I've seen people do that as well! I might try to do a cute narwal version as well as a video! Do you have Ravelry? I would love to see your finished project!

My first one was this about a year ago. I didn't understand that you did a different thing most of the rows so I ended up with a flat thingy me bob 🤣. I'm trying again with this to see how far I've come.
Yesterday, I saw this video for the first time. I have made five now and know the instructions by heart. I have a problem. I will make number 6 now. His name will be Billy
Written instructions: 𝙄 𝘼𝘿𝙅𝙐𝙎𝙏𝙀𝘿 𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙈 𝘼 𝙇𝙄𝙏𝙏𝙇𝙀 𝘽𝙄𝙏! Round one: 6 SC in magic ring or ch 2 and 6 SC in the first chain (6) Round 2: Inc1 in every stitch around (12) Round 3: [SC, inc] x6 (18) Round 4: [SC 2, inc] x6 (24) Round 5: [SC 3, inc] x6 (30) Round 6-9: 30 SC around (30) ⚠FLO⚠ Ch 5. Finish off. Belly (in white) Round 1: In BLO, pull up a loop in white on the stitch under the tail. SC all the way around. Round 2: 3 SC, inv dec Add eyes/mouth if u want Round 3: 2 SC inv dec Round 4: 1 SC, inv dec Round 5: dec all the way around Insert needle in each stitch flo and pull string to tighten. Thrad needle through a couple different places in the white and cut the yarn In the outstanding front loops from round 10, place 4 SC in any 1 stitch where you want the fins to be. Sl st into that stitch and finish off. Do one on each side. Tuck in ends and you're finished!
I’m having trouble trying to make this I can’t exactly see what you’re doing and it’s confusing. I have the first steps down but then when you increase for the 3rd time I don’t really know whats going on
Have you tried looking at the written pattern on Ravelry? I have a chart on there which may visually show how the increases work there better. The main idea is that you want to increase 6 stitches each round, so each time you're adding an extra stitch between increases. So, Increase every stitch after placing 6 SC inside a ring, then every other to 18, and then every 3rd to 24 and so on and so forth. Does that help at all? I may end up doing an addendum to this video, due to how popular it was and this was before I created a nice set up where my hands don't go out of screen so much!
Knit Grit Yes this is quite helpful Thank you for explaining it you me. I have one that I was trying to make and I over did it and it’s my first time trying to crochet. It’s quite hard for me to get the stitches tight but I mean at least I’m learning. It took me a couple tries to learn what I was supposed to do but I’ve accomplished by rewatching your video over and over so thank you your videos really do help
On top of her awesome tutorials it has quite a bit of benefit to understand the stiches she is using. Libraries have alot of books on crocheting. Once i got a book and practiced the stiches, her tutorial went very smoothly!
the amount of math in this... im going rogue and just gonna go in circles and see where that takes me. also the magic circle way you made is so lovely i live for it THANK YOU 💜
I’m confused. For round two in the white, I got the correct number of stitches, but for some reason when I did my last decrease, I used one of the loops that I just single crocheted into…
@@gameregg-1006 honestly, I personally got so confused, I stopped counting altogether and just kept going in circles, increasing and decreasing when my heart felt like it.

I’ve tried to learn to crochet a few times and failed! I finally decided to try it again and came across your tutorial. I made this little guy so easily! He’s not perfect. It was great practice, and I think completing this as a first project is pretty good! Thank you! I subscribed to your channel to follow along with more videos!
Thank you! I'm so glad this tutorial worked for you and helped. Practice and consistency is honestly the most important aspect to crocheting, so just keep at it!
Hi, I started crocheting and watching videos but I never finished any projects until I watched your whale tutorial and I LOVED IT!!! I love how you say "try not to split your yarn" and your just so amazing. I love your channel.
Found my own knit set. Never bothered to use it when i got it. I was super bored and fount it and decided to do it. Im so in love! Was able to work on this for a couple of hours absolutely enjoying it. He/she came out sooo cute def will be making more😭
Just finished him after 5 hours! Took about an hour before I figured out how to start making rounds and I was so nervous about messing up the whole time but I'm so happy how it turned out! Can't wait to amass an army of these!
Just finished him, he was my first ever crochet project! Just started this week and gifted him to my mum as she was the one to get me started on crochet
this is the first thing i've ever crocheted, i'd never done anything to do with crocheting before and this tutorial was so nice and easy to follow along that I was able to make it with 0 experience. i absolutely love how it turned out. thank you for this!♥
I was determined to make a crochet strawberry cow I during this long weekend (3 days) bought all the stuff from hobby lobby came home and realized I didn’t know how to do a single stitch. I’m on my day one today and this tutorial was the first thing I’ve ever made except for bracelets. It turned out very well thank you so much. 🥰😊😂
Ok so basically, I have made 2 amigurumi eggs and this is my first time trying a new type of ammigurumi!!!! Thanks so are great at explaining things that are easy for beginners. Thank u
I managed to sit down and knock out this project in a bulky yarn in just a few hours. Thank you for the tutorial, I'll be checking out your updated one next!
