- If there is a high risk of getting malaria your doctors will tell you to take some medications used for malaria prevention. But if you talk to other travelers you often hear stories like people getting nightmares, depressions and many more side effects. During our trip through Madagascar we had to take malaria tablets for three weeks. In this video I shortly review how it felt like to take malaria tablets and which side effects we had to deal with - none. A little stomach ache maybe but that's it. Malaria prophylaxis is important if you check out the malaria map of the world, but don't let people scare you!

i was more worried about the side effects of the pills rather than getting malaria, but thanks to your vid i think ill take them, thanks alot!
+Akeem Oviahon yeah some people say they had really bad side effects. But I believe the medication changed and becomes better. Of course if I don't need to I try to avoid medication but for some countries it is really necessary. Give me some input ;) where are you going? For example for Southeast Asia you don't need to take it in advance....you just take some with you in case you get malaria on the way. But don't worry about the side effects.
This video help me alot to relax with taking these pills, thanks. And now I'm even more excited for Madagascar!
That is awesome! Madagascar is one of the greatest places to visit enjoy it! Don’t forget to check out my Madagascar videos and don’t forget to stay at the Samantha beach lodge
Loved this video. lol Getting ready for a trip to East Asia and I'm not sure what I should do.
+Alleah B. Thank you so much! I hope this helps you. We didn't take them in Southeast Asia. We had some pills with us just in case,...of you get really sick see the doctor as they can give you local malaria pills. ...always good to have some with you as a back up ;) and don't worry too much! When are you flying?
Well that's good to know, maybe I will just do that. I'm going to Loas, Cambodia and Myanmar. I was exicited to see that you have some videos about those countries. I look forward to watching them. :)
yes,...check them out and if you got any further questions let me know!
Alleah B. I’m curious did you choose to take the malaria pills before Laos? I am leaving soon and am struggling to make a decision hahah.
HowTube thank you for an amazing video! I’m visiting Laos and they recommended I take these pills but the problem is, I’m going during dry season and there don’t seem to be an outstanding amount of cases in Laos. What’re your thoughts? I completely understand you’re not a dr
Thanks.
I discovered if I take in total 4-5 tablets of chloroquine I do get very mild side effects but if I take a complete dose of 8-10 tablets the side effects increase much (mostly sleep is disturbed, itching)
I would like to go to Madagascar. Amazing!
please go!!! we loved it! I made many more videos about Madagascar on my channel!
Thanks! I will check out the videos and travel to Madagascar!
This guy is really funny. the video did help. Cute!
haha thank you so much!! I am glad the video helped you :)
He’s super cute
SIDE effekt, I didnt have when I was 30 , but had them later on . maybe is because of age . I had nightmares . horrible. and a friend had vomited. I dont do it any more. I use repellents.
Your cute man
+Roberto Cavalli hahaha! Thank you! Good this calmed you down ;)
I'm going to Nigeria and there's a good bit of malaria there and I'm worried give me an advice I'm definitely taking those tablets I don't want to get malaria
Hey so check the map if it’s a high risk zone. In that case get these pills. And take them like we did. Like in advance. And during the time you stay there. And go to the doctor
Canadian Armed Forces personnel found the drug MEFLOQUINE caused severe stomach upsets by six months and altered their ability to think clearly. There is ample science suggesting this drug and similar ones can cause full blown psychosis. The side effect do not always go away after stopping the drug. < mefloquineawareness.ca/action/ >
What happens when you get your medicine mixed with maleria pills who you don't have maleria
Valerie Carreon Many people who don’t have malaria take malaria pills including me. Most of which have Lyme disease. Most others take when traveling. For me the only bad things were an upset stomach and nausea at first. However I do have very very vivid and lucid dreams but not nightmares
Did you have to get a prescription for those pills?
+Stephen Lepek yes had to get one! Which was not a problem at all. Cheers
you are mixing up Malorone with Mefloquine. Malarone is the one you took. Very expensive, but usually mild side effects. Mefloquine is the one that causes vivid dreams/nightmares and other potentially long lasting or even permanent issues.
Please inform yourself properly before you give medical advice on you tube.
He is immensely confused about malaria prophylaxis. Please do your own research and disregard all of his advice.
My Malarone causes very very vivid and lucid dreams but rarely does it cause nightmares. Any negative side affect I had went away after around a week or so.
Very sorry to say Malaria drugs do have short term side effects and with wrong diagnosis could become complicated leading to long term
I leave in Nigeria. Most often people develop changes in their system 3 - 7 upward but hardly know that it is due to the drugs.Even doctors often miss connecting the dots
That was not really helpful was it. You should be mire specific.
How much do those Pills cost?
I paid 80 Euros for three weeks!
In which country did you buy this medicine?
Did you throw up at all, or just feel a bit uncomfortable?
I just fell a little bit weird in my stomach sometimes. But it was really ok! So you should go for Malarone, in case you need to take it.
bullshit, im taking right now.. and i feel like shit
+Sc0tty13 i didn't feel sh€& when I was taking them.
this drug doesnt have side effects for everyone.. for me.. 20 years later..i suffer everyday..be warned...
this sounds terrible. Now you scare me! What happened? What are your side effects?
+HowTube just look up mefloquine side effects / remington nevin this drug sends you to hell
@@sk-skSKsk you're talking about mefloquine also known as Lariam, the guy in this video took atovaquone proguanil (also known as Malarone), its a completely different anti-malaria drug. Because of the side effects, mefloquine isn't used a lot anymore these days
6 min video and the actual video starts after 2 min
....Are you hight on something?
Nope
