    Update south Carolina you can find gold in many of the creeks. No rules. I've never cared to chase colors where there are restrictions. Over 40 years at it. Before Oceana took over Haile gold mine, I ran all around the area. Folks welcomed me onto there land. In North Carolina, I enjoy searching the old mine sites around Indian Trail, Charlotte area, on up around Reeds gold mine area. Finding gold in Union county tickles my gizzard moreso, because that's where I'm from. Restrictions? That's up to you individual as far as I'm concerned. I guess it's the "Rebel" in my blood!

      @@JustThisGuy42 The only place in that area that I have tried is the Nolichucky river. I didn't find any, but I only did a few pans. Maybe try Doe creek as well.

    I was doing that in Creek in Maggie valley. I found gold, but I thought it might be fool's gold I had no way to check it.

      That's great I'm happy you found this video and commented. The best way to tell the difference if you haven't figured it out is by the color. Gold will not tarnish copper will have sometimes an iridescent to Brown look that gold rarely has. Yhe hardness is another way to tell pyrite will most likely fracture into a cube or a straight edge when gold will just smash and stay rounded. There is a lot of gold in North Carolina especially in the gold belt. Using a magnet could help you distinguish the difference.

      @@HighCountryRocks thanks a lot of it was flakes & soft some was all over rocks like in it stuck to it. So if it's gold it will stick to magnet? Thanks. If it was gold there was a lot of flakes of it.

    • @HighCountryRocks
      @HighCountryRocks  2 года назад +2

      No the magnet will separate the minerals from the gold leaving only the gold by itself the magnet will attract most of the stuff that fool you.

    Where can you find the laws for the forest, and I was wondering if you are in a boat or kayak on catawba river if you can you pan in the river

    • @HighCountryRocks
      @HighCountryRocks  Год назад +1

      I think the N.C. National Forest rules are posted on their website. You should be perfectly fine in the Catawba River. You are almost always good to go with a gold pan. They regulate the size of the shovel In the National Forest to a( D handle )I want to say under 30 inches but don't quote me on the inches. You can't use a dredge in national forest in North Carolina from what I read.

    Does anybody have any recommendations on where to go below the Blue ridge parkway

    • @HighCountryRocks
      @HighCountryRocks  2 года назад +2

      You just have to respect the laws and look into Pisgah national Forest. Absolutely nothing can be collected on the Blue Ridge parkway or Wilson Creek. They're pretty strict about their laws needing to use a d shovel and hand panning only. It's hard to find a heavy deposit in those those tributaries on the higher elevation side of Pisgah National Forest but there is some color.
