I'm an electric guitarist who never knew a thing about classical. My teacher gave me this as a gateway-piece to the style. At first I thought he was crazy to think I could play this, but I've done my practice and I'm playing it in concert in two days. Wish me luck!
That's great, hope you're still having fun making music; there's so many great different styles. Dyens even wrote a tribute to Frank Zappa - "Hommage a Zappa", which has a flavour of FZ's sharp, devil-may-care style. But not the sort of thing I'd play to entertain people ;-)
He understands so well the essence of Tango and the carioca culture, its very impressive... this is the way tango really sounds, the phrasing is flawless.... i've seen so many people playing this song and other tangos, but the phrasing that gives the true feeling of tango, he understands it better than anyone.
This is a wonderful composition. Tangos are one of my favorite styles of pieces, and both the tasteful writing, and the flawless execution make this a delight to the ears.
no one plays it like him. i can play the song pretty well, but his nuances are what make it so great. hes simply amazing. his chopin arrangements are incredible too
I love this song!! I listen to it every time I can for the last two years, and still love it like the first time I heard it. I wish it would last forever. or maybe have a sequel.
I went to see Roland a few years back and met him back stage..I am a player too..he was aw-inspiring to me..and encouraging too.An exceptional talent to be sure!!!
"And if by some happy chance some extra, unwritten notes should stray uninvited into this tango, I'll bet my last peso that the composer would welcome them with open arms..." - Roland Dyens. The piece is actually quite fun to play, and, as a guitarist of modest means, I found it quite accessible. It's a flashy Tango that's great fun to play at parties. His notes on the back of the publication, as well as the music, are truly worth the price of admission.
I'm from Brazil and most of the people here hate Argentina (really don't know why), but we must conceive to the fact that tango's really beautiful. Congrats.
This is one reason why many people hate Argentinians, (not the country): "Saint Peter was in heaven welcoming all the new souls. A Chilean come and Saint Peter says: "Come, come my son where do you come from?"... "From Chile", said the chilean.. "Go ahead, welcome to Paradise" said St. Peter. Another soul approach and Saint Peter says: "Come, come my son where do you come from?"... "From Brasil saint Pete", respond the brasilian.. "Go ahead, welcome to Paradise" said St. Peter. Another soul approach and Saint Peter says: "Come, come my son where do you come from?"... "From Argentina Che Pete, can't you see?" says the argentinian. Saint Peter thought for a moment and later says, "Welcome to Paradise my son... I hope you like it!"
This guy is a complete genius. Its amazing how he bring in so many styles into one piece like this one and Fuoco the 3rd movement from his Libra Sonatine. He also makes dissonance sound AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I performed French Potpourri by Dyens with the RCM guitar orchestra in Toronto while Dyens was in the audience. Very great experience. At the time I had no idea Tango en Skai even existed but wow he was truly a great composer.
Of course he played it correct, he's the composer himself! The guitar, it's probably a Fanton D'Andon, based on the rosette and head design. What a beautiful instrument, both the sound and the look!
October 19, 1955 - 29 October, 2016. A great loss to the classical guitar world. Thank you for your music. Rest in peace Mr. Dyens. :'(

+William Jacobsen Good luck! :))
+Sindbad-the-Sailor Thank you! :) The performance is on my channel if you're curious.
This is definitely the gateway piece from Rock to classical. This, Spanish Romance and Asturias got me hooked.

Damn William I didn't expect to find you here :D
(you made an A7X backing track for me)

Mr.Dyens has effectively made me reconsider every aspect of my guitar playing. I feel unworthy of touching a guitar after hearing this.
Shut up and play your guitar- Frank Zappa
Yeah, just watch this and the phrase "I'm not worthy" came to mind.
Yikes, he's amazing.
Evan Ales Dyens would probably say that’s a stupid thing to say. Practice more.
His meter is perfect. Perfect.
Great master!
What a performer!
RIP Maestro. You added so much to my life. I've had no way to express it.
I replayed this once 20 times....Dyens will live forever.
My guitar teacher was playing this when I arrived for my lesson today and I now feel totally inadequate......what an amazing piece
god damn his dynamics are so perfect for this piece! its like listening to a dancer move, ever finger moves with such conviction.
Exactly, this is it. Those dynamics and the reverb from the room make this interpretation just perfect.
The speed, the clarity, the tango melody, simply prefection!
Magnifico!
What a phenomenal guitarist.
This is a wonderful composition. Tangos are one of my favorite styles of pieces, and both the tasteful writing, and the flawless execution make this a delight to the ears.
I remeber when I was playing super simple solos and now this is currently my Senior guitar solo for highschool. Time flies!
no one plays it like him. i can play the song pretty well, but his nuances are what make it so great. hes simply amazing. his chopin arrangements are incredible too
a wtf moment,69 dislikes by a performance from the Composer himself ? lol.. some people are never pleased.
nylonsteel hah! You're totally right! I had just the same thought)
+nylonsteel Dyens could not be great without a few haters
Wankers
Oh, I hate him for making me cry to " oblivion " if you haven't already heard it ? A must listen ??
Absolutely true dude...
Man! I haven't heard this song for years and years! I forgot how good it is!!!! Thanks for posting!

Total virtuoso! Roland is phenomenal here, composing the best tango piece for guitar! I love this piece!
Absolutely great. Dyens is one of my favorite players of all time.

cresta141 I totally don't get it...is it supposed to be saying Argentinians are overly prideful or something?
Troy Maynes He is implying the Argentina is better than heaven, so Peter can only hope that heaven will good enough.
I've watched many covers of this piece of music. So far this is the best version I've ever watched. Cool!
It should be. This is the man who wrote it
Sorry for writing in Japanese.Thank you for your uploading.
