I've seen this before, but edited. I didn't realise the Thai boxer in the first fight took such a tanking at the start. Two indescribably tough fighters.
I spent some time in Thailand years ago,and I am a huge fight fan,and former fighter.I spent many nights at this large bar in Pataya watching fight after fight. The fights went on every night, with the weekends getting the best fighters. The fights were brutal my any standard.Often the referee would lift the guy up off the canvas when he was dropped so the fight would go on.The sad part was that at the end of each bout, the winner would walk with a cup to the seated customers asking for money, but the loser just went home without being allowed to ask for money.
This is why I'm not too fond of the fighting sports. I love em for the excitement, but the human cost is just too crappy for my tastes. Some people see fighting - boxing, muay thai, etc - as their ticket out of poverty, but the truth is your win will send somebody back to the slums, and they might not ever recover, physically or spiritually.

if you watch Shaolin Monks do their "kung fu stances", some of their stances informs you that wrestling take-downs are useless to them in a 'real fight'. Shaolin monks and their horse stances, they can go really low to the ground and still very very balanced. The rock grounds where they train are deformed. You can see how hard they stomp so if you think a 'karate chop' is lethal, imagine the "shaolin feet" which to anyone with common sense will realize how much tougher a feet is compared to a hand since the feet is supporting your whole body weight at all times standing. then, there's the shaolin monk's "iron body". their whole body is tough as metal, not just their shins. so, that means muay thai no use to shaolin monks. wrestling take-downs no use. you can't get near a shaolin monk.
we're talking about real fighting. not bitch ass rules to protect white men fighting in a ring. don't want to see you guys bitch and whine like Rofus's ignorant brother after the fight when Rofus got chopped down like a fucking tree.

jon doe idiot.... Muay Thai doesn't practice ground fighting. I could say the same like bjj vs Muay Thai but no wrestling allowed and bjj would get destroyed
Damn so none of the americans ever fought a bout with low kicks allowed.. Did they at least have some lowkick experience/training? Up to a point I think experience plays a big part in being able to ''take'' lowkicks. I remember walking like a cripple and being sore for days when I first started training and that was only from sparring (with shin pads) lol. I can't imagine what it must be like to take your first real lowkick, in full force, from a world class thai fighter. Must'v been terrifying.. it really is amazing that they managed to stay on their feet for so long. Those were some tough dudes for sure.. btw funny how urquidez mentions that he tried to block a lowkick with his hands. I think like 99% of all fighters instinctively try that when they start messing around with legkicks for the first time (me included haha) great vid as always
Jimmie Spaargaren For sure these guys are tough fighters. I too remember my first full power kick on the heavy bag, these guys made them look so easy and painless.
Jimmie Spaargaren My life could be separated into two parts. The part where I thought "how much could a low kick really hurt?" and the part where I no longer thought that.
Jimmie S. "Have you ever seen one of these toys that when you squeeze it the eyes pop out? Well that's how I felt", I think this explains pretty well, and honestly I don't want to try it xD I loodek for it when I was younger, I had no chance and now I'm fine!
Yeah if i remember long ago. I remember certain kicks below the body was not allowed. But it also didn't help that because of those rules, some places that taught kick boxing, totally never taught barely to no low kicks. Because it could not be used in most tournaments back then, especially in U.S. But i am glad these fighters from other countries got to fight. Slowly Mixed martial arts was generating over time.
It may not look good but the low kick hits like an axe. I have seen so many other martial artists go down after a couple of hits and quit after realising that they were just going to keep taking damage. I am stunned at Roufus’ ability to take so many hits. He have been at the absolute pinnacle of his discipline. Incredible. Thanks for sharing.
The problem was because the preparation, since I believed those American fighter didn't know into what rules they would fight. But even with the low kicks and elbows or knees, the Muay Thai guy also clearly was unprepared with the hip throws, single leg takedow and suplex that he received. So that's why cross training is really important nowadays.
Lmao, what dummies. I practise my sprinting and endurance running everyday. Good luck trying to catch me to fight you. You cannot lose a fight if you never fight.