I have two updates and I would definitely recommend the 2021 one! 😁 Doing this pattern with plushie bulk yarn is my favorite! I bought a faux fur yarn and made HUGE baby whales that look awesome, I need to post pics!
I can't actually believe I was able to do this! I've been studying crochet on my own for a week I think, and I had just succeeded on my first magic circle the previous day, and yet I was able to do a whale on my own!
Hi! I saw this video a few months back when I was learning to crochet and I tried to make it, but it just ended in a disaster. I decided to try and make it again and it turned out so good!
Hi, this was the first crochet thing that I ever made. It helped me so much along the way. Now that I am making giant, complex things, I wanted to come and thank you for getting me started. This was an amazing video, and it truly changed my life. Thank you!😘
Omg this took me about 2 hours ( I have been wanting to make this for a while and I learned amigurumi yesterday) and it turned out adorable 🥺 I named him wally 😌
I'm a beginner at chrochet and i haven't even learned all the stitches yet but i was able to make this into a mothers day gift on my first try! Thank you for making your videos so easy to learn and follow along with!!
I have been desperate to make a crochet project that wasn't a blanket (recently learned to do a rose) as I can't follow a pattern at all. I just completed my first whale and you made it so very easy to do and fun. Thank you for helping make my first critter.
Omg thank you for thissss! I am a beginner at crocheting and I was about to order a crotcheted whale for my car mirror and I didn’t want to spend the money. This is exactly the video, look, and tutorial I needed😁🐳
I love my whale so much! I tried this as my first ever amigurumi project and it turned out so good! (albeit super wonky) He is so cute! I named him crosspatch.
This went great until the tail >.< After the tail (which ended up having one fin bigger than the other) I didn’t have a nice neat round any more. There were slip stitches everywhere & it made the 30 become 34! Then I must have flipped the wrong way around somewhere because the white ended up inside out. Again, not to bad, he has a ridged stomach now... haha!!! He’s definitely a derpy whale. I think I’ll give my first attempt to my friend’s cat. 😀 I’ll try following the pdf after your video. Thanks so much for this tutorial - they’re super cute!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR EXPLAINING AND ISOLATING WHAT TO DO. I’m very new to crocheting and lots of videos just say, “loop the first loop” but... it isn’t the first loop you actually see, but a different first loop... yeah, it’s confusing. So I appreciate you and I REALLY appreciate this video.
THANK YOU! I have been trying to crochet for the longest. I found this video and knew I had to try. I finished this little guy and I am so happy. This is also my first project, so again, thank you very much.
One of the bets tutorials ive found, and would definitely use again. My whale turned out a little small, but i think its because my hook was a size smaller than my yarn recommended, either way i love my little whale. Thank so much :)
Highly recommend that you watch the video and look at the written pattern. Coming from a absolute beginner, I was able to learn how to read a pattern so now I can pick up any amigurumi pattern and I know what they are referring to.
I did a better version of this tutorial lol it’s under my uploads as the “2020” version, where I explain things a bit better! I’ve learned from my mistakes from this tutorial, lol!
I have been crochet for about one year but I was taught wrong. It was kind of difficult for me to get the magic ring but I managed. My whale looks too tall and kind of funky, but I just made my first amigurumi! Thank you!
omg.. i started making this same version of the magic ring years ago... i thought i was the only one since i figured it out on my own. it IS easier and more efficient. also, i form my stitches exactly the same way... i love your tutorial on this darling little whale... i think i may need to make at least a dozen... just for starters... edit... i count my stitches on increase rounds the same too !!! Great minds think alike ... clearly ... lol
i picked up crochet during quarantine and on a 1am binge of cute animals that i could make i decided to make this. he came out great. his name is wally
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I am going to make a bunch and tie them on a small bush in front of my house for people to see when they walk by... I think everyone could use a few cute crocheted whales in their life right now. :)
i love your videos so much. i have not crocheted much in the past few years, but it was really easy to understand your video and get right back into crocheting. My grandma taught me to crochet when i was six and now i'm 13 and really glad she taught me.
this was SO great to follow even for someone like me who has absolutely no idea how to crochet! taught me a few things and helped me make a really cute present for my girlfriend
When i started crochet 2 years ago this was the first thing i learnt and i absolutely loved doing it. When i make a gift for someone, this is usually it Edit: Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, i just made 3 of these as gifts for my grandparents
I was unsure of your crochet methods at first but I decided to try it the way you did it and I gotta say... you are right its A LOT better. I have done other Amigurumi before, this is the best one I have done because of your method and easy instructions. Thank you so much. I LOVE my little whale and look forward to making him the little shark and octopus buddies. I love them a lot. You are awesome.
