Join me on an expedition into the intersection of AI and gaming nostalgia. In this video, we unravel the saga of developing a machine learning program - an endeavor that bridges machine learning with the timeless allure of Pokémon Red.
I am in no way a machine learning expert - this was a side project that I wanted to explore. I'd love to hear your feedback in the comments below!

Awesome project intro, nice work! Love the UI showing the tiles being explored. Curious to see how it goes :)

Fantastic stuff! I remember watching Peter's original video and being inspired. I'm so glad somebody started a project!. Using coordinates to help with the issues of sprite data is great! Completely off topic, I am really digging the back grounds you used for your videos. Specifically the last one. Was it AI? And could you send me a link to the image as well? It would make a great desktop.

Thanks for the watch! Peters video was great! Yes, I used Dall E in chatgpt to generate all of the background images. I just published them on my Twitter, which is linked in the description if you want to download them!

You should train the AI on Gen 1 and see how well it can play Gen 2.
Also, has anyone tried getting it to read the text on screen? Parsing it should be easy since the letters are always aligned to the same grid, but I'd like to see if it can understand what's happening from it.
I don't see it ever getting past Lavender Town unless it either gets extremely lucky by using the right item at random or can figure out the puzzle.

I was thinking the same! And I might be able to pull the text on screen from the memory, or just use a simple OCR, but that would slow down the processing. And yes it would be very difficult for it to understand backtracking...can you imagine getting it to use surf to get to Pallet Town?

@@innoiso I'd like to see if it either figures out that it needs the Silph Scope for the ghost battle or if it just happens to try using a Pokedoll instead. I think this has a lot of potential for finding speedrunning techniques.

You dropped off after one video? That kinda sucks. I can’t blame you for prioritizing other content. But I was hoping that you continued this project. 🫤
