  • Using the FREE mid-length template from Almond Surfboards. The templates are available in multiple shapes and various sizes on Almond’s website listed below. This board is the Mid-Length 6’6” model. These templates can be printed at full length rather than trying to tape 10 pieces of paper together. Then you can simply trace the template directly onto the surfboard blank or use it to make a permanent hardboard template.
    Almond allows you to download a full size 24" x 100" .pdf and print out your template. Simply add to cart and check out... no charge.
    Hot tip for printing: Take it to your local FedEx and they usually have a black & white roll printer that can print it full-scale.

      @@BendheimBoards that way you can reuse the template+ much faster to draw up your plan shape! If you go to home depot just ask them to cut in four equal pieces length wise. Draw template on + cut outside the line of your design 1
      3/16", and start w block plane. Once closer use a sureform. Finally use a sanding block. Really eye ball it til it's true to your design.

    When did you switch from Greenlight surf supplies (like the blanks) to foam-EZ? Remember that mini surfboard kit you reviewed? That’s a beautiful shape, it’s interesting to see the new shaping bay in action.

    • @BendheimBoards
      @BendheimBoards  Год назад +2

      Foam EZ is really close to me so it made sense to start working together. Thanks for watching!

      I’m obviously not Bendheim, but I’ve also greatly reduced my greenlight supplies. Greenlight is great when you’re getting started, and I love their epoxy, but their prices are higher. Especially when you don’t live near them. Shipping across the country is pricey.
      I mostly buy from shapersupply and foamez as they’re both on the west coast (Oregon and socal)

    So I'm now at an impasse. I subscribed during the shop rebuild. I enjoy your editing style however content wise I enjoy the construction of a building more than the art of shaping a board. Mostly, this is due to me not having an interest in the hobby or sport of surfing. I'll hang out for a bit but I just don't think I'm a proper sample of your target audience.

      This was a very enlightening read. I think I'll still go about my daily business as I was prior to reading this though, as it has no real bearing on my life. I have found it to be a net-zero-gain statement, posed in a neutral-to-positive tone. Thank you for your perspective. I hope you have a day. 😊

    Mad skill, stupid question: why, when cutting the blank, don’t you use a sawzall or jigsaw? Just curious..

    • @wtfftw24

      Same thing like
      Why going around with a pencil when you may give a quick shot with a spray can to get the edge of the shape?

    • @jamesroscoe7555
      @jamesroscoe7555 Год назад

      @@wtfftw24Honestly, a pencil is about as fast and doesn't create overspray. Also spray can paint usually has solvents that will dissolve EPS foam.
      Wrt the op, one would need a long jigsaw blade that smoothly cuts foam (sounds easier than it is, btdt) and a sawzall is just too chaotic, this isn't demolition. A thin kerf Japanese style hand saw is fastest and cleanest imho.

  • @jameso8418
    @jameso8418 Год назад +1

    You can use hardboard (Masonite), but you need a jig saw to cut outside the line of your plan shape (template), and then you true up w block plane, sureform, and sanding block w 60 grit.

I halved the time my 3rd board took basically by buying some plastic drawers so I wasn’t losing and searching for tools all the time! Thanks for the videos, I’m looking forward to seeing the glassing or wherever else is next!
