I loved this game as a kid, the music, the characters, the atmosphere..I loved everything about it. It's so nostalgic to see the intro after all these years

Try playing Hard Head, it's basically the Super Mario Bros. of Korea and it's much more bizzare.
This was a totally different game but Nintendo bought it and changed it to a Mario game.......that’s why it’s so different

@@tzarnick1507 this game did introduce some common things that stayed throughout the series, like Mario's ability to pick things up, throw turtle shells, etc, the Babombs we're first introduced here I think

Its based off an Arabic/Japanese Game called Doki Doki Panic which is why its so unique

Thats because its NOT a Mario game. The REAL Super Mario Bros 2 was never released in North America, only Japan. The real Super Mario 2 was a carbon copy of the original Super Mario Bros game in terms of graphics, music and character design. The only difference was the level layouts and it was MUCH harder than the first game. Nintendo America thought the real Super Mario 2 was too difficult for American’s because, well, American’s are kinda stupid, so they never released SM2 in North America. This game in the video is actually called Doki Doki Panic, a game that has nothing to do whatsoever with the Mario series. Nintendo just took that game, and changed the 4 playable characters from Japanese Anime type characters into Mario, Peach, Luigi and Toad, then slapped the Mario name on it, and fooled American players into thinking this was actually Super Mario Bros 2.

@@Yoshihelicopteryou make it sound so basic. Smb2 added onto music, updated several graphics, changed physics, redid menus, and some bosses changed too.
2 is always the love hate one. When I was a kid I never got close to ever beating it but I loved the game so much i remember playing it like it was yesterday.
If you subscribe to the nintendo switch online service then you can play this. Plus a library of many other nes snes n64 game boy and sega games. As a 6 year old i could never beat this game. However i recently finished it.
Mario 2 is the most unique entry in the series. A true original.
It’s NOT a Mario game. Nintendo America just took a Japanese only game called Doki Doki Panic and replaced the playable characters with Mario and his 3 friends and slapped the Mario name on it. This game has nothing to do with Mario.
This game was so weird. I remember playing part 1 then part 3 which seemed to be a natural progression, but then i played this, man, it was super weird....
This was personally my least favorite because this game is just a reskin of Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic.
The true Part 2 will always be Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels.

Like many, I absolutely love SMB2. To me it is one of the perfect examples of how a platform game should be done.
Since I'm an adult, I was kinda shocked to discover some people dislike it. Sorry but, this is head and shoulders better than the Japanese one. Is not even a contest. The controls alone leave the other in the dust, let alone graphics, music and the gameplay.
I finally finished this game after first playing it more than 15 years ago. Thanks for the walkthrough video.
You went through all of that just to see a man sleeping in his bed at the end of the game. lol It was funny to me to think that it was all a dream. This by far is one of the best Mario games ever made.

The potions in this game are probably part of the reason why the Super Mario Bros. Super Show involved magic, and there's also a Birdo in the first episode, as well as pigeons in the episode Mario's Magic Carpet, which could be the same birds in this game. Even the music from the main theme of this game is played very often in the show. This game itself is actually very interesting also, because it was not made into the typical formula of a Mario game.
And then you have the clearest influence from this game to the cartoons,the stories all starring Mario,Luigi,Peach,and Toad as a group of friends

I use to come home every day after school and conquer this game using all the warps. I did play it through the first few times and it was fun. I love part 2.
We used to call it the "LSD"-Mario, cause for us as kids it looked as if someone would be on a strange trip or these kind of fever-dreams you have when being ill....at least we imagined it to be like that...😅😮❤
In the cartoon, Super Mario Bros. Supershow, enemy characters from both SMB1 and 2 are included. The only exception is Wart, but Bowser is there.

In the U.S., we didn't get this game until 1990. So the U.S. release date is 1990.

Loved this game as much as the other Mario games. Btw, I can see why they decided not to release the "original" SMB 2 here as it was more difficult and too similar to Mario 1. I am glad they did release Japan's SMB2 as "Lost Levels" on All Stars for SNES.

This is the american one, the actual super mario bros 2 is japan exclusive and much more like the first super mario bros. Japans super mario bros 2 is also called super mario bros the lost levels.
The Japanese version of Super Mario Brothers was so much harder than the original that companies worried other gamers wouldn't be able to handle it. So they for the sequel took an existing game and inserted the SMB characters and elements into it. That's why it is WAY different from the first one.