This is true ... unless you are checking the legs of a professional Thai Fighter who has trained for years kicking trees and lumber. Checking a kick with a raised knee works because it hurts the legs of the average kicker and breaks his timing. Now imagine checking a baseball bat with your knee, and everytime you did, the dude swings faster and harder... if you watch these matches, you can clearly see all the fighters were elite... the difference was the toughness of the tools.
Side horse stance is very vulnerable to outside leg kicks. Benny Urquidez used to use the forward stance against international fighters and kicked all of their asses. Cat stance is pretty effective in kickbox as well.
@@fishing4happiness610 You are correct. I learnt that in a Muay Thai camp in Thailand many years ago. It was fine checking leg kicks against someone of same ability, but against a Thai who had trained since the age of 4, and their legs were so conditioned. Of course, when they kicked they were so relaxed, like swinging an axe. And when they combined with feints to take your supporting leg out....I truly believe that all martial artists, like Karate, Tai Kwon Do etc should cross train in boxing, Muay thai etc. It is important to have eaten a few punches, so when it really happens, there is no shock factor, or turning away reflex.
It was not a sport. It an art of bare hand had been used in the battlefield in previous era. That's why it was designed and shaped to be this butality. The art was actually not been used only in the area being called Thailand these day but it was actually used across south-east asia region.
I see a bunch of idiots talking shit about how a Muay Thai guy won here...lmao if you guys allow him to use his full arsenal such as elbows or knees or clinch takedown or throw, This fight would end wayyy sooner than this. Just remember that Muay Thai was used in war back then when they lost their weapons, it's meant to kill not for sports lol xD
But being honest. If Urquidez had the chance to grapple and throw then. The outcome would had been clear. I mean, i love Muay Thai. But against a powerful puncher plus black belt grappler....
Benny the Jet is an absolute legend along with Bruce Lee, Gene Lebell, Ramon Dekkers and the rest of them. It is really difficult to prepare for a style that you don't even know exist. Imagine a country having practised a sport for 50+ years that is boxing with groin shots and no cup allowed. Very difficult to prepare for, you have to knock the guy out quickly or have insane pain tolerance or both to win.
JIESUS He deserves more than just a cookie. Muay Thai was one of the biggest factors when Thailand was building its kingdom and waging wars with neighboring lands.
Man huge respect to the kick boxer he took a lot of leg kicks with the shin and still was able to walk tough.I also training muay thai and after 3-4 leg kicks i cant take them anymore my quads just giving up.
It dosnt matter what style of fighting you take up. it depends on the fighter, not the style. In chinese we say most important is 1. fierce mongrel. 2. strength, 3. fighting style. The main aim to knock down your opponent first (streetfight)
@@mellowx82 LMAO! Did you just say leg kicks/Thai Boxing techniques were NOT superior to American Kickboxing/heathen Colonist Bullshito? You just made me spit my juice all over the place! :)) Thanks for that:)) I can understand if you were comparing Thai Boxing leg attacks to REAL American martial arts of the Indigenous people; like Capoeira and Jiu-Jitsu but they have leg attacks all through them and are superior arts compared to privileged Albino colonist Bullshit Kickboxing.
Roufus didn’t break Changpuak’s jaw with that punch. He broke his jaw on the second knock down. As Changpuak was bottom down, Rick illegally kicked him in the jaw at 1:03.
Hello everyone. The 3rd fight is also on RUclips, the one with Benny Uriquidez. Some things were interesting about that fight. First, that match lasted nine rounds, and it was well fought, but seemed relatively even matched. Second, I thought the throws were a reaction to the low kicks, but Benny was using some of them early in the match. Third, Benny didn’t use them as often, but at one point he was throwing his own low kicks, knocking the Thai fighter down with one of them. I was also seeing some Muay Thai style clinching, and the occasional knee thrown. Didn’t see any elbows, however. Four, there must have been a lot of Thais in the audience, because you could hear the cheers every time the Thai fighter threw a kick. The Thai fighter did connect near the end with a kick to the head that knocked Benny down, and the video ended shortly afterwards, so I didn’t see if there was more to the fight or if the riot happened soon afterwards.
In all these cases the American kickboxer had superior boxing while the Muay Thai fighter had leg kicks. Clearly, leg kicks work, but what is the real take-away? It's work the shit out of your boxing and work the shit out of your Muay Thai. More weapons is always better than less weapons. Great video BTW!
+kaguth In all those fights the Thai did not use more than 50% of their arsenal, i did not see any clinch, knee nor elbow ... would the Thai be allowed to fight with knee elbow and clinch all three would have ended with KO/TKO much earlier.
about the first fight there was no clinching so rufus had a huge advantage all the rules mostly was for him besides the low kicks since there was no clinching elbows or knees. Also rufus had what like a 25 pound weight advantage in this fight he looked huge compared to the thai guy
Damn, Benny the Jet is a badass. This guy is trying to clinch with me? Judo throw him to the ground. I think he was the only western kickboxer that was able to deal with some Muay Thai fighters even though he had no low kick expirience. Great video!
+Greg G Lol. That Muay Thai guy had horrible defence against those throws. Makes me appreciate how lucky we are these days to have MMA where we have to learn boxing, kicking, wrestling, grappling to be complete fighters.
Its amazing how back in the day you could be a 3x World kickboxing champion ,but never learned how to properly block a low kick? What a crazy time in fight history.
KB Strategy: Similar to boxing, lots of positioning, combos, try to avoid kicks if possible, deflect if not possible. MT Strategy: Kick his legs until they don't work anymore. I always love these videos, the MT guys are always sharks in the ring. The are so determined, so solid, they seemingly shrug off most hits. And then they just relentlessly pursue their opponent around the ring.
Winklejohn got his ass whooped, Rofus went down, but not without a hell of a fight, and Benny... damm, he adapted so quickly to the lowkicks, blocking them correctly with his instinct an fight IQ, he truly was the very best back then. Not saying any of these guys are pussys or anything, they are legends for a reason. I've become addicted to your videos, excelent work.
aaaaaaa Benny Urquidez is the GOAT American kickboxer and one of the top 3 GOAT Kickboxers worldwide Roufas a great champion himself but Winklejohn? nope no even close to being a legend as a fighter himself but as a trainer in MMA hes done well
Benny Urquidez showed what he could do, had this been a real fight, let's say in the street , even though the Thai fighter was destroying his legs, one of Benny's Superior slams in the street, and it would have been all over with ! What a total fighter he was !
American kickboxing leaves guys in long shiny pants saluting the crowd, Muay Thai leaves guys being dragged off into the hospital to get their legs repaired.
+DancerInTheHeart that is why american kick boxers get their ass kicked, seriously what a whimpy person u are, u are thinking abt health issues i hope u never get into a fight with a thai fighter cause then u will have real health issues, u idiot
Jason Brusch The thai people are not exactly known for their physical strength. It is a country where a significant percentage of men identify as part woman. The reason they may do well is because in their boredom and desperation resulting from living in squalor they wreck their bodies since childhood and develop a care free fighting style that sometimes is strong enough to overcome superior technique and intelligence. The american kickboxer most likely has a life apart from the sport and does not pick fights right after a concussion like they do in Thailand. With that said I have a lot of respect for the olympic boxers of Thailand who have often done well in the olympics competing in the toughest martial sport of them all, which is boxing. Those who suck in boxing can find consolidation in a large number of far more obscure fighting arts like thai boxing and kickboxing as the level of competition is far lower.
Many people don’t realize the living legend status in Benny Urquidez, all these guys, Thais and US are legends, at that time if the elbows were allowed the damage to the US guys would have been even greater , but all said and done, Benny is in my opinion important to martial arts as Bruce Lee
Nowadays kickboxers use low kick combos a lot and have learned about muay thai . K1 fighter knocked out Buakaw with boxing . Kickboxing has definitely evolved for the better.
Ups a triggered American fanboy who fails to accept reality? In a fight, I'd rather secure my win by doing low kicks than losing and getting my jaw dislocated or worse. Well you're free to do whatever you want if you prefer losing.

