This is called an Advance Fee scam. It’s not specific to the music industry and people have been falling victim to this since forever.
smh
this comment needs more likes man
'I usually charge $250 but today I got a special offer for $50, you wanna work? ' 😂
LOL
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Classic
Zaytoven
facts bro, the most scam shit i’ve got is the fake Nardo Wick manager or producer trynna scam me for a placement with him. Producers please don’t fall for the “easy” ways to get your placement especially with the big artists, double check all the info and then make a decision
SMH
just dont pay for someone to use your beats 😂
because yall so DUMB yall dont even know you are ALREADY IN PLACE!!! Just make your music, control your own and start OFF with a SELF OWNED attitude...the industry is like pimps on the street they ONLY take advantage fo those who dont now their own WORTH...I learned that in 1992
From "I want to buy your beat" to "You gotta pay me to be on your beat". Triggers me bad, I wish all you fellow producers make your dreams come true. I'm sitting pretty on a big catalog and am listener supported now so I'm happy not to have to chase sales and placements anymore but I do remember my 25yrs of this, be careful out there and believe me your beats have a lot more value than you think once you zoom out of trying to get placements/sales only.
Nice
Interesting take.
What does listener supported mean exactly ?
@@mozinga Cheers, it means I do between 100-200 million streams a year on the DSP's for many years now. No more selling beats/seeking placements. And because the streams are so big, my whole catalog is worth M's now too, another important reason I stopped selling/placing beats, it's all mine no dilution and ready to exit when I want to sell it all.
I remember getting scammed by Jermaine Dupri some years back. He had an audition in Dallas for one of his new artists, Dondria and he charged the musicians to audition. I remember one of the judges was one of my friends ( not anymore) and some years later, he finally confessed that the audition was a scam. He had already gotten the gig but was paid to be a judge, knowing the whole time he already had the position. The music game is an evil place man and they will take advantage of your ambition and determination. Beware. P.S. I also heard Adam Blackstone used to have paid auditions as well... SCAMmer
Wow
cam james has a good video about this topic
No Limit did this before in 2010
Kills me that this shit is happening 18 years after i got hit with shady shit on beats. I got made to send the multitracks out, Then had my chops and samples jacked from that session an used for a placement with no credit 😮💨 took me a long time to recover for that backstabbing hit.
wow
I remember when I started producing and I would get DM‘s all the time asking if I wanted to collaborate, so I’m like “ sure, I’m down “ next thing you know they’re trying to get me to pay $300 for a damn collab that’s not even guaranteed placement. That’s also a big problem.
that’s not a scam though that’s just people thinking they’re bigger then they are, it’s not like they’re lying to you
@@gggz420 Sometimes it depends. I get what you mean that they're egotistical and that they feel entitled to charge you a high price because of their credentials but also sometimes people do scam in that situation as well.
@@gggz420 its a scam even producers with placements cant guarantee you a placement
@@gggz420 You just defined a scam… Imagine reaching out to ppl then begging for money. Then calling you broke because you refused to pay.
Just happened to me yesterday
This happened to me 3 years ago. I was hot, but also ignorant to the fact I was getting scammed. Definitely way more knowledgeable now & know better. That’s crazy!
insane
On god same here but the Ls turn into lesson

Bad Actors like to try to play on the "shortcut". If you are in a hurry to get paid, likely you are a target. When things smell or feel wrong; likely there is something wrong. As someone else pointed out, the "advance fee scam" has been around for years in every business. Before getting into any agreement, research the Parties involved the best you can and take your time to decide. Thank you for sharing your experience with this sort of bullduggery.
Thx for this crucial info! It's unfortunate that some people will put their energy into predatory tactics, and rob people out of their money, when they could take that same energy and cultivate real working relationships that benefit everyone involved, and do much better for themselves in the long run. On a different note, I downloaded your flp from a couple weeks ago and flipped your trap beat into a Jersey drill beat, and I know it needs to be posted by tomorrow, but I'm not sure where to post it. Could you plz lmk? Thx!!
send it to my email nilewavesmedia@gmail.com
@@NileWaves Word, I just sent it to you. Thx for the project!!
Watch out for the scams, thank you Niles for this info I've been a victim but didn't fall for it lol
Nile* but no problem
Thanks for this, just happened to me this morning and wasted zero time on it 😅👍
I honestly fuck wid your work Brodie, you a real one 4real.🔥 love from South Africa
I've been making beats since i was 19. Im 32 now. Ive learned more from one of ur videos then I have watching busy work beats. Facts
Thanks so much Nile. I think I have been scammed already twice by producers asking me for money to collaborate (like $100) and then asking me for other 1k in order to pay the artist a&r for the placement. It seems that everyone wants money and nobody wants just genuinely listen to the music. Is it really like that now?
I always ignore people when they ask me to pay
The right way
you can't be careful enough.
they play with the hopes and dreams of musicians. They are looking for naive or gullible people
great video!!
thank you
We really need a union for producers cause shit a whole business and they take advantage of us
Facts, my department at my day job just unionized and we haven't done any negotiations yet and it's already getting better. When people stand together they make a huge difference. Fat cats in the suits don't want you to know that.
facts
Nile for the people 🔥✋
Yung Mac!