Mine turned out so cute! I used hot pink for the head and pastel yellow for the belly. She turned out amazing! It took me about 2-2 1/2 hours to complete but def worth it. It’s my second amigurumi project. My first was a small bee. Thanks so much for this tut. Xx
It took me a minute to figure out what you meant by increase but I think I got it. My whale is super cute! A bit wonky because its my first one but i love him!
about a year ago this was my first ever amigurumi i made. ever since then my amigurumi's have improved and i've reached the point where i'm quite confident in making most projects that i can follow by a pattern (designing stuff myself is something else though) in short, this was the first plushie i ever made and after that came so many more, and after some practice they all look amazing now. Thank you for this video, i'm sure this video was the first step into other people's amigurumi journey as well :)
I’m so glad to have been your introduction to Amigurumi! Shoot me an email if you want help writing your own patterns if you ever want to get to that point! I love talking to people, it’s lonely here in Maine. 😂😂😂
@@KnitGrit awhhh that's so sweet of you!! i mainly struggle with figuring out more advanced shapes. simple stuff i can design myself, but i hate the trial and error haha. and yeah your video is very beginner friendly and it's the first thing i link people to who are just starting out with amigurumi :)
OMG HES"S SOOOO CUTE ... i named him fred (lol) thank you so much you really are talented, and I love how you learn differently from everyone else GO BE YOU!!!
This was my first project, my little whale looks like someone stepped on her but I love her anyway 😆 I will make her a friend to test how much my stitches improved, I felt like they were getting better about halfway through
star light Yep! He loves it so much! It was going to be for Christmas, I was gonna give it to a friend. But I just made two instead. One for him one for the friend
Thank you so much for this video! This is my first amigurumi so to make sure I am doing everything right I have the the written instructions you linked open and following. I would have messed this up terribly if it weren't for your video.
Ok so I literally just started crocheting yesterday and all I’ve made was a simple chain 😂 so I don’t think I should be trying this right now but I’ll give it a shot. Wish me luck that it doesn’t turn out in a horrible disaster! 😂😖
Knit Grit! This is so cute. This is actually my first amigurumi project on crocheting and I'm thankful it was made by you. Love watching your videos, you're so great at crotheting:)
Oh my goodness! So easy and fun and instead of safety eyes I just took my darning needle and black yarn and made eyes. That way I know they are safe for my grands. But thank you! I love this little guy! I'll be making a lot more!
I also wonder if fabric paint would be safe enough for kiddos, as well. I have tried to find research on it but failed. The black yarn and darning needle for embroidery is a good idea, though! ❤️
@@KnitGrit yeah paint depending on which one can be bad. But there is a gel stain that world probably work and is perfectly OK. Is called Unicorn Spit! I love it! Use it in all sorts of things.
Great video! You made this skill much more understandable. Perhaps your camera angle was a bit off but it hardly matters, nor does it take away from how well you present this info. Really enjoyed this!!
@@KnitGrit Well it is true. I am trying to learn crochet and likely have a mild form of dyslexia. My daughter has full blown dyslexia and I appreciate and admire others who are out that, unafraid to mention the things about themselves others might consider to be a 'disability ' but I consider to be something that makes us not only unique but better .
Started with your amigurumi ball and moved onto this one not realizing it was the same channel. I recently started learning to crochet and I really enjoy your videos. I will admit that i get flustered because some times you demonstrate a step but your hands are outside of the camera view. Regardless, i really love your videos and appreciate it. Cant wait to see more of ur tutorials! :) P.S. I love my whale! I used buttons for eyes. Suuuper cute
I did a revamp of this video and since I started using my new camera I go off screen less! It’s hard to see when I was using the old one. 😭 I also have an updated version of this video on my channel! Thank you for the kind words and I hope you have a great weekend!
It's my first time crocheting, and this tutorial was so fun! I accidentally made it too oval shaped, but it ended up looking like a baby chicken coming out of it's shell (I used yellow and white), which looks really cute!
thank you so much for this i had never crocheted before but i knew i had some yarn and a needle laying around somewhere and i managed to make a funky little guy
Awe! Just finished him. He turned out so cute. I even tried adding a horn to make a him a narwhal XD

Highly recommend that you watch the video and look at the written pattern. Coming from a absolute beginner, I was able to learn how to read a pattern so now I can pick up any amigurumi pattern and I know what they are referring to.
