    I don't believe there is more magnificent and impressive sight than a 747 taking off and climbing out like this NW did. That was amazing!

    great planes and many different paint schemes. Old Continental 757 gold tail looks good. NWA 400 and DC-10 loook so good.

      Continental never had any 757s in the red meatball gold tail livery,there's a MD80 in this video in that livery but Continental never had any 757s painted into that livery all of Continental's 757s didn't arrive until after Continental adopted the blue tail globe livery

    I remember flying here late 1990. Flew in and out on a Continental 727. It was the first time seeing the A-320. America West had maybe four brand new ones parked with no colors on them yet.

    Airlines had more distinctive liveries back in the day, also way more aircraft type. Even seeing a Northwest 747 parked at the airport. Flying used to have so much more personality.

    This is a fabulous video of plane spotting at Sky Harbor International Airport. It was neat seeing some of the military flights as well as the civilian ones. Do you have any more of these videos with more updated action from Sky Harbor airport? Just curious. Great job once again!

    Phoenix was the first major airport I visited in 1991, when I was 6. America West 737-200 from ICT-PHX.

    Damn, what happened to all the widebody jets? Now we only get a handful (BA747s, Condor 767s, Hawaiian 767s and AA 330s)

    Good memories of being up in that observation area in the 70's - Hughes Airwest "yellow banana" planes and all. I tried planespotting in recent years from Cutter, but was quickly chased off.

    Those AA MD-88's were pretty when new. This was prior to terminal 4 opening when HP flew to HNL as well as Japan (Nagoya) on the 747-200's.sad we have lost most of these carriers. All the DL 727-200s were SLC based WA aircraft this was long enough after the merger to paint them all in DL colors. Canadian was created with a merger CP Canadian Pacific with Pacific Western, it was a excellent carrier based in Calgary. I miss them all TWA, NWO, HP, CO, and so ,any more

    I miss the days of DC-10's, 727, MD-80's, 737-200's, 757's, 747-400 and KPHX. Now it is 737-500, 737-700, A-320, A-321 with the 767 in the AM with DHL and HA and RJ's all day ling. Also to think NWA, PSA and HP are now US, UA is CO, AA is in Chp 11
    Was that a AA A-300 in the maintenance bay?

      I think that was an a300, I don’t know of any other American planes painted instead of bare metal at the time

    Wow, an Air BC BAe-146! I actually flew on one unintentionally, as it was subbed for a NWT Air Lockeed Electra I was deliberately trying to fly on. I was not happy. PHX still allows rooftop planewatching; no one hassles you. Too bad the aircraft today aren't as varied or interesting.

    Missed the American Airlines MD-80 at Phoenix. They replace by Airbus A321 or Boeing 737-800.

    What Terminal were you at? I saw the North Concourse areas from Terminal 4 and a concourse from Terminal 3 and I believe I saw the Temporary concourse at 5:35. I was not there when Terminal 1 existed but I do know that T1 and T2 had an observation deck (I heard about it from people who was there at the time of Terminal 1, 2 and 3).

    I remember when that Hughes Airwest hangar seemed to be almost in Mesa, now it's gone, replaced by another concourse.

      The NW 747 often headed to Minneapolis St Paul. It’s crazy, but it appears we got the NW 747’s and DC-10’s very often. The craziest part, the first ever 747 built, went to Northwest Airlines, and it’s first flight was a MSP-PHX run!

    Spotting today is so incredibly bland and boring. Nothing but Scairbus', regional jets and 737NGs. Awful stale malaise compared to what I remember years ago.

    I miss those old jets to. But airlines took such a financial beating in those days. Now it's all in the name of efficiency. 2 high bypass engine 2 pilot boring ass quiet jets. But now the airlines are making a fortune.

    All that video, and only ONE shot of an AmericaWest Airlines B-737-200 departing? Phoenix was their Home base. You couldn't take a couple more with say the -300 or a B-757-200 or even the Dash 8 coming and going. That's not a very sporting way to treat the Home Town Airline.