I dealt with the article scam, and quite frankly it's a slap in the face to go from hearing someone praise your work after feeling unseen/underappreciated as a producer to asking for payment to do something THEY contacted YOU about. If I was looking to pay for a service, I would be the one reaching out. I don't get it.
ppl fall for it
You speaking the truth here bro... all reading this also be careful sharing polictical material on social media I had 50k IG Followers and 1YT subs (latin country) and now starting over. Haters will report your handle ..BOOM
I got those ones, my favourite one is the emails I get saying they can get me a placement but I gotta pay like you hitting me up asking me for money. 💎👍🏾😂
LOL
THANK YOU!!! Really appreciate these kind of posts as they are greatly helpful to keep someone from being scammed. If someone approaches in this sneaky manner would it be best to not give them any of your music and to request to see the contract first? Hope you don't mind the question but if you are new to the game, don't have a manager and lawyer and they are just dealing with you, do labels complete all paperwork and financial transactions first before they ask you to submit your beat and stems or do you have to submit your music first while you await the advancement and finalization of the contract? Or do they just stall and not pay despite these being contracts from legit labels? Thanks in advance!
Your music being out there isn't really that big of an issue. Usually, artists will request beat stems before any paperwork is done. That's not really a problem. You should never have to pay a label to get paperwork done though.
@@NileWaves Thank you for the clarification!!
Bro this is all facts
crazy
Thanks king
One thing to also beware of is the entourage trying to get your money too. They’ll have the following of the artist they claim to get your music to, the comments, the pictures, etc. They’ll have the blue check before you could pay for it. Yet, they’ll still try to scam you, especially if you don’t already have motion to be able to put them on blast at a high level. Had CJ from Drake’s camp trying to get me with a reused Chris Brown and Trippie Redd record lmao, I threw the lyrics into google and found the record and verified my weird feeling about it all.
Make your own label, pay for the trademark, lease, or sell your beat for your price, never fold for a price on a throw away unless you can afford to
Sadly I’ve personally fallen for the fake Magazine scam. Some guy pretending to work for a hiphop magazine got over 200 out of me
Im glad i took my music business certification at NYU so i know not to worry about this stuff 😂
Man y’all watch out it’s a paypow one where they dm you try to by the beat then tell you you got to give the money back
Then it fucked me up when they got a fake email
Y’all stay safe
Nile got the wave

Facts meh g 💯💯💯💯

This is what gets me. And is so hard to find people to work with. How you gonna ask to work with ME and then tell me i have to pay for this n that its never sat right with me. So i never really replied back into it
Yea they fishing for suckers
5:38 ppl really be doing that😂😂😂
Timeline bro u kno what im sayin 🤣🤣
ive definitely thrown an acapella over my beat but jus to see if it was usable in general not to flaunt
That's a great method for sure
hey man appreciate that thanks for the response my guy 🙏
Generally, i would only send a “low fidelity version of the beat. If they want a better version or stems they gotta pay the fee .. then we can discuss terms after. If they can’t do it like that … then there’s no beat. That seems to be the only leverage a producer has prior to clearing a beat for the label. 10:38
facts, cuz I’ll be getting these sent to my email
yep
THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS!
I got scammed $500 recently in another way. I write songs. So
I was looking for a producer to make beats/melody for one of my songs.
I contacted this music studio in Longisland NY, the MIX PALACE.
to make it short. We agreed on 10 hours work, the owner signed my contract. I booked 2 hours the first time... I got to studio, GUESS WHAT?
The guy they claim is the producer CAN'T MAKE MUSIC!!! He play the keyboard like a baby 😢😢😢
After 1 and half hour this dude couldn't make one single beat! He even made me sing over someone else music...
When I asked my money back you guess... so now I'm going to sue...
THAT PALACE IS A SCAM!
most things on their website are not accurate. Don't go there!
Please share this!
Wow
Hey Nile!
This is something you can do?
No, not the scam 😊
Can you make beats from an acapella french song?
I actually sent you an email about it
Hey! I got a contract im sitting on.. got them to change a few thi gs but they want my entire project up front for 50% royalty AFTER they rrecoup their expenses including rep and distrubution. I got alot of cash invested in this. Im selling but one man band. Shouldnt i get paid for the physical masters? It dont make sense to me like they pimpimping my art
Thank you.
np
My question is, do you have to pay for placements? That sounds flaw. Somebody hit me & tried to charge. I never heard of paying for placements
No u don't
I almost got Scammed by the Game a couple years back. He had some kind of Mixtape thing going were unsigned rappers had the chance to get on I had to pay 400 Dollars to secure a spot on the Mixtape. Turns out it was gonna be a soundcloud mixtape and it never was real project not even the soundcloud mxtape
Broooo I literally dealt with this from 2 mainstream producers and labels last year
thanks for this video
np
I never pay to those guys though, how the reality is? Is it the nature of music industry? Producers ask for money for placement without any guarantee? I really want to know.
