@@Chiefinnn Well technically speaking they actually do considering the fact that the Gravemind is technically the source of all of their intelligence. Without it the Flood can't function properly like the Xenomorphs for example they still need a Queen to be able to operate but if their Queen dies then the xenomorphs all go ballistic and sooner or later eventually shrivel up and die unless a new queen was already born to take up said mantle.
@@Retr0Bunn113 sure, a gravemind is needed to make any sort of large scale progress. All I’m saying is that even without one, they can still operate on a basic level of “consume biomass, spread infection” until they can actually produce a proto/gravemind.

Well, if one of those managed to keep a conversation for 44 years with the most advanced forerunner AI and convince it to defect to their side. Surely they have a knack for manipulation.
I never noticed this before (mainly due to the young ages I played the first original halo 2 as well as the remastered version), but the fact The Gravemind replied to Cortana (who was clearly talking solely to chief) is a clear cut example of his telepathic abilities. Truly terrifying.

In the books once someone fired an artillery rocket at chief. Chief literally just punched the rocket, head-on, out of the sky and took only shield damage.
Hilariously enough, people still don't understand the reasons behind their names (even for how long ago this game originally was made). For those who DON'T know: Truth calls himself such because he conceals the truth from the Covenant about the humans and their part regarding the Forerunner technology they've been gathering. The truth of the matter is that the Humans were meant to take the role the Forerunners once held as caretakers of the universe (starting with the known galaxy) and thus were given complete access to most if not all cataloged Forerunner tech. Even going so far as to leave the knowledge with sentient structures such as the monitors and AI constructs that the humans are their 'creators'. Mercy is ironically named seeing as he is shown no mercy when he is being devoured by a Flood infection form and has shown no mercy to the humans or Thel 'Vadamee (the Arbiter) during the genocidal campaign against humans and later the Sangheili after betraying them. Regret of course has no regret for any of his actions, even if they cost the Covenant great strides in achievement towards their goals.
Yeah they don’t really touch on it but in halo 1 Cortana figured out how to teleport people around the ring but she wasn’t good at navigating it. So the gravemind being able to do it flawlessly is a low key flex on how intelligent it is.
I find it interesting that this is the only time in all of the games that you see the Gravemind's actual face. For the rest of the game it's just an ominous presence creeping into the mind of everyone around it. That almost makes it even more terrifying.
I really, really appreciate the visual cue at 2:18 after the Gravemind says "containment." When I was a wee lad, in the original Halo 2 I assumed that was just a guttural noise that he made as he turned to Regret, but seeing now the angry... mannerism? the Gravemind had just shows more to me how aware and pissed he was at the idea of the Flood being contained.
