  • Strengthening the capabilities of rural people to take advantage of opportunities in the rural non-farm economy is essential according to the Rural Poverty Report 2011, prepared by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). When rural women are able to access better paid jobs outside of the agricultural sector it benefits their families as well as the wider economy. In this video, María Ana Lagog González, a weaver from Guatemala, talks about how she has been able to offer her family a better future through weaving.

We wanted to know why we can't put a comment on Guadamala poverty 1960's. Wasn't it the start of the trail of Counter-City?

They should learn to take care of themselves! Instead of expecting people or nations to take care of them!🤨🤔

They are. She does weaving to support her family as they said in the video. At no point in the video does she ask for help or say that she's expecting anyone to take care of her or her family. If organizations try to support job opportunities for these communities then that is their choice. 🤨🤔

Hard to do that when the government controls everything. Not to mention U.S. intervention via United Fruit Company.

Most of guetemalans take care of themselves and would be better off without the foreign guetemalan government taking away thier people's resources.