Going to be three miserable weeks.

I've seen this before, but edited. I didn't realise the Thai boxer in the first fight took such a tanking at the start. Two indescribably tough fighters.
He had a broken jaw after that left from Roufus and continued to fight. Chanpuek had balls of steel.

Some people see fighting - boxing, muay thai, etc - as their ticket out of poverty, but the truth is your win will send somebody back to the slums, and they might not ever recover, physically or spiritually.

muay thai the hardest stand up in the world
if you watch Shaolin Monks do their "kung fu stances", some of their stances informs you that wrestling take-downs are useless to them in a 'real fight'.

And you don't need anything else
Muay thai is more than just low kick. There are lots of restrictions like knee elbow clinch etc in this match
Sagat
COSMIC CHUCK yeah but if they allow those against that white dude I doubt he will still breathing after the match.
I think like 99% of all fighters instinctively try that when they start messing around with legkicks for the first time (me included haha)
great vid as always
Jimmie Spaargaren warrior spirit! aka crazy bamfs.
Thanks for checking out the video and the kind feedback :)
I remember watching the Roufus fight when it first aired on TV. America got a rude awakening to Muay Thai, and realized how brutally effective it is.
You just got one loyal subscriber :) Great videos :))
Nikola Krstic thank you!
That's the power and the effectiveness of leg kick. It's also very important cz in streets fights u should not kick higher .

I imagine their reaction when they learned afterwards that by just lifting your leg up you can check a low kick
It works if you and your opponent are equal but damn I learned that the hard way
Side horse stance is very vulnerable to outside leg kicks.
@@urekmazino106 Yeah, but you are a Webtoons character who has plot armor... I'm sure it wouldn't hurt that much.

The first one was like a Rocky movie. Great comeback in the fight.

+kaguth Fighters with Gun, knife and big rod are superior to all bar-hand martial art fighters.
And pilots with a Fighter Jet are superior to them ;)
You should know how to fight with any weapon, including your fists. You will not always have a weapon, or even need one!
a great kicker is always going to beat a great puncher. where does a punchers power come from? from the ground up.
+kaguth In all those fights the Thai did not use more than 50% of their arsenal, i did not see any clinch, knee nor elbow ... would the Thai be allowed to fight with knee elbow and clinch all three would have ended with KO/TKO much earlier.

The thai people are not exactly known for their physical strength.
