I love how the three outfits seem to have Malinda show a different personality per outfit - sweater/plain chair is the bared, simple, vulnerable character, red dress/leather chair seems to be more of a sassy, snarky, daring version, and gold collar/throne is the dominating, strong, character, who you'd run away from yourself :o
I never really noticed the details until you mentioned it. The same lyrics is basically repeated by 3 different characters with their respective effects:
Sweatshirt: vulnerable, fearful, avoiding a relationship with a dominating character
Red dress: sassy, confident, radiant, enticing with an "go ahead and try, I doubt you'd succeed" demeanor
Amber collar: dominating, powerful, disdainful of a controlling character
She looks amazing in that red dress but also looks phenomenal in the Jean's and sweat shirt scenes.
That juxtaposition is a really cool.thing to see

Malinda, my family's been following you for years, and I finally had to sit down and tell you just how blown away I am by your talent. You move effortlessly from comedy to acoustic music, to folk and pop, and your personal style seems to effortlessly morph from diva to folkie to comedian and back again the same way.
I mean this as the highest possible compliment, you remind me of the young Lucille Ball. Multi-talented comedian, dancer, singer, stage performer and all around diva. You're quite amazing.
And moreover, my 11 year old daughter loves you too. You've been such a wonderful, funny feminist role model for her, and I appreciate it very much. I'd wish you even greater success in the future, but that's just coming whatever I say. You're too talented for there to be any other outcome.
P.S.: And the greatest possible indicator of future success is that I've had "Running" stuck in my head for days, playing over and over and over again! It's the only earworm I haven't hated.

I love this. Malinda's gorgeous voice combined with the cinematography and her beauty is perfect.
I think the story is perfect. it is three different sides of a person who has escaped from an abusive relationship. The Malinda in the sweater was weaker. She trusted in the person she was with and blamed herself. She now feels stronger but is still so broken and hurt by what that person did to her. The Malinda in the red dress is a sort of Taylor Swift character. She is strong and ended the relationship when she saw that it was a negative situation. And finally the Malinda in the black/yellow dress looked powerful. She broke everything off before the other Malindas, making sure she was safe regardless of the others.
I feel like these are not alternate people or alternate situations. In my opinion they are the battling pieces of one Malinda's mind. She is afraid to leave him, yet she also knows this isn't right. Then there's the side of her that wants to hurt him like he wants to hurt her.

i love the fact that instead of saying they came crawling back to her, they came running. instead of realizing that they still wanted her, they instead thought she was the best target, so they came running to her.
Can we take a minute here to appreciate the lyrics of this song and how well they were translated in that video?! It is such a good combination of the feelings a strong woman would have after a break up where the man keeps running back to her sexy self and she sends him off strong and with a majestic stile, but with respect, but she also can't completely ignore the feelings she had(has) for him, leaving her - though so strong - so human, so fragile (btw do you know the song fragile? It's awesome). Thanks Malinda for this masterpiece!

She is an incredible singer, but I after watching a number of her short videos, I am also deeply impressed with her acting ability. She could take on any operatic role that suited her voice.