There's a lot of scammers
The process is exactly how you put it down. Scammin at an all time high …bruh 😂
one of these kind of scammer is a person you recently got placement with rich kid , He asked who can do drums on it I Dm him he ask for 30$ for it I think like dafuk I put my money on it for whst the reason you ain't selling me a loop
i got a scam email from someone posing as cardiak 😂😂 i knew it was a scam when i had to pay for a “guaranteed placement”
The source magazine 😭😭😭
SMH
This same guy every time i swear
@@Reggi_Sample I hate them with a passion 😭😭😭
Sad part is there are actually mainstream rappers doing this. During covid whoever manages The Game's official IG tried to get us pay him $350 to listen to our beats.
Pyrex whippa a fire producer n was offering $100 collabs, long story short we dm back and fourth, i sent the $100 with some beats tryna get the collab going and mans didnt run nun, nothing at all
damn
What about royalties? Are you asking for royalties or do they just bring it up? When would you check your PRO?
That's discussed during contract negotiations.
Bro you should do fixing beats for subs or some🔥🔥
Fax 😂 I just recently revived my passion & got 3 emails and 2 dm from 3 A&Rs for a Tyla beat & a strap beat I made 😂
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥New subscriber
Pay me and I'll get the beat to so and so. I saw that a lot when I was on Instagram. Read the book propaganda. I know it's reading but the guy who wrote invented product placement or advertising. It's important to know how they trick you
This video must b a message cause I just received a email about a NBA youngboy placement but wait I gotta pay a mandatory placement fee of 59.99 FOH😂😂
lmao someone tried to do this to me. I was like why you lyin? he was like yea you right ur music is ass.
Happened to me like 3-5 times last year .. seen it was cap from a mile away
sheesh
I remember an A&R tellin me he's in Nipsey's camp so I'll be able get my beats heard to Cory Gunz. Keep in mind Nipsey died a month prior.
“im not a youtuber…im not a youtube guy!”
real one
🤝
Can you ask royalties on the song?
Nahhh fr I did got scammed before 🙁
What up Nile
watup
if anyone asks “what’s your budget” claiming to be from a major label or affiliated with someone else who is affiliated, just save your money.
Affiliated with someone who is affiliated is crazy
Shoutout the Zaytoven scam🗣
First red flag should've been Label tryna clear a beat. They don't clear beats they just drop and ignore you for 8 months 🤣
Artist and producers talk money first not last
wym by that?
@@NileWaves get the money talk out the way so it doesn’t interfere with the cooking up process. I seen and done both sides as a producer and artist we will be so excited about something. We tend to always skip over business and then surprise when shit don’t work out on the money end.
just got my ass on this scam. Irked me to the core.
ahh man
@@NileWaves Crazy cause I knew it was too but a piece of me's like it's only 150 lets take the risk and see how he acts. Then he asked for another 150 and I was like damn got me.
bruh i honestly don’t really even feel bad for y’all how can you be this stupid 😂 why would YOU have to pay for a beat YOU made
well dam no.cap
Every now and then ill have rapper hit my ig asking for exclusive rights for some cookup beats I did.. I want to know if this a scam or legitimate artists? Idk lol
Most of the producers will get 1 or 2 placements with major artists and scam up and coming producers their whole life.
A fake person emailed me about a beat i made in 2019 saying he wants to give to a rapper he working with... funny thing is know the whole management team of that artist bc 3 ppl i know are signed to their label... i called this guy bs n he blocked me lol 😂 how u want my beat but i gotta pay u 350
Bro I kid you not, Scott Storch and Zaytoven are running this scam. 🤦🏽♂️
I had this happen on Instagram... fake A&R/DJ from Hot 97. Felt shady from the start. When looking into it further, I checked to see if the dude was legit, and I noticed that the name he claimed to be was misspelled compared to the actual guy from hot 97. I confronted this guy about it, and he went ghost. Lol. Like the saying goes...if it's too good to be true, then it's probably not.
Many producer fails because they mix beat.
Im not gonna lie, im trying to figure out how to get placements without spamming artists or getting scammed like they tried yesterday 😂
my recent video speaks on this
Same thing happen to me in my New Business, I pick up selling T shirts. It's about 35 people hit me up claiming they can get me more views and world wide marking its a shame. I didn't replay to none. How you gone charge me for my creation and setting up my store when I have it already set up. Plus on top of that I'm a Music Producer and Indi Label. I saw you coming a block long. Ooh I'm under my T-Shirt RUclips channel. I'm Gatlin Production owner of Sellabeats
Just be like my terms are pay me within 24hrs record label or the contract is void. Why agree to 30days. They just going to forget about you. Stop playing with your money
they tried me 3 times, I told them I'm the one who supposed to be payed
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Scott Storch does sketchy stuff allllllll the time on instagram. I respected him so much but he’s been peddling all sorts of bs saying he’ll pay you money. But he doesn’t
