I knew Joe. He was the first accomplished writer to take my work seriously as a young person. Even now, 40 years later, I'm struck by his kindness and generosity of spirit.
The early 19th century English poet William Wordsworth indited your quote, as "the child is father of the man; / And I would wish my days to be / Bound each to each by natural piety."
In 1950 Joseph L machowicz wrote and directed both All About Eve and no way out, to incredible films but almost opposites. It shows his versatility, I've always felt he was underrated and he should be up there with John Ford Billy Wilder Alfred Hitchcock Etc, I don't really care about his personal life I know everyone focuses on that but I doubt anyone who focuses on stuff like that is actually perfect and who am I to judge another person, who knows in the same situation I may have done the same thing I don't know I wasn't there. Anyway I do like Joseph l mankiewicz, he has an incredible body of work
13:00 The Academy Awards and the Oscars are one and the same.
It took over 5 years for Fox to make its money back.
Yes, it eventually became profitable. But it originally almost bankrupted the studio !.. If you allow for inflation, it is still the most expensive American 🎥 movie ever made.........
I still am appalled that anyone with sense would have built huge 'Egypt' sets in England!! Weather reports existed in the late 1950s, and UK is long infamous for lasting fog & rain. (See above)
I liked it.
First comment..
🥱 Wow first !. And nothing intelligent 🧠 to say or add to the conversation. Sad 😔 really.......
What a profound comment
Brilliant writer and director but a horrible serial philander, abusive to his wife Rose Stradner and his mistresses.