Its the fact that you finished this SOO fast. I mean i couldn’t, i’m gonna try to make it at home
Thank you!
Loved making this little guy! Instead of crocheting or sewing on fins at the end I added them in on the same row, just made it a bit easier for me :)
That’s a good idea! Whatever works. ☺️
omg.. i started making this same version of the magic ring years ago... i thought i was the only one since i figured it out on my own. it IS easier and more efficient. also, i form my stitches exactly the same way... i love your tutorial on this darling little whale... i think i may need to make at least a dozen... just for starters...
edit... i count my stitches on increase rounds the same too !!!
I had to pause the video multiple times but I finally got it! He looks great
Did you give him a name? ☺️
Knit Grit not yet! But I was thinking Bob
i love your videos so much. i have not crocheted much in the past few years, but it was really easy to understand your video and get right back into crocheting. My grandma taught me to crochet when i was six and now i'm 13 and really glad she taught me.
I didn’t learn until I was 17! Had to beg my mom to teach me and trap her to finally learn, lol. So you’re doing a great job for learning at so young!
@@KnitGrit Thanks!
this was SO great to follow even for someone like me who has absolutely no idea how to crochet! taught me a few things and helped me make a really cute present for my girlfriend
That’s awesome! I’m glad it helped! ❤️
I made my first whale today. Your tutorial was super easy to follow. Thank you.
If you're on Instagram or Ravelry, you should share with me on there! I'd love to see it! ❤️

Your little amigurumi are adorable!! I enjoyed your narrative while making this guy. Thanks :)
Thank you. 😄
Oh man the pulling the tail through to make the beginning is a life saver!!
Right!? Game Changer!
When i started crochet 2 years ago this was the first thing i learnt and i absolutely loved doing it. When i make a gift for someone, this is usually it
Edit: Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, i just made 3 of these as gifts for my grandparents
This is so sweet! ♥️
This is the first crochet tutorial that didnt make me want to die of boredom.
Thank you
That's so sweet! Thank you! ❤️
I yarn over
I’ve always felt I was wrong for doing this
I feel better about it now Lol Thanks
I was unsure of your crochet methods at first but I decided to try it the way you did it and I gotta say... you are right its A LOT better. I have done other Amigurumi before, this is the best one I have done because of your method and easy instructions. Thank you so much. I LOVE my little whale and look forward to making him the little shark and octopus buddies. I love them a lot. You are awesome.
That’s awesome! :) let me know how they turn out! 😃
Mine turned out so cute! I used hot pink for the head and pastel yellow for the belly. She turned out amazing! It took me about 2-2 1/2 hours to complete but def worth it. It’s my second amigurumi project. My first was a small bee. Thanks so much for this tut. Xx
I've been crocheting for years, since i was around 4 and i only make chains and this helped me get out of my comfort zone. Thank you
I’m glad it helps! What do you plan on making? ☺️
Two tiny whales, one of them will heterocromia(when your eyes are different colors) im making them for me and my friends
That sounds so cute! ❤️
I have no ideas of how to crochet at all.
LETS GET STARTED
Doooooo it!!!!!! 😁
@@KnitGrit It's taken me a whole year but I have successfully managed it just today!!
I just finished making this. It was easy and looks so good!! 10/10 recommend!!
Glad you liked it!!
I do my stitches the same way. It's good to know I'm not the only one doing it that way also this is super cute
Tbh this was one of the easiest tutorials ever the stitches also weren’t to hard👍👍👍3 thumbs up
I don’t know how to crochet and have no desire to but I watched this whole video it was awesome. Subscribed.
I serious sat here and made four whales for no reason because of this tutorial 🤦🏻♀️
It’s really the only way to do it. It’s like Pringles....
I just finished him and i’m in loveeeeee, all i can think about is what to name him
It took me a minute to figure out what you meant by increase but I think I got it. My whale is super cute! A bit wonky because its my first one but i love him!
I am still wondering!! What does increase mean here
smita nandgaye put two stitches in one stitch
Alexus Sings ok-so by the end you will have three stitches in one stitch?
@@casheproffit6767 just two!
about a year ago this was my first ever amigurumi i made. ever since then my amigurumi's have improved and i've reached the point where i'm quite confident in making most projects that i can follow by a pattern (designing stuff myself is something else though)
in short, this was the first plushie i ever made and after that came so many more, and after some practice they all look amazing now.
I gave up within 5 minutes 😃 I have no clue what you were talking about but I guess some people understood so thanks for the tutorial
Where did I lose you?
