    Nice. I'm in the process of building my own machine and this was interesting. I'm using a JH 50W tube to begin with, but plan to also make my own larger cavity if I can find resonator mirrors. Nobody seems to sell them at a reasonable price.

    Awesome video man! One thing confuses me; I understand for raster the beam is pulsed to create the different shades or lots of little dots, but for continuous cutting of something like acrylic, how is the total output power of the laser controlled? Is it constantly at 40w output or is there control for that somewhere in GRBL too? Is it simply the travel speed that determines how long the beam dwells on one spot hence the desired cut depth can be achieved? Cheers man

    • @HowToDoEng
      @HowToDoEng  3 года назад +1

      Thank you! I never use full power of 40w because it's not very healthy for laser tube, better use slower speed and less power. Arduino can change power wia TTL signal, you just need to set the correct value of power and speed for each line, for example to cut 3mm acrylic or plywood I'm using speed of 7mm/s and 37% power.

      be careful with metal underneath the beam. IR Can reflect off of a lot of surfaces and cause you, or someone in the vicinity a lot of trouble....

    heyy can you please explain how to make a coilgun with more than one capacitor do you need a higher voltage supply or it will just take longer to charge and i was thinking using a car ignition coil for power supply does it work anyway nice work keep up :)

    • @ywdw
      @ywdw 2 года назад

      If you wanted, you should wire the capacitors in parallel. And you shouldn’t need a bigger voltage input bc the capacitors fill up almost immediately, around 6 time steps depending on the capacitance of the system

    How many W does a laser need to have in order to cut metal ? Something like 0.5cm in thickness

    • @linkzyofficial

      To cut that kind of thickness ur gonna need a industrial fiber laser. $100k+ or a not as precise cnc plasma cutter

My number aparently does not fit their requested pattern, plus all is in russian language which I unfortunately don't speak. Any hint for the stupid on how to still support you?

    Why not make a 3d laser engraver.. Basically your same set up on its side.. Computer controlled rotating dish in front of it.. Metal plate behind dish for safety... Laser starts at top of 3d object.. Dish rotates and laser engravers based on the design.. After a full 360 degree etching laser steps down to the next pixel and does another 360.. All the way to the bottom.. You could use it for basic shapes such as primitives, like cubes, cylinders, spheres, cones etc...
    You could unwrap the model with an unwrap program.. Loads of those exist.. Feed the image to the laser and get it to draw the corresponding pixel in the right location using the above method...

      Arduino is so and so... If you want a real upgrade go for the Cohesion 3D board. Not cheap, but a better upgrade. You also get real PWM. And is pretty simple to do the upgrade.
