These people havent had to fight titans like this in years. They were sheltered in their city and didnt take the dangers very seriously. Hannes has never had to face this challenge before, he was too terrified to fight the titan! Thats why he ran, it's fear due to lack of experience.
Hannes (the blond man who took Eren and Mikasa away to safety and left their mom) ran away because when he came face to face with a titan for the first time, he got scared and terrified, he realized he won't be any match at all. So he had to decide quickly and took Eren and Mikasa instead. Like any other normal human being, our first instinct when we feel like we're gonna lose or we're certain we're facing death, is that we run to safety.
We would have 100% been terrified ourselves for sure! Yes we get it, it was just a silly theory that popped into my head like "Hold on, does he know the Titan? Like was the Titan a regular sized human before and he didn't want to attack it because he knew it personally?" But then after thinking about it we were like yeah he ran away because he knew he wouldn't be any match for it and it was better to save the kids and him self instead of all 4 of them dying. He just seemed determined to fight and prove himself but he then had a change of heart when he locked eyes with the titan. Don't blame him, just sad that the mother ended up dying like that 😢
How!!?? Just how could One episode, that I watched more than 20 times, make me discover something new that I hadn't noticed before EVERY SINGLE TIME!!?? PURE TOP TIER Storytelling.
In fact Carla's legs were not broken. She were lying so that Eren and Mikasa could run away and survive. You can see her legs moving when the titan lift her up
This anime is considered a masterpiece withinthe genre and the soundtrack is considered the greatest of all time. If u watch it for no other reason than to be aware of it, it is worth your time! To understand the show better, I recommend to pay REALLY close attention, without looking away. It’s a very confusing show and if you look away for even a second you’ll be completely lost. 😃

It's always fun to find people who have never seen AOT before. I always just smile and think, "You are SO not prepared for this show!" I was very not prepared when I started watching it, and very little gets easier to watch. Somehow the creators are able to keep you reeling for the most part. Some of it you do get a bit... desensitized to, but don't relax while watching it. The show will still leave you in a state of shock even four seasons in.