I’ve started watching your channel and I’m already loving it, the whales are so adorable and so I’m going to make my friends one
That's awesome! You should share on Instagram so I can see it! :D
Omg I just finished him this is my first time making a project it helped me so much thank you🌸♥️✨
Awwww, glad I could help! ❤️
OMG HES"S SOOOO CUTE ... i named him fred (lol) thank you so much you really are talented, and I love how you learn differently from everyone else GO BE YOU!!!
You gotta make it work with what you've got. 😁
This was my first project, my little whale looks like someone stepped on her but I love her anyway 😆
I will make her a friend to test how much my stitches improved, I felt like they were getting better about halfway through
I have just finished my WHALE 🐳 and I'm really thankful for finding your video💙💙💙💙 *You're great*
I made a HUGE one of these and I’m OBSESSED
I made the mama whale using plushie blanket yarn and it’s HUMONGOUS!
Knit Grit I used the loops and threads sweet snuggles yarn and I doubled the pattern it’s like 4x bigger than my head !
thank you for making this video. i needed to crochet something really cool for something with school and this turned out so well thank you
That's awesome! What color whale did you make? :)
@@KnitGrit i made a teal one and it turned out awesome thank you again
I made mine and I think my giant dad was more excited then me!
It’s hilarious seeing this 6 foot man gushing over the tiny whale
Awww thats so sweet! Did you give tha whale to him?
star light Yep! He loves it so much! It was going to be for Christmas, I was gonna give it to a friend. But I just made two instead. One for him one for the friend
Okay! By now I have made five of them for my friends. And then made another because my best friends dad wanted one too! I feel so appreciated :>
awww youre so nicee
my wife and kids love these as little i was thinking of you gifts.
That’s so cute! ♥️
it's 12 in the morning and I'm so excited to start knitting, all I need is yarn and needle !
That was me on New Years over a decade ago! 😁
Thank you so much for this video! This is my first amigurumi so to make sure I am doing everything right I have the the written instructions you linked open and following. I would have messed this up terribly if it weren't for your video.
Love your tutorials! It’s like I have you in my living room! So pleasant, thanks for sharing!!!
Made a few of these and the outcome was just adorable! This tutorial was great❤️
Absolutely loved it. I'm not professional in knitting. But i made this kind of easily. And he became sooo cute. Thank youuuuu
I made my second one!!!
the tail-as-marker trick is mindblowing to me
Waste not, want not. 😂😂😂
So clear and the whale is so cute thanks so much for this helpful tutorial
Thanks! ☺️
Ok so I literally just started crocheting yesterday and all I’ve made was a simple chain 😂 so I don’t think I should be trying this right now but I’ll give it a shot. Wish me luck that it doesn’t turn out in a horrible disaster! 😂😖
Good luck!
Knit Grit ty! It looks horrible though, so I’ll have to re-try 😂
@@dari.08308 did It work ?
Knit Grit! This is so cute. This is actually my first amigurumi project on crocheting and I'm thankful it was made by you. Love watching your videos, you're so great at crotheting:)
That is awesome! Thank you so much for your kind words! They brightened my day! ❤️
@@tararoseberry3598 oooo! That’s a good suggestion, thank you!
@@KnitGrit yeah I didn't think of it till you said paint lol. Great minds! Lol
How i wish i could show you my work after this tutorial. Thank you so much 🥰🥰 im so happy
Me sitting here not knowing how to crochet, but still enjoying this because interest like: 👁👄👁👍
The brain likes what it likes.
I LOVE your personality this was such an enjoyable tutorial and literally the first one I haven't failed at massively THANK YOU
You’re sweet :) How did it turn out!?
I made one of these while watching your video. Really cute.
Thank you for the video, because it meant so much to my dad in hospital 😊
Awwww, ♥️.
This was very helpful I created a few of these and some other amigurumi animals for all of my brothers for Christmas!
That’s awesome! 😁
Great video! You made this skill much more understandable. Perhaps your camera angle was a bit off but it hardly matters, nor does it take away from how well you present this info. Really enjoyed this!!
Thank you :) You're sweet!
@@KnitGrit awesome! Thanks and you too :) :) :)
It's my first time crocheting, and this tutorial was so fun! I accidentally made it too oval shaped, but it ended up looking like a baby chicken coming out of it's shell (I used yellow and white), which looks really cute!
Thanks , made the whale today.. It made my day during a not well period of time. Nicely came.
thank you so much for this i had never crocheted before but i knew i had some yarn and a needle laying around somewhere and i managed to make a funky little guy
Yay! I’m glad it helped! ❤️
