  • Hello Art-family,
    I have a couple classes coming up in the new year so I thought I would share a recorded demo I did for a recent class I taught called "gouache from the ground up." This is week 1 on the foundations of working with gouache.
    In 2023 I'd like to teach more classes but I'm starting in Janurary with a watercolor class about the changing light in different seasons and a gouache still life class that focuses on found objects around the house.
    Feel free to reach out for more details or to check if there are any spots left in the classes.
    Thanks for watching.
    Happy sketching,
    Jared

    I m so glad I found your channel! You have a good way of breaking down information and making it less esoteric.

    Windsor Newton Designer’s Gouache. Good stuff. Pro grade. Clean finish. Competitive price points.

      They are great and some big box craft store sell them and usually have good coupons to get them cheaper. I use m graham personally. Just like the brand but WN is great.

    I paused to write down the colors of gouache he mentions around 35:00 and thought I'd share for anyone else who was interested.
    Since there isn't a closed caption available I apologize for any mistakes in advance. 😂
    Nickel azo yellow, yellow ochre, napthal red, alizeran crimson or carmine, holbein pink, ultramarine, cobalt blue or cerulean, lavender, burnt sienna, burnt umber, ivory black

    This was great. I just started painting with gouache. Maybe I’m missing it, is there a way to get the rest of this course?

    • @JaredCullum
      @JaredCullum  2 месяца назад +1

      I don't have a way right now for the rest. It was a class I taught live. I have gouache demos and tutorials on my patreon but no pressure to join, of course. :)

    You don’t have to be fast to get smooth blends with gouache, you just have to use the right brush. The soft sable brushes make blending edges very easy

    • @JaredCullum
      @JaredCullum  Год назад +2

      Right- thank you. I must have worded it wrong. I wasn’t talking about blending in general. I was referring to a specific lush blend that oil does naturally that is harder to get with gouache even if you soften and blend. It’s pretty hard to put into words what I’m talking about without showing it.

    • @cmeblu75
      @cmeblu75 Год назад +1

      @@JaredCullum I’m not familiar with oil paint, maybe this is why I don’t understand the difference in blending. This tutorial has a wealth of information, especially for those who do a lot of mixing with white when using gouache (me!) The color mixing made sense though because the way you’re teaching it here is very similar to how I paint with watercolor.

    Right now I am just using Masters Touch Gouache and so far it’s been an enjoyable experience. I am curious as to how much better the experience is with higher quality paints.

    I have a box of 'Finest Artist's calligraphy gouache" by Schmincke, can I use this as regular gouache or is there a difference I should be aware of? Thanks

  • @ginabisaillon2894
    @ginabisaillon2894 Год назад

    I need a box because the gouache I use comes in pots and I have to transfer it, especially since I plan to do some plein air painting very soon.

    what brand of brush are you using? it's a 1 inch flat brush right?

    • @JaredCullum
      @JaredCullum  Год назад +3

      Yes- I like the Raphael Kaerrel brushes for gouache.

      @@JaredCullum thank you! I like the color value thing very useful if it isn't too much to ask what kind of red you were using? cad red light?

    • @JaredCullum
      @JaredCullum  Год назад +1

      @@Vengurl09 Napthol red- but only because it came with the m graham starter kit and I just kept rebuying it. I like cad red too. : )
