  • Welcome back to the sweet science
Your go to Chanel for everything beginner boxers need
Full of lots of boxing tips and tricks, no nonsense no frills, just legitimate boxing techniques.
In todays video we’re looking at boxing gloves to see if I can change the way you think about cheap gloves being bad and expensive gloves being good, I know 100% which gloves will make you a better boxer and it’s probably not the ones you think
You can’t argue with the greats
    Joe Louis
    Muhammad Ali
    Rocky Marciano etc
Who all used cheap leather bag gloves only when hitting the heavy bag
I know times have changed and glove technology has come on so far
But is that allowing us to get away with bad techniques as with the gloves being so good now .. your less likely to injure yourself with bad technique
Where as the small bag gloves force you to concentrate on technique over power and make sure your punching properly
    So here’s my little tip
If you want to learn to punch better
    Punch properly
Get some cheap old school bag gloves

Thanks coach for the explanation...it really changed my perspective for using the cheap gloves. I will buy a set for practising techniques. Thanks for the enlightening.

I use a pair of “bad” gloves for the bag and you are right, I cannot hit hard or without the proper technique. For occasional and rare sparring I used 10 oz gloves until I spar with one guy who used the same size… After that I decided that 12oz must be minimum. 😊 I will remember your quote “perfect practice makes perfect”. Blind like, as always

Honestly my friend I used to hate those type of gloves for years until it dawn on me that they are actually advanced gloves that make you throw punches cleaner, better, faster and force you to make your technique as good as it can be brother 👍🥊

We always used bag gloves for all our training, although when using a heavy bag, we'd use hand wraps but apply most of the wrap to the wrist for support with very little over the knuckles. Sounds crazy with hindsight but we'd also use the same gloves for sparring.

With the benefit of hindsight, I'd definitely not recommend sparring with bag gloves under any circumstances. This happened many decades ago, a time when macho culture was prevalent in pretty much all gyms. Although this attitude probably still persists in some places, hopefully the coaches in most gyms have become more enlightened.

Trust me mate that macho culture still exists , a lot of gym are full of alpha dick swingers fuelled by the same type of coaches with something to prove , I’ve been on a mission to change that for years , I don’t even let people like that join my gym I tell them to go somewhere else mate
