I started out with two hanging around my property. Now there are 8 four years later. I feed them and they forage in my garden. Love them! Goodness knows how many I'll have next year!
I rescued an adolescent dove from the clutches of a red tailed hawk in California yesterday. It's not injured but can't fly very well yet. So he/she is hanging out in my hotel room and listening to these sounds. Seems to be extremely interested
I love doves 🕊 When I was little I found a beautiful ring neck dove, he white with brown spots ( I’ve never seen another like it) all beat up in my front yard so I caught him & put him in a cage. After nurturing him back to health I didn’t want to release him so my dad ended up building me a big bird cage for him & I bought him a white female dove so he wasn’t lonely. They ended up having lots of babies year round. I loved the sounds they made. We named him Cooey because he would always make that mating call.
I just remembered this one time as a kid we had a collared dove nest in the gutter above my parents' bedroom window while we were renovating and all of us had to sleep in there. They came back the next year. For five years. I don't think my sleep schedule has ever recovered.
Why is it that everyone in the comments only heard this in the past and not recently? On every collared dove video I see at least one comment about someone hearing this sound in the past. As if the doves disappeared between 2005 and 2015.

This is the only way you can tell between the male and female, the male has the stronger louder call, the female has a slightly lower softer call, both sexes are alike share incubation and brood the young as well as feed them.
Littlebear Forever to tell the gender difference you have to move your finger on the vent there are two bones if those bones are space a part then she is female if bones are close and pointed then he is male

Very nice video Compliments, I made one this week of a collard dove, with my Sony AX700 camera your free to look at it on my channel, Keep up the good work !
I live in Colorado and hate these collared doves! They are an invasive species and are currently pushing out populations of our native doves, the mourning dove. Mourning doves are much more gentle and they don't scream their faces off all day, and have a prettier sound when they do coo. The collared doves make noise all day long, and since they are more aggressive and breed more cycles per year than the native doves they are taking over. Apparently collared doves made it to the US via Florida after a hurricane and escaping from a pet shop. They then began to spread throughout the US...they do taste great to eat and it is always open season on them because they are a pest/invasive species! I began to notice these obnoxious doves about 10yrs ago and they are increasing in numbers every year that passes.
It's amazing that birds like this stick to one bird they don't change amazing how the female or male notice the voices.... perfection lil cuties aww
They get married and stay faithful to each other till they die and have lots of cute little chicks and they rase them good. I love these birds!
Birds mate they don't get married
What happen if one of two die?
Is it normal that I heard one of two calling for the other in the night?
I know!!! They’re amazing. I’ve been feeding the birds almost a year, got a flock of mourning doves that come every day
They mate for life. Which makes that time when I saw a hawk smash a dove into my window and eat it on the wall whilst its partner watched much darker.
@@giacomoc1931 If one of them dies, they go, "Anyways" and find a new mate.
Coo-COO-coo! I grew up to this. Every summer of my childhood. In the good old 80s!
Their souns is mor like gu gu shtiuc but if you're familiar to coo COO coo that's okay

That's it's flight call - you won't see them making that sound when they have landed.
I started out with two hanging around my property.

I feed them and they forage in my garden.

Goodness knows how many I'll have next year!

I hear these fellows all the time where I live on Vancouver Island. I find their calls quite soothing. :)
yes it's so soothing and smooth i dont know why some people find it annoying!! i think crows are annoying because the sharp calls they have.
Finally I found the right call !!

I don't know if its a thing but i swear iv'e heard these things imitate crows.
maybe im nuts.
Jaymes elliot not likely as I know. I know that people confuse them with cuckoo birds, but first time I hear of this
Right before they land they make a sound that sounds like a crow but a higher pitch.
Possibly are alarmed or excitement calls, made during flight.

How can u tell the difference between the genders?
This is the only way you can tell between the male and female, the male has the stronger louder call, the female has a slightly lower softer call, both sexes are alike share incubation and brood the young as well as feed them.
does it really matter? to know their genders
Littlebear Forever the way to tell is the male has more beautiful colors.
Littlebear Forever to tell the gender difference you have to move your finger on the vent there are two bones if those bones are space a part then she is female if bones are close and pointed then he is male
