I would say keep putting out content. Eventually you will figure out what type of niche you like. It’s takes time, but learn to enjoy the ride and don’t focus on numbers.

GIRL - I got over 8 million views in 2021 and I only made about 1/3 of that, clearly I'm in the wrong niche! Thanks for sharing this, I have been binge watching your channel lately and your videos are super helpful! 💜
I got over 10.8 million views in 2021 and I only made about 1/19 of that.... yes, 1/19th! ouch. I know my niche is bad for $. She's rockin' it. But, her numbers are far from the average creators earnings with the same #'s.
Thank you for this info as it helps put some perspective on RUclips. I am making an assumption here but I'm guessing it is maybe to do with the age of the viewing audience, the more disposable income they have based on what age you target your videos for the potential for higher CPM etc. I don't know any of this as I'm just a tiny youtuber who isn't even monetised but it would be good to understand the driving mechanisms behind what RUclips pays especially before you choose your niche and spend lots of time doing videos with false expectations.
That's why, as Cathrin mentioned, it's always smart to make money through different ways. I saw you were making crafts and DIY videos, so you can use affiliate marketing to send people over to the things you use, RUclips ads, and even sell your own course.

@@weebobart you're missing some great opportunities here. I noticed you drew a picture of Batman about a year ago. And now that the new batman is out, you could have done another video on that. That way, you could end up being trendy.
Also, things like Spiderman, since the new Spiderman movie came out a few months back.
I'm not really sure what your specific goals are for this channel, but you could end up creating custom art and sell them to your audience.

Cathrin, our channels are as different as night and day, but I can't tell you how much you've helped me grow from 0 to 7,000+ subs. So - thank you!! Also, do you think it is helpful to occasionally change/update thumbnails on older videos? I've never heard anything on this.
yes it can definitely be helpful!! I've only done it a few times and mainly when a thumbnail had a year on it and I want it to live forever and not just be specific to that year. otherwise, if a video isn't really performing as well as you think it should, an upgraded thumbnail can do the trick 👏

@@majestictop1039 when you’re new to RUclips, the most important thing is to make lots of videos on topics that you’re interested in. Try different video formats. After a while, you’ll notice that some videos/topics perform better than others, so that will be a sign of what you should focus on.
Also, it takes a while for RUclips to work out what your videos are about. Try to make at least 30 videos on the same topic or style before worrying about whether it is working
This is a question I’ve always wondered about too!! Maybe I’ll give it a go to help some of my older videos🥰

I have 1350 subscribers and got monetized in October. Since then ive made roughly $2/day from AdSense. It all depends on your audience, views and what type of content youre creating. Also a lot of times during the first quarter of the year, your CPM will be lower because advertisers are still getting their budgets together.
true! the location of your audience is a big one when it comes to your cpm. but it's different for every creator and every video for each creator!
Me too. I have a main channel and I got monetized in June and I'm stuck at $8. My views vary from 200 views to 500 views per video. I feel so sad 😞

I love watching videos like this! After watching this I checked my stats and ad revenue made up only 4% of my earnings for 2021! I'd definitely love to see a full breakdown of how much total revenue you made.
I love that you share this - and I'd love to see more of how you earn from other things and/or a breakdown of it. You are/were one of my first favorite channels and I really enjoy your content. I do alot of thrift shopping and watch alot of resellers (my favorite channels are Hustle at Home Mom and Hairy Tornado if anyone is curious about that kind of content).
