    That tremolo sounds like the caterpillar drive on the Russian sub in The Hunt for Red October

    Great video, as usual. You are absolutely right about speaker wires. In a hi fi amplifier, you want the cable resistance as low as possible to maintain the highest damping factor. In a guitar amp, the speaker wires are short, so the resistance is already very low. Add to that, guitar amps have an inherently low damping factor (due to having output transformers and comparatively low feedback, or none). Using very fat wires will have virtually no effect on the sound.

    I agree with you about it not being worth using super speaker cable for guitar amps. However, I did try some hi-fi type shielded cable as an instrument lead and the improvement was noticeable, mainly in the higher frequencies which were much clearer.

    The super reverb board could do with a good clean. I bet there’s a lot of DC leakage across it

    I learned a lot just by watching your channel..Mr Twin reverb "Does the amp behave the same with another Guitar"? I bet the speakers are out of phase or the Guitar may need the Grounds tested? Alex from "A Clockwork Orange" used Velocet( velocette) also I think? Have a great week.

    Special cables for hi fi set ups are nothing but snake oil 😉😉

    • @southsidejohnny5624
      @southsidejohnny5624 2 месяца назад

      Cough, cough. Er, as someone who spent years selling that snake oil I couldn’t possibly comment, except to say that years of daily demonstrations led me and many other colleagues to lay out our own hard cash for those interconnects and speaker cables. Maybe we were all drinking the Kool Aid but I never bought into all the mad tweaks some of the real hifi anoraks used to come up with, like sticking your cds in the freezer or reversing the direction of the internal fuses in the amplifier 🤪 We always said to customers though, if you can’t hear a difference then it’s not worth paying for, whether it’s cables or cd players, speakers etc.

      @ Ahh yes, one free unicorn with every set of gold plated, silver speaker cables ( must only be used with hi fi speakers with solid 24ct gold connectors, otherwise the warranty is invalid ) 😂😂😂

      @ Didn’t you know, everyone in Scotland has a free unicorn already, it’s our national animal. And doesn’t everyone have silver speaker cables with 24ct connectors? The horror…the horror.

    Glad to see your racecar didn't crap out on the final lap this time! What differentiates the various classes - engine size, or is it more complex than that? What is the top speed your car reaches on the straightaway?

    • @RiftAmps
      @RiftAmps  2 месяца назад

      In my regular race series the classes are seperated by power/weight ratio, my class is 145bhp/tonne excl. driver.
      At the Birkett Relay, classes are separated by engine size and tyre choice.
      VMAX on my car is 114.8mph, but that's limited by the length of the straight rather than the car which is geared for roughly 118mph.
