel filter on the 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7?
will this work on a 2004 ram
good tutorial
Thank you 😊
You forgot to mention anything about the fuel level sensor):
Wonder why they make u remove the tank when it would be easier to just lift the bed
hookeydoos.. love it
I just replaced my fuel pump, and it's still not starting, and thr little button to release thr pressure, there's no pressure building
Check your fuses or relay if not then eletrical issue can be a pain to look for
jesus the rust

can anyone tell me whats the name of the smaller hose at 10:45 .I know the bigger one is filler neck hose. thanks
it is a vent hose
The smaller hose attached to the metal filler neck aids in filling the tank. It is not a vent hose. It works similar to a vacuum break.
Looks like that truck ready to break in half
i replaced my pump and its still not enganging when i turn my key
👍
Could I remove the bed?
So is that the fuel filter I didn't find it outside the tank I am really hate hate hate dodges
